Pressure is mounting on Washington DC police to name the homeowner who shot and killed a 13-year-old Black boy who was breaking into cars on his street.
According to reports, the homeowner who fatally shot Karon Blake early Saturday is Black.
Blake was killed around 3:56 a.m. after the homeowner in a residence on the 1000 block of Quincy Street, heard someone breaking into vehicles.
The unidentified man went outside with his registered handgun and confronted the teenager.
During the confrontation, the man produced his weapon and shot Blake.
Cops found the homeowner performing CPR on the teen, who was pronounced dead at an area hospital. Police said Blake was a student at nearby Brookland Middle School, according to FOX 5 News. He had been left back twice due to truancy and poor grades. At age 13, he was still in the 6th grade.
Police discovered a stolen car nearby that the juvenile was driving before the shooting.
Investigators believe two other juveniles were Blake’s accomplices. According to a neighbor in the area, the two boys tried leaving the scene in a stolen vehicle, before bailing out in an alleyway and fleeing on foot.
The Metropolitan Police declined to arrest the homeowner, but the District Attorney’s Office is considering pressing charges.
The news media is portraying the young car thief as an innocent victim. WUSA9 News anchor Delia Gonçalves called Blake’s death a “devastating loss.”
Karon Blake, a missing child at 11, was a student at Brookland Middle – “…a Brookland student tragically lost their life to gun violence in the early morning of January 7. Let us join in sending love and support to their family as they grieve this devastating loss.” @wusa9 pic.twitter.com/ExTvR5tEjJ

D.C. Council member Christina Henderson tweeted, “Property is not greater than life. Karon should be alive today.” Ward 5 Council member Zachary Parker said, “He was a son, brother, friend, and student who should still be here. I am deeply saddened and outraged by Karon’s killing. No car or material possession is worth a life — under any circumstances.”
Liberals on Twitter are calling for police to release the name of the homeowner who shot Blake during the commission of a felony.
So I know I’ve been away for a bit. For those of you who didn’t hear already, a 13 year old Black child was murdered by a neighborhood vigilante in NE Washington DC. His name was Karon Blake. I don’t give a shit what he was accused of doing. You don’t get to kill people. Period.

The person who killed Karon Blake shot him multiple times. There is no indication Karon was armed.
Descriptors like "homeowner" function only to make us sympathize with the shooter, and are irrelevant and inappropriate.

The media & cops working to justify the murder of a 13 year old because he allegedly broke into a car is absurd. Someone breaking into a car is not grounds for killing them. Cars can be replaced. Kids can’t. Who was the killer? Why was he not arrested? Do some journalism.
