Rapper T.I. Harris and his wife, Xscape singer Tameka “Tiny” Harris received backlash for letting their youngest daughter, Heiress, sing her mom’s hit song, “Just Kicking It”, at the 2025 BET Awards on June 9 in Los Angeles.

“Just Kicking It” is the first single from R&B group Xscape’s 1993 debut album, Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha. The grown-up song contains the lyrics:

Every man wants a woman
Where him and her can just go hang
Huh, just the two of them alone
Kick back, doin’ their own thang

And every man wants a woman
That can always keep him in the mood
And I’m that kind of girl
So, this is what I tell my dude.

Heiress, who was nominated for the YoungStars Award, sang the song like a pro. But fans say the lyrics are too mature for a 9-year-old child.

One fan wrote on X: “Heiress has a beautiful voice though but these lyrics are hella inappropriate.”

Another person wrote: “A whole father allowing his daughter to sing this inappropriate song.”

Heiress began singing as a toddler before she transitioned into acting.

After her performance at the BET Experience, Heiress walked the red carpet with her parents. She took credit for their coordinated outfits.

Heiress said she designed her powder blue and cream tuxedo. T.I. said Heiress wanted a “fancy tuxedo for a girl.” He added, “I decided to follow suit. I decided to go deconstructed, done and undone, you know?”

Tiny said she chose a cream pantsuit to match T.I. and Heiress.
