Former NBA guard Nate Robinson says he doesn’t have long to live if he doesn’t get a new kidney soon.
Robinson, 39, told the Daily Mail Sports that he is in kidney failure and he has been looking for a new kidney for the past four years.
“I know that I don’t have long if I can’t get a kidney,” he said. “I know I’m not going to have long to live. So I just want to make the best of it as much as I can.”
The former NY Knicks guard is on a dialysis machine three times a week, which he said is “helping my longevity and my life”.
According to the National Institutes of Health, nearly 800,000 people in America are living with End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD). The number is expected to grow.
“It’s serious, can’t miss a day. I go in for four hours, three days a week, four hours a day. And they clean my blood to get my toxins out. And they help me out a lot because that’s how I’m living,” Robinson said. “So I’m just enjoying the times where I do feel healthy. I try to get out there with my kids, see my family and play basketball, do the things that I love.”
Robinson is a three-time NBA Slam Dunk contest winner and was knocked out by Jake Paul in a boxing match.
