Actor Jussie Smollett debuted his new film “The Lost Holliday” at a packed Atlanta screening on Monday, Sept. 23. The film was directed, produced and written by Smollett. Mona Scott-Young is executive producer.
“The Lost Holliday” also stars Vivica A. Fox, Cynthia Bailey, Jabari Redd and more.

Vivica A. Fox (center) stars as Cassandra Marshall, who arrives in Los Angeles to plan the funeral of her estranged son, Damien Holliday (Jabari Redd). Upon her arrival, Cassandra discovers that the funeral arrangements are already being handled by her son’s husband, Jason Holliday (Jussie Smollett) — a man and a marriage she knew nothing about.
Through Jason, their adopted daughter Arielle (Londyn Carter), Jason’s sister Cheyenne (Brittany Hall), and best friend Duck (Marquise Vilsón), Cassandra learns more about her son in death than she ever did in his life.
“The Lost Holliday” explores themes of family dynamics, friendship, fatherhood, adoption, mother-son and father-daughter relationships, grief, and the bonds of love that transcend time, generational trauma, and even death. The film also celebrates LGBTQIA+ representation and the importance of acceptance, shining a light on the adversity and triumphs of a same-gender-loving couple navigating family dissension and societal presumptions.
“The Lost Holliday is happening more and more, and it gives people hope,” said the movie’s producer Tressa Smallwood. “There are so many children who need to be adopted, and we’re opening up a new door by saying it’s okay—and it’s a good thing.”
Scott-Young added: “I also think the subtext of this movie is all about family. Not just the family that you’re born into, the family that you adopt, the family that you make, the people that you meet, that you connect with.”
