Police in Zanzibar, Tanzania concluded their investigation into Miami influencer Ashlee Jenae’s death. Authorities in Zanzibar ruled Ashlee died by suicide due to mental distress on April 9 at age 31.
According to local outlet The Citizen, authorities said Ashlee asked ChatGPT a suicide-related question several weeks before she died. Ashlee had asked ChatGPT how much of a prescription drug could “kill me”.
Police said text messages sent from her phone to relatives proved she was in a state of “depression and distress” before she died. Police did not make the texts public.

Ashlee was in Zanzibar with her fiancé, Joe McCann, to celebrate their engagement. Hotel staff heard a loud fight and rushed to intervene. The couple was separated and moved to different villas.
McCann found Ashlee Jenae unresponsive and hanging from a doorknob inside her villa on April 8.
McCann did not attend Ashlee’s funeral in New Jersey on May 5.
He remembered Ashlee, real name Ashly Robinson, as his “best friend, confidante and fiancé [sic]” in a post on X.com the same day as the funeral.

“There are no adequate words to describe the total devastation, emptiness, and shock I feel after losing my best friend, confidante and fiancé, Ashly Jenae Robinson,” he wrote. “As a father myself, I am also heartbroken for Ashly’s parents, Yolanda Endres and Harry Robinson.”
McCann continued: “Devoted fans knew Ashly through her charismatic online persona Ashlee, but the person I loved was Ashly, a woman who embodied the virtues of compassion, empathy, kindness, generosity, and love. A nurturing presence, Ashly cared deeply for the people closest to her, which to my eternal gratitude included me. She fattened me up with her amazing cooking and had a great relationship with my kids. Each day, we shared both quiet moments of reflection and the many joys of being in love with each other.”
