A 42-year-old Indiana man who served 8 years of a 20-year sentence for killing a 6-year-old boy in Kentucky was arrested in Florida just days after he walked free from prison.

Ronald Exantus was released from a Kentucky prison last week after serving just 8 years of his 20-year sentence for killing Logan Tipton in Lexington in 2015.

On the night of December 7, 2015, Exantus entered an unlocked residence, took a butcher knife from the kitchen and fatally stabbed Logan while he slept in his bed.

Exantus also stabbed two of the boy’s sisters and their father. They survived their wounds.

He was acquitted of capital murder by reason of insanity. But the jury convicted him on two counts of second-degree assault and one count of fourth-degree assault for attacking the family. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Exantus was denied parole every time he appeared before the parole board in Kentucky.

But a 2012 Kentucky state law required the board to release him early for good behavior.

The news infuriated residents who made death threats against the board members.

Logan’s still-grieving father vowed to kill Exantus on sight.

Exantus’ former attorney, Bridget Hofler, who no longer represents him, said he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and worked hard to better himself while incarcerated.

“If anybody deserved to get out early, it was Ron,” Hofler told WKYT before he was arrested again.

After leaving prison in Kentucky last week, Exantus moved to Florida – a red state notorious for not coddling violent criminals.

He was arrested near an elementary school on Thursday in Marion County, Florida.

Exantus was charged with violating his parole by not registering as a convicted felon within 48 hours of his arrival in The Sunshine State. He was in Florida for 3 days, according to police.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis expressed his outrage on X (Twitter), saying he was shocked that Exantus “was let out of prison in Kentucky after serving a mere fraction of his sentence for murdering a six year old kid.”

The White House is currently looking into Kentucky’s laws that allow the criminally insane to walk free, according to Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

“I can confirm the White House is looking into this. It’s wholly unacceptable for a child killer to walk free after just several years in prison,” Leavitt posted on X.
