Vanessa Bryant reportedly settled a $5 million lawsuit filed against her by her own mother last year.
Bryant’s mother, Sofia Laine, filed the lawsuit to claim a percentage of her late son-in-law Kobe Bryant‘s multi-million estate.
In court documents, Laine, far right, claimed she wasn’t compensated for her duties as a nanny to Vanessa’s and Kobe’s children for nearly 20 years. Laine also claimed that Kobe promised her she would be taken care of for the rest of her life.
However, after Kobe’s tragic death in January 2020, Bryant kicked her mom out of the mansion Kobe bought for her, and moved her into a sparsely furnished one-bedroom apartment.

Laine told the court, Vanessa severed all ties with her and “reneged on all obligations and agreements” to give her the lifestyle that she was entitled to.
In addition to $5 million cash, Laine demanded the title to a Mercedes-Benz G Wagon and a new house.
Bryant was livid that her mother went to a Spanish language news station to air her grievances.
Bryant called the lawsuit “frivolous, disgraceful and unimaginably hurtful,” adding, “my husband never promised my mother anything, and he would be so disappointed in her behavior and lack of empathy.”
She continued:
“I have supported her for nearly 20 years, and [she] was never my or Kobe’s personal assistant, nor was she a nanny.
“In reality, she only occasionally babysat my older girls when they were toddlers. As of ten years ago, our kids were full-time students and athletes and I didn’t have another child until 2016.”
