Chris Paul stunned NBA fans when he posted an Instagram story around 3 a.m. ET Wednesday announcing that he had just been fired by the Los Angeles Clippers.
The NBA legend told fans he was being sent home to Los Angeles from Atlanta, where the Clippers play the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.
“Just found out I’m being sent home,” he wrote in his Instagram stories, along with a peace sign emoji.
Stunning development with the Clippers sending franchise legend Chris Paul home tonight. Obviously he’s been in and out of Tyronn Lue’s rotation this year. But sending any player home, let alone a player of Paul’s stature in the league and with the franchise, is quite a move. pic.twitter.com/qVncMQq3st

Chris signed a one-year deal with the Clippers for $3,634,153 in July. He previously played six seasons for the franchise from 2011-2017.
Chris was drafted by the New Orleans Hornets in 2005. He started 1,314 of 1,354 career games for 8 NBA teams. He played all 82 games last season for the San Antonio Spurs.

Chris, nicknamed “CP3″, is a 12-time All Star, 2-time Olympic gold medalist, and is 2nd all-time in assists and steals.
The Clippers lost 14 of their last 16 games with Chris as playmaker. He averaged just 2.9 points in 16 games this season.
The 40-year-old, 6’0” point guard could sign with the Los Angeles Lakers on January 19. But the Lakers already have a 40-year-old star on the roster.

Chris married his college sweetheart, Jada Crawley, in 2011. They have 2 children, son Chris Paul II, 16, and 13-year-old daughter Camryn.
Chris celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends, including former Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade. He captioned the photo slide “FAMILY!!”
