New details have emerged in the tragic case of a SUV driver who ran over a biker while fleeing a mob of motorcycle riders.
The wife of the injured biker, Edwin Mieses Jr, claims he was only trying to help his fellow biker who was run over by 33-year-old Alexian Lien.
Mieses, 26, is in critical condition in a New York hospital with head and back injuries.
Lien, whose wife and toddler were in the SUV, accidentally tapped the back of a bike being driven by Christopher Cruz, causing Cruz to lose control of the bike.
“There’s no hope for his back,’ Dayana Mieses told ABC News. “They crushed his spine. They broke it in two different places, so he will be forever, forever paralyzed.”
Lien initially pulled over after the accident, but he fled — running over Mieses — when Cruz’s fellow bikers surrounded the SUV.
The resulting chase was captured on the helmet cam of one of the bikers.
Lien told police he was scared for his safety, and the safety of his wife and child, when he ran over Mieses and several other bikers. The bikers eventually caught up to Lien and beat him when he was forced to stop in heavy traffic.
But Mrs. Mieses says the bikers have been unfairly portrayed as villains.
“When all the bikers stopped, my husband got out, parked his bike to walk over to try to help his friend,” she said. “He walked over towards the front of the vehicle when, at this point, I don’t know what happened: the man was scared, the man just peeled off and ran over my husband.”
Cruz and another biker were later identified and arrested for reckless driving. Police say they don’t plan to arrest Lien. But Mieses’ family says they are considering suing Lien.

I think it becomes about race when people—ok some–make it about race. When I first viewed the video, because of the glare and how the video was shot, I assumed they were white (the bikers). Not until arrests were made I found they were Hispanic (and possibly black). I still feel the same way I did when I first viewed the video. Does racism exists, of course. Any minority (be it Asian, Indian, Black, or Hispanic) will tell you that definitively. But do I think it applies to this case. I do not.

I never read about anyone’s leg being broken. How would a bunch of bikers clearly on a ride know that someone’s leg had been broken? If they were that concerned, they would have pulled over and helped the injured person.
The tape started when it did because they wanted to tape their brethren doing some damage on the highway.

YUP!
Some of these bikers have a sense of entitlement and think they run the roads when they are riding. I’ve seen on many occasions where one or two would block traffic lights so that the rest of the bikers could past, sometimes more than 10 of them. So I can see how this situation could have escalated and the sub driver was prolly trying to past. I’m not sure what took place before the camera came on but clearly the guy slowed down on purpose in front of the SUV. the bikers were looking for trouble. I’m surprised more of them didn’t get hurt.
They aren’t ‘real’ bikers…they’re stunt bikers which is why it looks like they’re all driving mopeds- and while ole buddy cuz had the helmet cam on. They record each other doing douchebag stunts all up and down expressways and post the chit on YouTube and congrats each other for being such douchekings. If you watch the video or read the whole story you see that the bikers were effing with the driver and stopped up short so that he’d bump them. Then one of the ‘bikers’ opens the drivers door like they fixin to drag his ass. If I had my fam and young child in the ride I woulda mowed all them down too.
I live in NYC and these POSs do this ish every summer. They ain’t no choir boys. From what i can tell, the dude who break check the SUV started this whole thing. I think he knew they owned the highway and was trying to intimidate the driver of the SUV, and things got out of hand, and backfired one of their boys. People do irrational ish when they are scared, and i’m willing to bet the driver of the SUV did too. Every summer, they clogg up the street, intimidate officers on foot, and act like rules don’t apply to them. Its unfortunate what happen to dude, but for every action there is a reaction.
This right here is why I don’t ride wtih fools. The one who got charged is the one who should have been charged!
