Tory Lanez’s new home for the next few months is North Kern State Prison in Delano, California. The disgraced hip-hop star was transferred to the facility after he was denied bail in a Los Angeles courtroom on Sept. 14. The prison is located about 145 miles north of Los Angeles.
In December, Tory was convicted of shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion in both feet outside a party in Hollywood Hills in 2020.
North Kern State Prison is a reception center where inmates serve 2 to 3 months while staff process them and assess their medical and mental health needs before being reassigned to their new prison homes.
Photos show the sprawling prison compound which is surrounded by a tall fence topped by barbed wire. Tory – real name Daystar Peterson – will have the opportunity to apply for a job to help pass the time.
The prison opened in April 1993 and has a population of 4,000 inmates. While at North Kern, inmates can participate in educational programs.
A majority of the prison guards and support staff are immigrants. Delano was once a rural city with a large migrant farm worker population. But the construction of North Kern State Prison and Kern Valley State Prison, located one mile away, has helped the small city grow.
Several violent incidents have taken place inside the medium-security facility in recent years. 2 inmates were found dead in their cells and guards were attacked, according to reports.
Ceasar McDowell, the CEO of Unite the People, tells TMZ that Tory still has hope he will be released on bond because it’s “all in God’s plan.”
Tory’s release date is in 2033 when he will be 41 years old.
