The principal at LeBron James’ I Promise School in his native Akron, Ohio has resigned after slapping a student.
Brandi Davis resigned after an investigation into allegations she slapped an 11-year-old student in the face and he suffered a split lip.
The mother of the student released a statement to The Beacon Journal, claiming her son “had a busted lip and was bleeding.” The student was reportedly wearing a face mask when the school principal hit him.
The incident happened in September when the mother received a text message from Davis alerting her that she slapped the boy for using profanity.
The mother said she asked Davis why she put her hands on her son, to which Davis responded that she had “just reacted and slapped him.”
James opened his I Promise School to much fanfare in 2018. The NBA star tapped longtime educator Davis to be the school’s first principal.
The future NBA legend missed 83 days of school in the 4th grade, and it was his dream to give underachieving children a quality education.
240 academically challenged students were chosen from a random pool of 3rd and 4th graders with the lowest marks on aptitude tests.
Davis was an educator with the Akron Public School district for more than 20 years and was well respected throughout the community.
The student’s mother said that made the incident even more shocking.
Davis was not charged following the incident.
