A Chicago man was arrested on a murder warrant in Indiana after he was shot by a 3-year-old child, according to Fox 32 News.
Treyshawn Smith, 24, was reportedly arrested this week after he went to a hospital for treatment of a wound he suffered when a 3-year-old shot him.
Smith and a woman, who was also shot, drove to a Lafayette, Indiana, hospital Thursday evening.
Emergency room staff notified police after Smith said they were both shot by a toddler. Hospital workers didn’t believe his story.
Police were dispatched to the hospital, where they arrested Smith on an outstanding murder warrant out of Cook County.
The shooting incident happened at an apartment complex on Mount Court in Lafayette, according to ABC News.
“It was determined that a three-year-old child at that location accessed a gun and fired one round striking two people,” Lt. Justin Hartman of the Lafayette Police Department confirmed.
The female shooting victim wasn’t charged.
Lafayette police said the Department of Child Services was notified of Thursday’s incident, but the child was not taken into protective custody.
