Toni Braxton stars in a new Lifetime movie inspired by her chart-topping hit song “He Wasn’t Man Enough.” The song earned Toni her fourth Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance in 2000.

Now the R&B legend trades heartbreak for empowerment in her new leading role in the Lifetime movie, “He Wasn’t Man Enough.”

Toni plays Mel Montgomery, a successful writer who learns her boyfriend Richard (Thomas Cadrot) is engaged to her former college friend Monica (Essence Atkins, pictured right).

The two women reconnect and team up with Mel’s best friend Candy (Yvette Nicole Brown, pictured center), turning a painful betrayal into an unexpected journey of friendship and healing.

In 2026, Braxton will reunite with Essence Atkins and “A Different World” alum Cree Summer for the second film in her Lifetime Network partnership.

Taking its title from Braxton’s 1993 mega-hit “Breathe Again,” her next film follows three women who meet as contestants on a reality show and deal with the scrutiny that comes with being on a national dating series.

In real life, Toni is happily married to record label owner Brian Williams, a.k.a. Birdman.

“We’ve been friends for over 25 years. He used to go to all my shows,” she told PEOPLE. “He was there for my baby shower, that kind of thing,” she said, adding that he “never crossed the line” until she let him.

On the music side, New Edition is headlining a tour with Toni Braxton and Boyz II Men in 2026.

“He Wasn’t Man Enough” premieres on November 22, 2025. Watch the trailer below.
