Beyonce rushed this video into production to respond to Harry Belafonte’s criticism that she and her husband Jay Z turned their backs on their social responsibilities. Beyonce was alarmed by singer Harry Belafonte’s statements blasting the couple for not doing enough for minorities in Hollywood.
Within hours of Belafonte’s statements, Beyonce was posing for photo ops with with UN General Secretary Ban Ki Moon, the day before shooting her video.
Belafonte’s criticism is the latest in personal attacks on the Carter’s for flaunting their wealth on million-dollar artwork and automobiles while donating miniscule amounts of cash to charity.
The Sophie Muller-directed video is the anthem for World Humanitarian Day. Thanks to Thatgrapejuice.net for the video.
More from Sandrarose.com:
This video was already in the works, Beyonce don’t give a Damn about Harry. Bey & J just don’t broadcast every donation like some celebs for the publicity.
Let that women be great.

I don’t think he was referring to charity but more along the lines of bringing more black issues to the forefront. Ex. All the senseless shootings that are going on in NYC. While it’s NOT their responsibility to do so in so many ways it is. Like it or not the youth look up to these celeb’s and it would be nice if they got together and started speaking out on black on black crime. ALa “Self Destruction” “All in the same game” “Breanda’s got a baby” Most Queen Latifah songs in the 90’s. Jay has more “ownership” over what he puts out than these new rappers talking about nothing. If we keep saying “they don’t have to” they never will.
But in Beyonce’s defense she was promoting this stuff weeks before Harry’s comment. I hope this is the beginning of more to come.
I can just picture Bey & J tossing and turning, spending countless sleepless nights worrying about Harry’s statements… **sarcasm**
I don’t think anyone really knows exactly how the Carters spend their time and resources….and it’s really not anyone’s business
So we’re going to ignore the fact that this song came out months ago with a different video
If she were sincere, she would have donated a brand new track. Beyoncé can package this anyway she chooses, but this is pure self promotion.
I dont Much care for the CArter-Knowles but she looks Good here
She looks good!
Secondly, World Humanitarian Day was planned well in advance. So stop trying to reduce her efforts to this cause.
Why does it matter what song she used. The song is appropriate for the cause.
I can’t say this enough , I so miss MJ <<—- THIS MAN new how to give that is all I got. I aint got nothing for this video
MJ was a true humanitarian. Be
ce does not fool me at all
Folks really need to wake up !!

And the words of the song say enough
I am just saying
@therapist1911
So you think Beyonce and Diane Warren offered this song to the UN, or the UN approached the publishing company about using the song? I’m sorry but Bey, does no heavy lifting when it comes to world issues. Other than writing a cheque, or showing up at some school with her name on it in Brooklyn, she doesn’t get involved in anything. And after watching her interview with Anderson Cooper about World Humanitarian Day, I’ve accepted that she’s kind of dumb. She couldn’t even articulate why she supported WHD properly. I was embarrassed for her.
She looks good
Not much else I can say about this. I never thought the song had a humanitarianism theme but I guess
yeah yeah yeah the same ole defense…
“she look good”
“she got money”
Like that’s all that counts….
She couldn’t even articulate why she supported WHD properly. I was embarrassed for her. by Nicola …i missed it but I know you aint lying. Beyonce remind me of a girl I went to school with. She was beautiful, had long curly hair, dressed nice but a couple times the teacher made us go around the room and read out loud and she couldnt read. The teacher had to help her pronounce words and I was so embarrased for her. She was ” too perfect” to have that problem. Anywhoo beyonce gon win the humanitarian award next yr lol.
Well personally I’d like to know which charitable endeavors you all are participating in.
I work with mentally challenged individuals through Opportunity Village once a week for four hours. I also mentor inner city youth and donate frequently to Safe Nest, which assists victims of domestic violence. I don’t have much but I do what I can.
The new generation of blacks forgot the struggle and in the end we will revert back to the dumb ass people they said we were. We do not focus on education like we use to and we do not stick together. Please keep up with the struggle. Education is key. traveling is key. giving back is key……i am proud of all my brothers and sisters…..i congratulate not hate.
So no one is going to say ANYTHING about those gaudy door knocker earrings she has on????
@likeCaeser…
for you!!! Congratulations on your charity work, do you want a cookie? I worked with homeless families for years, I’ve cooked for the poor, open my wallet whenever I can, give time where I have it and pray a lot. Others on here have done the same and more. Not being impressed with a celebrity’s charitable endeavors does not take away from what a person may or may not be doing to help out at home. I personally don’t care what she gives or doesn’t give because it’s her money, I just don’t like the song and don’t understand the purpose of using it for WHD. Other’s feel the same
@Fe I thought Sandra was playing with photoshop again
I would hope no one would make earrings that ugly and would hope even more that no one would buy them
Who gives a flying f,
However she did it don’t matter, point is she did something
If u don’t like it do better. Somebody gone always have something to complain about.
I congratulate her efforts rather than putting her down. I agree that it seems as if a lot of celebrities are not taking a stand on issues that effect our lives on a daily basis; however, when a person does do soimething we fuss about it. I do not really know of any other celebrity speaking on issues unless it’s a Presidential Election year, autism, HIV, and the likes, or national tragedies, such as the Trayvon Martin murder. To be honest, most of those celebrities excludes entertainers. For example, Holly Robinson-Peete and Tisha Campbell-Martin.
I overstand what Harry was referring to. His comment wasn’t about donating money to charities, but their voices to issues concerning the community.
I don’t follow these two, so I don’t know exactly what they stand or don’t stand for, but they are NOT going to do anything that will affect their bottom line (their money or possibly “offending” their fan base). If they become too involved with issues regarding our community, it may be a turn off to their other fans, if you know what I mean. I’m not saying they are right/wrong.
My issue with Harry is that if he felt that way, it would’ve been nice for him to go to them to discuss it instead of doing it publicly.
If someone isn’t doing something from their heart, but through pressure, it’s fruitless. This is just my take on it. I could be wrong.
Harry was not a boy scout in his days so he’s the last person to throw shade on others. I hate when ex-celebrities want to comment on what current celebs are doing. I am not a Bey fan and this song like so many of her others are a recycled use of beats and lyrics. Instead of questioning Beyonce he should question companies that utilize celebrities’ work that has no correlation to their organization or the project their use them for. Harry say congrats cause you have just alloted the stans another reason to fill her coifers

Am I the only one that saw the commerical for Iyanla Vanzant’s new show and guess who is going to be one of her special guest getting help fixing their life….wait for it wait for it EVELYN! Show starts next month their marriage is over before anyone realized it started and he is about to loose everything now that really is a man down for his woman…he always said he was with her for her money. Guess he knew its more money in rats than cheese
I see everyone’s points. I agree with people who are saying it’s her and her husbands money and they can do what they want with it. And on the other hand, I agree with those who say that with the kind of clout they have, they should feel more obligated to help out in ways that benefit others more than themselves.
Now, how I feel is this in regards to the two. I don’t care for them donating money. I would prefer they invest their times and their voices which to me is much more valued currency. It just seems like they are showing up to these events, having their photos taken, and then it is assumed that they are doing something. I want to see them be hands on, talking about the real issues. Instead of donating a check, go to these regions and hand out food, talk to these people whoever they are and for whatever cause they are supporting. Sean Penn could have just donated money too to Haiti after the earthquake, but the man pitched a tent and lived among the people, that was his support. It might seem crazy, but it’s stuff like that I call being charitable.
Heal the world make it better place…. for you and for me and the enitre human race
there are people dying
if u care enough for the living … make a better place for u and for me
make a better place for u and for me,, u and for me
^^^^ a person that cared !!!! He put people before him ! A true example of Humanitarian MJ <<—
I agree with Mr. Belafonte, but I think he gives Beyonce and her husband too much credit…that they actually comprehend activism. Just see the response her team put out in response to his comments; they listed Beyonce’s charitable donations which wasn’t what he was referring to in his statement.
Am i the only person who hasn’t heard this song?
I like the song and her dress. Harry Belafonte needs to be quiet.
World Humanitarian Day….
Is she not providing her name, time, and etc to a cause that could impact us all? HUMAN—do something good for one HUMAN.
If you listened to the lyrics of the song and can’t see how it correlates to this cause then you probably shouldn’t be pointing the “dumb” finger at Beyonce. save the embarassement for yourself.
@Therapist.. so everyone who isn’t captivated by the song or is unable to see why the song was selected is dumb? Really? Honestly, I understand the premise behind the song, I do. But to me it’s more selfish than it is about giving, not to mention the fact that Diane Warren has written better. Yes, everyone wants to leave their mark on the world but when you give and do for others it’s not supposed to be for the purpose of making yourself feel better, or for leaving a legacy behind. You’re supposed to do it because you want to, because you can, because someone else will benefit from it. Not turn it around for your own vanity and selfish reasons. I’ve never liked the song, not even when it came out. It’s boring, it’s nothing special, it doesn’t have that pull that a good ballad should have and a theme for selfless giving it definitely is not. Yes Bey and her husband take a lot of unfair criticism for not doing all that people feel that they should be doing with the community. She nor he are black people’s savior BUT I can see how people can say that they are irresponsible in the sense that Jay flaunts his wealth to the very people who will likely never be able to obtain his wealth but are impressionable enough to try by any means neccesary. I have that problem with several entertainers because they teach the youth and the weak minded that getting rich is the only thing worth striving for. Bey is more level headed than her husband, she doesn’t really flaunt what she has and I like that about her but at the same time she has a voice that could be strong and instead is used in a way that does very little towards empowering and encouragement. It is what it is though. Neither are role models nor should they be, however giving this lackluster song to a great cause and creating a new, even more boring video to accompany it doesn’t help the case against her in any way
Why bring more Black issues to the forefront when Black folks dont even support you? Were the only ones constantly picking at this woman. Same happened with Whitney back in the day. No Im not comparing Bey to Nip, cuzz there is none. Whitney slays this heffa in every which way including natural beauty. However its never enough. Whitney wasnt Black enough so she was dragged through the mud. Booed at the Black awards shows. She had to constantly and continually try to prove herself to the Black community. Then when things started to surface, once folks realized that Whitney wasnt much different than many of our Uncles and Aunts who struggle with certain things including addiction…Then she was too damn Black. She was a joke, a punchline. You cant fuc*in win with Black folks, so why even try?
According to Sandra Rose Obama does nothing for the Black community, yet after years of criticism and constant mud slinging she says hes the better choice than Romney? WTF man?
Spike Lee hates Tyler Perry, yet his ol Jiminy Cricket lookin ass aint did nerry a thing for Black Hollywood, nor Black actors in how long? Right, hes too occupied with his endeavors with the NY Knicks right. Does he even own stake in the team? I mean at least Jack Nicholson continues to work as he rides the Lakeshow jock strap. #IJS
Oprah is so rich she needs to do this she needs to do that…We cant just be happy with what she has done
Cuzz honestly, she aint obligated to do sh*t…And of course no good deed goes unpunished…We all know the drama surrounding her school for girls, but how many of us would have even known about the school but for the drama? Yeah.
Wishy washy. Ungrateful. Who remembers the Mother who acted a damn fool at a toy giveaway? Black woman. Sandra posted the video. Her son didnt get a bike, so she nutted up. How despicable. Yet it seems very typical. We as a people are too damn hard to please, and furthermore, would we have even heard about the toy giveaway but for some clown acting a fool? Yeah, see…
Who knows what Beyonce has done? We sure dont, this is only news because Harry Belafonte spoke out recently, right? I guess he found time from chasing after White women (allegedly) with his road dawg Bill Cosby to concern himself with whats going on in the world huh? How many illegitimate ‘mulato’ adults are running around who had no idea that Mr Taliman was their daddy (allegedly) We all saw Mr Black America Bill Cosby get put on blast (Autumn Jackson anyone?). Who would have thunk Mr straight n Narrow had a snake in his wood shed? Anyway…
How many of us went to see Sparkle? Yeah. Too busy watching The Expendables? Yeah. Sparkle is too this, its not that, Derek Luke is too Black.lol. Head over to the IMDB message board on Sparkle. Some woman feels Derek Luke is too Black to play the character originated by the Oh so Light Skint P.M. Thomas…Yeah…Black folks
Evenso,,,I love my people, and pray for our future…
I didn’t have this in mind for a video. I just wished celebrities showed more of their humanitarian side than the cars they drove…
*than the cars they drive
i saw that interview with anderson cooper. beyonce seems very nervous speaking on complex issues…
that’s all i got
what profit a man to gain he world and lose his soul…

top of the morning folks
First, I thought she looked damn good. I thought she sounded good also.
I dont think this had anything to with Harry B’s statement. HB needs to realize that times are different. And even if Beyonce was to talk about issues effecting our community, blacks folks will be dissecting her every word and saying how dumb she sounds….smh.
Regardless of what song was used and regardless of your like/dislike for Beyonce, this was still nice to see.
And if Beyonce used another song, wouldn’t ppl say she’s doing it for money or publicity??? Ppl have formed an opinion about this woman, and aint nuttin she could to change that.
Ohh morning folks…..

Anybody see the Rihanna interview on Oprah Oprah asked all the right questions
______________________________
I watched it…
The only part that I thought that was kind of suspect…was the part where Rih Rih gave her mother the house…her mother was more concerned with Oprah than the damn house…other than that I really enjoyed the interview
@ Tyler Perry’s BRENDEN:Based On The Novel “Push” By Sapphire… I agree with your post 100%. The majority of people are never satisfied.
I also noticed how she kinda brushed off when Oprah asked if she grew up in a house with domestic violence. She said yes really quick and moved on. She didn’t elaborate on that. As for the house, I’m sure she was just a fan of Oprah. I forgot Rihanna was so young. I understand her a lil bit more now. I would be a rebel too if I were thrown in the lions den @ 16. Also, peeped her throwing shade at her management/label
Good Morning all
I hope auntie posts the entire Rihanna interview…Some of us are too cheap to pay for extended cable to only watch 2 of the channels (cable companies stay making bank yo)….
@miss I didn’t watch it cause I refuse to watch anything Oprah puts out. I’m waiting for someone to post the interview so I can read it though
@ Ms. Everything not really an Oprah fan myself but she sure knows how to do an interview.
welp back to watching Arachnophobia til auntie posts something new.
@ cheeks you’re correct. If I didn’t have kids I wouldn’t have cable but I need nickjr, sprout and vh1

Morning everyone!
@Miss yes she does but my pride is too strong to give up my boycott just yet
 @ All
I got nothing for the Carter’s same shyt different day. U cant make folks give back or give a phuck. Their lil world will crumble just like the rest of this bs that we are being fed
Mr. Belafonte was speaking out of turn anyway. Clearly he doesn’t know them or he would know about their many good deeds. I doubt she’s sweating it.
I missed it
@Sandra you gonna post an in case you missed it on the Rihanna interview??
Karruche tweeted LOL at folks went in on that.
What did she tweet Zoe?

I have a couple extra channels…Gotta have Lifetime for my precious Project Runway and VH1 for their tomfoolary but that is where I draw the line. I wish cable companies gave the option to pay like $5 extra per premium channel…that way I wouldn’t have to wait until the dvds came out for the whole season of True Blood and Dexter….lol
still won’t understand why folks would want Chris and Rhianna back together…they’re too toxic for each other

“She was too perfect to have that problem…”? Really? She was too perfect for/to WHO? How? Was that how YOU perceived her? And if so, THAT right there is where the PROBLEM begins. Ppl have a perception of how and who someone ELSE should be for them. Just b/c she was “too perfect” (for you, I’m assuming – and you know what they say abt ppl who assume) doesn’t mean that she couldn’t have a learning disability. Did she ever say she was “too perfect”? I wonder what made her “too perfect” to NOT have a problem, b/c I’ve seen some “beautiful nightmares” in my time.

NAIJA- They view them two just like Usher and Chili. No one will ever be good enough for the other. With or without the DV case, I don’t think these two would have been together today.
@LOVEZOE I agree with you…it was young puppy love…most likely they would’ve broke up with since they were forced to break up there’s this romanticizing of their ship…but they were physical with each other and that ish is never good…they just need to let it be and leave his girlfriend be…sheesh
@Love I don’t think they would be together either. I had a boyfriend when I was younger, loved him to death, used to cry and scream when we broke up and we used to break up and get back together all the time. Neither one of us was good for the other one until finally it was really over and there was no going back. And now? I got love for him but I’m glad we’re not together even though he’s a great guy and great father to his kids. I think that would have happened with those two if they’d been given the chance to end it on their terms but

Rihanna and have been telling people (cough cough Sandra) that people cannot be mad at the girl as she has been focusing on career, career, career since she was 16. The girl just wants to live and whats the point of acquiring 60+mil if you gonna live for others. Let’s say thank god she is expressing her demotions rather than allowng them to build and then eventually explode. Give Rih a couple of years and she will be just fine, cough Sandra

Agreed with you guys. I dont want to see them back together as personally I think they are toxic for each other but I think it is something that everyone has to allow them to do. You have 2 people that broke up to save their careers after he beat the crap out of her. DV is like drugs, the person is not going to get help until they are ready to and couple with the fact that she never really got closure on the relationship, they gonna keep pinning away for each other until they give it another. I believe that if they do get together they will realize that its time to move on. People grow up and move on but right now those two are just holding onto what if and for some people you need those what ifs to progress onto the best thing for them
WOW she did an amazing job singing that song
