Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins has died after being hit by a dump truck on a highway early Saturday morning in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Haskins, 24, was in South Florida training with Steelers players for the 2022 NFL season, according to Yahoo! Sports.
According to MSN News, Haskins was “attempting” to walk cross Interstate 595 around 6:37 a.m. when he “collided with an oncoming dump truck,” Florida Highway Patrol said in an accident report. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin issued a statement confirming Haskins’ death. He called the young player, “One of our hardest workers, both on the field and in our community.”
Charges were dropped against Haskins’ wife, Kalabrya Gondrezick-Haskins who knocked his tooth out during a domestic violence incident in July 2021.

The dispute occurred because Kalabrya was allegedly upset that he spent too much time with his boys at a nightclub.
Friends say Haskins fell into a deep depression after the incident.
The former Ohio State standout was a first round NFL draft pick in 2019 and served as the Steelers’ No. 3 quarterback in 2021.
Haskins threw for 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 13 starts for the team.
Haskins would have turned 25 on May 3.
