Nelly recently celebrated his life partner Ashanti’s 44th birthday on Ashanti Island.
“In a video on his Instagram, Nelly wrote:
“Happy Bday To the most beautiful woman in the world.. Putting Smiles on your face is something i wake up thinking about and the thing I love doing the most… grateful to have someone who loves and appreciate me as much as I do them … love you mama.”
On July 18, 2024, they welcomed their first child.
The “Hot in Herre” rapper is a Grammy Award-winning hip-hop artist who gained fame with his 2000 album Country Grammar, which sold over 8 million copies.
Nelly (real name Cornell Haynes Jr) was born on November 2, 1974, in Austin, Texas. His parents divorced when he was 7. As a teenager, Nelly moved with his mother St. Louis, Missouri.
While in high school, Nelly met his lifelong friends, Ali, Murphy Lee, Kyjuan and Slo Down. Together with Nelly’s half brother, City Spud, they formed the rap group St. Lunatics.
The group enjoyed moderate local success with their single “Gimme What Ya Got” (1996). But they failed to secure a major label deal and Nelly went solo.
In 1999, Nelly was signed to Universal Music Group. His debut single, “Country Grammar (Hot Sh*t)”, was a huge success, peaking at number 7 on both the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
