Comedian and philanthropist Bill Cosby says there are some serious issues affecting black America and he knows how to solve them.
In an interview with CNN’s Don Lemon, Cosby, 76, said black women are the majority head of households, and he wants to see more black men taking responsibility for their sons.
“I think it has to come from the universities,” he said. “I think, women, strongly because when you see 70 percent, in research, that says they are the leaders of the household, what we need is for people to realize I want to raise my kid. I want to go back and get my three kids. I want to take on that responsibility. I want to love my children.”
Cosby also criticized “no-gross” who don’t provide solutions but are quick to blame him for focusing on the problems in the black community.
Cosby, pictured above right with Jesse Jackson, also said he would like to see more black men going to college, and he admonished the juvenile justice system for medicating troubled youths then putting them back out on the streets.
“If you drug these people, and then you release them, and there’s no prescription for them to get to take to do the same thing, and they go back to the same place,” he said, adding “Now, about this time, this is when you hear the no-groes jump up and say ‘Why don’t you talk about the good things?’”
“Okay, you backed up and didn’t do well,” Cosby said. “You quit school but now you find you need that high school credential. Go to the community college.”
“At age 19 and a half, I knew I didn’t want to do certain things,” the actor said. “It is not what they weren’t doing to me, it’s what I wasn’t doing. It’s a very simple thing.”
Cosby also took a swipe at loud black women when he recalled a conversation he once had with the late singer Sammy Davis Jr.
“We were playing in a routine, and I told him I knew something. He said no you don’t. I said yes, I do. I said it. He said no, that’s not the way it goes. I said the same thing louder. He said, ‘Bill, saying it loud don’t make it right.’”

I agree. I hate a loud, unruly, ignorant broad. Can’t be my friend.
But he has a point…men DO have to WANT to take their families back. Otherwise, the kids are just out there for the Mom and family to raise.
Believe me… I know.
You can start out as one big happy, because I’ve seen it happen. And end up a statistic. Broken families aren’t always broken from day one. Some of these dudes just get up and walk away because they feel they can.
Bill may have had that outside, but he never left Camille and he raised his kids.
Oh.
I love Cliff…too bad Bill aint as clean

People can’t handle the truth they say they want it but not really. Even in when in a relationship people ask for honesty and its provided they can’t handle it.
I do agree with some of the he says though. He’s always been big on education
I agree but I think they should stop putting the focus on college when there are a lot of people who had trouble graduating high school there should be some more focus put on trade schools because some people in certain situations are not equipped for that but are great with a skill but need it improved with trade so they may flourish in life

This is so true. The primary objective of colleges these days is profit and so they allow students in that would have NEVER been accepted to be janitors at the school before.
But they need more and more students to get money. So now you have all these fly-by-night “institutions” with degrees in “hair weaving” and “rim shining” and chit.
A degree is becoming less and less valuable as a result. They got a chit load of uneducated folk with college “degrees.”

To your point above…
There are many uncontrollable factors that can remove any parents cushion of “preparedness” – whether both parents are around or not. That doesn’t mean a person isn’t “prepared” to be a parent. You can NEVER be prepared enough as a parent – we STAY in prep mode.
A parent being gone by death is one thing. But a mofo walking away is GRIMY. Always will be. And whether you want to admit it or not, it DOES have an effect on the kids (wan’t going to go there but…) some can overcome it, some, not so easily.
Now should that stop a child from seeking all opportunities to become something in life – absolutely not. And it usually doesn’t. But they have to want better to do better.

Broken families are most detrimental to poor kids. If you’re being “raised” in the ghetto where, violence, drugs, and dysfuntion is everwhere AND you have no positive parental supervision (hoodrat mother, absentee thug father), then you’re more likely to become just like (or worse) than your parents. And the generational cycle will continue like it has for the last 50 years.

Not much to understand. Parent walks out, leaves another person as a single parent.
It happens everyday. If this person did’t see this as a possiblity and prepare accordingly, that’s their fault.
And yes, there will be some unforseen things that happen as a parent so you can’t prepare for all of them. But when a large percentage of parents are single parents how on Earth can that not be one you are prepared for?
And yes, some kids handle it better than others. But that does’t stop the remaining parent from doing what they need to do and thinking ahead of time if that were to happen to them.

The point of this, Man, is not to condition the masses to PREPARE for a parent to walk out.
The point is to condition the masses to AVOID it, and to encourage said parent to realize that they have a family (children) and to take care of them.
The thought process of accepting being a single family by default of someone walking away is poisonous – thus the reason why Mr. Cosby has stated the following:
“What we need is for people to realize I want to raise my kid. I want to go back and get my three kids. I want to take on that responsibility. I want to love my children.”
Dude! It’s not cool. No matter how you slice the cake, the layers will not change. We don’t need to be “OK” with ANY parent walking out.

education is great but COLLEGE isnt for everyone. some ppl waste 5 years of their life and end up in thousands of dollars in debt only to become tow truck drivers or mechanics or something. they could have skipped out on college/loans and gone to a trade school or learned their craft hands on.
there are many diff routes to success that all need to be respected.

But my question is, is Mr. Cosby wrong? bc I agree with everything he said

Which is why when I said Jack “started” the Kennedy’s the word “start” was in quotations…
And my point wasn’t that a good foundation isn’t helpful, its’ that:
A: SOMEONE needs to start the foundation… that means actually doing something even if you have a chitty foundation now.
B: A good foundationg still isn’t a guarantee you won’t be shooting up the neighborhood (or strangling neighbors like the Kennedy cousin) because lazy people with good foundations don’t turn out to be chit either.

Back in the day, having a baby was a big deal. Sure folks were having pre-marital sex but the vast majority of women didn’t get pregnant by just any Tom, Dick, or Harry. Most people didn’t start families until they were married and established themselves financially.
This is quite the opposite nowadays as the poorest of our communties continue to produce children they cannot support. It’s decisions like these that will keep a high percentage of black folks in poverty. And with poverty comes crime along with a host of other problems. Neither the government, Bill Cosby, Don Lemon, Jesse Jackson, or Obama can fix these because they’re things that only the individual people can control.
@Razz that’s terrible

Yup. A woman would die before just randomly giving birth. Until 1945 when the law changed and the Government said it would be the collection agent for non-married women who gave birth.
This law was changed after World War II to encourage women, especially white women, to have more children even though a large number of “marriage-eligible” men died in the war. They needed to hurry and have people having babies.
Which is exactly what happened. One of the top three dumbest laws ever passed.

People are talking about college when the real issues are in our grade schools. You can come out of a lot of our grade schools/high schools A students and not be prepared for college at all. The government dishes out money for law enforcement based on reading and math levels in 4th grade. Now, our schools are being closed from a supposed lack of money, but let the NFL say “Pay to build a new stadium (that you’ll still have to pay to get into) or we’ll relocate your team” and watch $1848461 billion appear from nowhere. We are being/have been herded into the prison industrial complex.

How do we combat those types of attitudes? Teaching self worth and that you are worth more than where your fam ends up on a poverty scale. But you will not teach that to ppl by beating them down and telling them instead of showing them for themselves.
Have you ever heard a girl say, “that looks so nice on you, it would never look like that on me…

Since women are “the head of households”, apply that type of “defeatist” attitude to the matriarch… now heap on a chitload of scholars coming at you from every which a way AND add in a font or two that aint never even been to a “ghetto” …and tell me what kind of chit strom you just brewed?

I remember Steve Harvey mentioned that Black mothers need to let their fathers discipline their sons w/o interferring.

Seeing my mother punish my brothers\sisters really made me loathe physical punishment.
I Have pt my hands on my son Three times in his Life. It Wasnt GOOD,so Ive never had to really put my hands on him,Cause he knows when he sees the horns it JUST MAY Get UGLY

We know that not ALL black folks are criminals, living in poverty, or neglecting their children. Many of us are handling our business despite the odds being stacked against us. But whenever our so-called “black leaders” talk about fixing any issues, they usually refer to these issues as affecting the “black” community. This is the same reason why the overwhelming majority of black people vote Democrat–because Dems supposedly “care” about black issues while Republicans don’t give a shyt about us. Most of these issues that are affecting a high percentage of black people cannot be fixed by any politician or black leader because they would’ve been fixed already.
It may be time for people to stop referring to problems as “black” since we don’t all experience the same problems even though we share the same skin color. So then you gotta ask yourself, “why don’t all black people in America face the same type of problems?”
SON are you saying that I have been hoodwink, bamboozled *sonic foot tap*

SHOW US YOUR RECEIPTS, JMO!!!!
@man I have been watching CNN all morning since it happen and if these news analysis use the word fluid one more time. They are on my reserve nerve. It’s sad the entire incident.
LUVN I like the fact that they dont know when I will flip. The fact that Im short and can run up on you and kung fu your ass is scary enough for them. When the accent comes out welll you done fckd up now. One of my cousins that I raised threaten to call the cops on me. Mind you I aint even hit him. My ass dialed the cops for him his ass hung up and was scared chitless. Same one that told me he aint have nothing to wear. Bagged up all his chit and he came home to an empty room. Dont fck with me bc I have alllll the idle time in the world. They prefer the beating than my punishment.
@MAN
Navy Base in Washington
@man … Washington navy yard
I cringed when Mr. Razz gave lil Razz his popping the first few times.. We don’t have to whoop him now. A swift pop on the ass once in a while, but 90% of the time all I have to do is ACT like I’m calling Daddy.
Im over that incident wtf you need to do a mass shooting. Another female that should of swallowed instead of giving birth.
@missharlem.lol
At least one of the D.C. Navy base shooters was black. Damn.
Shiid normally they would go on with their Sprite womens and give the black community a cool fukk you.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
But sis…Shawn Upshaw is yt. Lady he had the affair with. Sprite.
He gave the black community a cool azz fugg you ALREADY… back in the day. He had his chance to speak and do publically for the black community but he said no that is okay. I’ll take my career for $500 Alex. And let other folks do the PUBLIC work so to speak. Sure he helped bail out a few protesters etc but he didnt want his face to be associated with the movement. He wanted to be able to continue to Sambo for yt. Lets be real…who was Bill’s corny azz jokes geared toward in the early days? A Redd Foxx and a Dolemite he was not.
I dont and never will respect Bill as a so called activist. I loved Fat Albert and Cosby Show like everybody else. But he started as a Sambo. The end.
@luv he whooped my daughter one time that the belt gave her welts. I was scared shytless that the school & nurse would question her (this was in the am before school)

@dub, yep. My dad only hit me once. Shiiiid, that was in middle school, talking back to teacher. When I tell you he waited until I went to bed, then came in w/ a tree branch….scurred to sleep for a wk!

What I hate is when you see a black woman walking down the street with cell phone to the ear, yelling, and she is cursing out someone on the other end. It’s always some young rachet chick, always black. Hot Mess!!!
_____________
Wait i just came back from lunch at a place in a strip mall there is a nail salon 2 doors down and a Asian Woman was pacing the walkway up and down the strip mall on the phone yelling and screaming in Vietnamese. Is she rachett? Should all Asians be embarrassed by the behavior of one?I don’t understand this embarrassed negro line of thought. People are people and act all kinds of ways. Some good some not so good. And no matter what the behavior is no matter what degree you have no matter how much u spend on clothing and cars no matter how cultured your speech the racists will never acknowledge that look how they treat the POTUS.. So I don’t care about a black person being uncouth in public it has nothing to do with me.
And yes, he did use the tree branch!

Wow. That makes a lot of sense.
I’ve always said the last 2 years of high school should be better spent in community college.
Cosby isn’t lying about the black community. The break down definitely began when women had to step up and be the head of households ALONE. Men not only teach men to be men but they also teach girls to be women that demand respect. Children watch the interactions of the adults around them. They are usually raised to become either what they witnessed or something clicks and they decide to do the opposite.
I can’t see how anyone can look at some of the black communities across this country and not see the truth in what Bill Cosby says.
@dats
I care what black people do in public because regardless of what you may think every culture is put into a group no matter how good some of the people in that culture may be doing. Asians and Latinos can’t drive. We see one Mexican run a stop sign we claiming that not one Mexican can drive. We all do the grouping. It makes me sad to think of the progress that black people made in the 50’s and 60’s and then I see a rat yelling in the street on her cell phone.
