Major drug store retailers are limiting purchases of Plan B “morning after” pills to just 3 purchases per person.
A spokesperson for CVS told The Wall Street Journal that Plan B emergency contraceptive pills are temporarily limited to three purchases.
CVS said it had ample supply of the pills available but wanted to ensure “equitable access and consistent supply.” Demand for the pills surged after the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last week.
Walgreens told the WSJ it is not limiting purchases of the pills.
Rite Aid told ABC News it limited the purchases of the birth control pills to three after seeing a spike in demand in stores.
Big-box chain stores such as Costco and Walmart are also limiting purchases of Plan B.
Megan Thee Stallion advised sexually active women to buy Plan B pills if abortions are illegal in their states.
In her hit song “Plan B,” rapper Megan Thee Stallion raps about popping Plan B pills like M&Ms after unprotected sex.
“Poppin’ Plan B’s ’cause I ain’t plan to be stuck with ya,” she raps.
Experts say the reversal of Roe v. Wade disproportionately affects Black women and Latinas who are more likely to use abortion as a form of birth control.
Black women in Mississippi accounted for 74% of abortions in 2019, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.
