A Fulton County, Georgia judge denied bond for rapper Young Thug for the fourth time. Young Thug, born Jeffery Williams, was in court for his 4th bond hearing on Friday (July 21).
He has been jailed since May of 2022 on multiple RICO charges linking his YSL record label to “criminal street gang” activity in Atlanta.
Young Thug’s attorney, Brian Steele, pleaded with Judge Ural Glanville to release Young Thug due to his ongoing health concerns. Steele claimed the rapper is “languishing” in jail due to alleged nutritional deficiencies and poor living conditions.
“This lifestyle has caused physical harm to Mr. Williams,” Steele said. He noted that his client was hospitalized twice within 24 hours in May for kidney problems.
“Mr. Williams has seen no sunlight since May 9, 2022 and the only fresh air that he receives is during the time that the doors are open on the transport to and from the Courthouse,” a motion filed in May reads. The motion also said Young Thug’s exercise is “limited in the small jail cell.”
Observers noted that Young Thug looked healthy in court on Friday. It appears that his basic nutritional needs are being met in jail.
Judge Glanville reiterated that Young Thug is a risk and a menace to society, due to past allegations that the rapper intimidated witnesses.
Another defendant in the YSL RICO trial, Yak Gotti, was also denied bond today.
