Drake is quitting music for a year after releasing his latest album, For All The Dogs, on Friday, Oct. 6.

According to TMZ, the Canadian rapper made the surprise announcement Friday morning on his SiriusXM show “Table for One.”

Drake, 36, told listeners he is taking time off after suffering from gastrointestinal issues for years.

“I need to focus on my health, first and foremost,” he said. “I’ve been having the craziest problems for years with my stomach.”

“I’ma lock the door on the studio for a little bit. Maybe a year or something … maybe a little longer,” he said.

Drake didn’t provide any symptoms, but he may be suffering from a stomach ulcer or gastritis, which sometimes takes a year to heal.

Drake’s announcement shocked his fans, who anxiously awaited his latest album release this morning, Oct. 6.

Drake dropped the music video for his song “8AM In Charlotte.” The video features his son, Adonis, who explains the inspiration behind his cover art for his father’s album.

Not everyone was pleased with the new album. One reviewer on a hip hop manosphere board wrote, “For All The Dogs sucks and will be, not only Drake’s worst album, but THE worst album of 2023 based all off the hype and expectation… It literally sounds EXACTLY like “Views”… That album he already dropped in 2016. BLATANT Rip-Off.”
