A student at Eastern Illinois University emailed Sandrarose.com to say ‘Love & Hip Hop Atlanta‘ star Erica Dixon has refused to honor her commitment to make an appearance at a fashion show at the school.
The students say Erica’s deposit and travel expenses for her and her sister were paid up front to the tune of $1,600. But, they say, Erica never showed up. And what’s more, she kept all the up front money.
Efforts to reach Erica and her management were unsuccessful.
Good Afternoon,
My name is [Name redacted] and I’m a senior at Eastern Illinois University. I was wondering if you could help me in any way. Love & Hip ATL star Erica Dixon was booked and paid her deposit as well as round trip airplane flight tickets that all totaled more than $1600.
She did not commit on her obligations and kept all of the money and did not return anything. We are broke college students that scrambled together enough money to book her and find it horrible that she did this to us.
Her manager promised he would give it back, but then went MIA for months. We have sought legal counsel and tried to sue her manager, however the sheriff’s county’s attempted to serve him documents three times but could not reach him. At this point we have exhausted all of our options and would like to know if you have any opinion on this matter.
After requesting more details on the contract agreement, the student sent this:
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to talk with me. Our agreement was as follows:
Date of engagement: October 28,2012
Booking fee: $1,250
Deposit: $750 and the remaining $500 would be received at the engagement
2 round trip flight tickets, which totaled $834.00
2 hotel rooms, car transportation, and a few rider requests that included chicken wings and liquorErica Dixon cancelled her hosting duties for the show around the week of the event. She cancelled due to personnel reasons. The second passenger that was set to travel with her, which was her sister, was fired. She wanted to change the name on the ticket to another person, however, the airlines has a policy that tickets can not be exchanged or undergo any name changes. Since the tickets could not be changed she cancelled.
The cancellation was made due to issues on her end and the contract says that our money would be returned if she cancelled for any reason other than emergencies such as death. Her twitter timeline was flooded with people inquiring about her appearance to which she finally decided to grace them with an answer that she was not hosting the event.
There is so much I can go in detail about, however, a phone conversation with you would be more suitable. After her timeline was flooded, I received a phone call from her manager, Tommy Cherry, from Webookthem.com telling me that Erica has a bad attitude and she will go off on the people asking will she be at the event and to tell them to leave her alone.
Tommy promised that he would return the money and I have saved text messages that can corroborate my story. However, first he was too busy and said he’d get around to it. Then he stopped answering phone calls and messages altogether.
I’m now reaching out to the media because I have no way of reaching Erica and I wonder if she knows what her manager is doing. I sincerely hope not. Because if she does, then I can not stress the disgust that I feel and I have lost all respect for her because she presented herself as classy on the show, however, not returning promised money to a group of college kids that put their money together and worked minimum wage jobs that paid $8.25 an hr to bring a “celebrity” to their campus is completely wrong.
Our attorney advised us to file a lawsuit in which we did. Our case was last week, however Tommy never showed up. I found out that the Sheriff’s department in his state made three failed attempts to serve him, and left notices on the door of his business but Tommy never responded to them.
I can not personally sue her because I have no information on where she stays or for where to direct the sheriff’s department to. We are lost and we feel utterly confused and used. We just want to put this matter behind us and get back the money we spent for her appearance. If you have any further questions please let me know, also for direct contact, I can be reached at [telephone number redacted]. Thank you.
