Rapper Future Hendrix responded to the criticism after he legally changed his government name from “Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn” to “Nayvadius Cash”.
Future, 38, confirmed the name change after the story went viral on Wednesday.
In a since-deleted social media post, Future reminded his followers that he originally went by “Nayvadius Cash” when he first started out as an aspiring rapper.
Friends say the prolific breeder, who was born and raised in Atlanta, didn’t know his father, and he didn’t want the man’s last name.
It isn’t clear how his name change will affect his children who share his former surname.
The name change comes days after Future dished out $16.3 million on a luxury Miami waterfront mansion on star-studded Allison Island.
Allison Island is a private, 35-acre island in Biscayne Bay near Star Island – home to celebrities like hip-hop mogul Sean Combs.
According to Forbes, the seven bedroom, 8.5 bathroom ultra contemporary mansion was built in 2020 and boasts staff quarters, a detached guest house, pool, cabana and a three-car garage. It also has 75 feet of water frontage.
Future purchased the 8,897-square-foot mansion at an 18% discount according to Forbes.
Future joins an exodus of rappers, including Gucci Mane, who fled Atlanta for the safety of wealthy enclaves in South Florida. The private islands there have armed security and no one can access the islands without the authorization of homeowners.
The sale was handled by Dina Goldentayer with Douglas Elliman. Real estate agent Jordan Karp represented Future.
