Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement announcement broke the Internet – just in time for the start of the NFL season.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end proposed to the pop star 2 weeks ago, according to his father Ed Kelce.
On Tuesday, Taylor announced she was engaged to her boyfriend of two years.
In her Instagram post, the couple embraced in an enchanted garden under a rose archway. The lush setting looked like a page out of a fairytale book.
They were surrounded by 2,000 roses, hydrangeas, delphinium and pink lilies. The flowers cost up to $38,000 according to PEOPLE.
Forbes spoke to an appraiser who suggests Taylor’s diamond engagement ring is modest by celebrity standards. Gemologist appraiser Deborah Villepigue says the ring is between 10 and 15 carats and is worth an estimated $650,000.
Villepigue said the ring is possibly 13 carats – Taylor’s favorite number. Fans noted her announcement came on August 26 (13+13), and 13 days after her appearance on Kelce’s podcast “New Heights,” on Aug. 13.
The ring, which appears to be antique, was designed by Kindred Lubeck, operator of Artifex Fine Jewelry in New York City. The stone has a clarity of VVS1 or better. It is seated in a yellow gold vintage setting surrounded by gold filagree details.
Travis Kelce’s father, Ed Kelce, told Cleveland ABC affiliate WEWS, they got engaged two weeks ago.
“They were about to go out to dinner and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine,'” Ed said. “They got out there and that’s when he asked her and it was beautiful. They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great.”
Ed Kelce also told WEWS that he knew of his son’s plan to pop the question to Taylor months ago. He said he thought Travis might ask Taylor last year, during the NFL season.
Ed said Travis and Taylor, both 35, are “just crazy about each other.”
An insider told a reporter there is no truth to the rumor that Taylor is pregnant with her first child.
Chiefs fans on a manosphere board celebrated the news.
