CBS Network’s first Black soap opera “Beyond the Gates” is a huge hit with daytime TV viewers.

Beyond the Gates premiered on CBS on Monday, Feb. 24.

The ratings are in and the series averaged 5 million viewers in the first week.

In its first week on air, Beyond the Gates averaged 5.2 million unique viewers. It was in a virtual tie with General Hospital among total viewers.

Beyond The Gates‘ audience is 55% Black, higher than The Young & Restless (29%), The Bold and the Beautiful (30%), and General Hospital (22%).

“Beyond the Gates” stars Clifton Davis and Tamara Tunie as Vernon and Anita Dupree, aka “The Duprees.” Vernon’s father built Fairmont Crest, a gated enclave of upscale homes.

Karla Mosley (left) and Daphnee Duplaix (right) play their daughters Dani and Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson, a clinical psychologist.

Tension builds in the air as the Dupree family gathers at the country club to discuss Dani’s ex-husband, Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett), marrying his paralegal, Hayley Lawson, at the country club.

Dani, a reformed alcoholic who fell off the wagon, is beside herself with jealousy. Tempers flare when she spots Hayley at the club, and she slaps fire out of her.

Later, at the wedding (which seemed more like a funeral), Dani’s emotions boil over and she threatens Bill and Hayley with a gun.

Vernon uses his connections down at City Hall to help Dani avoid serving hard time in prison.

And the drama continues daily at 2 PM EST.

Suspects in Texas double murder violated plea agreements in previous crimes

Two suspects wanted in the double murder of Texas rapper G$ Lil Ronnie and his daughter violated plea agreements in previous violent crimes.

Lil Ronnie, real name Ronnie Sibley, 35, and his daughter, R’mani Sibley, were celebrating her belated birthday when they were gunned down at a car wash in Forest Hill just before 11 a.m. on Monday. R’mani turned 5 years old the day before.

Police named 21-year-old Jakobie Russell and Adonis Robinson, 24, as suspects in the double murder.

“They’re scared,” Forest Hill Police Chief David Hernandez said during a news conference on Wednesday. “They’re cowards. They’re hiding.”

“We have public enemy No. 1, Adonis Robinson, who’s also a registered sex offender. Public enemy No. 2, Jakobie Russell, who’s on the run. They’re scared. They’re cowards,” Hernandez added.

Both suspects violated plea agreements for other crimes. In January 2023, Fort Worth police arrested Russell for domestic violence assault of a pregnant person.

Jakobie Russell (pictured) is accused of intentionally or knowingly injuring the woman by “striking, scratching, or dragging her with his hand,” according to the charging documents.

Russell pleaded guilty to the domestic violence charge in June 2023. In exchange for his plea, he was ordered to attend battery prevention classes, take random drug tests, and not commit any more crimes.

However, Russell did not take the classes and he failed a drug test twice. He also failed to pay court costs.

In December 2023, police charged Russell with shooting and injuring a man in Fort Worth. Russell was allowed to take a plea deal for a lesser, misdemeanor assault charge on Jan. 27, 2025.

However, he failed to report to the sheriff’s office for community service work, beginning Jan. 31, 2025.

On Feb. 11, the judge issued a warrant for Russell’s arrest and ordered him confined in jail. But it is not clear if police were actively looking for him.

On Feb. 18, the judge recalled the arrest warrant for unknown reasons.

Russell was also convicted on a misdemeanor gun charge in 2022, but he took a plea deal in that case to remain on the street.

Adonis Robinson, 24, also has a lengthy criminal record that includes violent crimes dating back to October 2018.

In 2019, Fort Worth police arrested Robinson for attempted sexual assault of a 55-year-old woman who was jogging near Marine Creek Lake.

Robinson ambushed the woman and attempted to undress her, but a bystander heard her cries for help and chased Robinson off.

A grand jury indicted Robinson in September 2019. He was jailed for more than two years and a judge ordered him to register annually as a sex offender for ten years.

Robinson violated the terms of his plea agreement when he failed to register as a sex offender.

Fort Worth police arrested Robinson in June 2022. He pleaded guilty to a felony for failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements. A judge sentenced Robinson to one year in a state jail.

In a Facebook post last month, Lil Ronnie posed with R’mani and her best friend Cheyenne, whose father couldn’t attend a Valentine’s Day celebration at their school.

Cheyenne is seen in a video shared by her father after R’mani’s murder.

NBA star Anthony Edwards pays $3,200 in child support for daughter with influencer

NBA star Anthony Edwards recently scored a major court win against his ex Ayesha Howard. A California judge granted his petition to move her child support case to Georgia.

Judges in Georgia are notorious for siding with the father in child support cases. The average child support payment in Georgia is $2,000 a month – regardless of the father’s net worth.

Anthony’s complicated legal battles with his baby mamas include a recent case filed by Daja Carlyle, the mother of his 2-year-old daughter, Aris.

According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Anthony, 23, filed a petition for custody, parenting time and child support for Aris on February 20, 2024.

In the filing, He said he was the biological father of Aris, born in 2023. He said Daja did not list his name as the father on the birth certificate. Anthony asked the court to award him joint legal and physical custody of their daughter, and to set the amount of child support.

In her filing, Daja admitted that the NBA star was the father of her daughter, and that they weren’t married.

The beauty influencer asked the court to set child support but she opposed Anthony’s request for joint legal and physical custody of their daughter. Daja asked the court to award her primary physical custody with Anthony having some reasonable visitations.

In a scene from Netflix’s “STARTING 5,” Anthony gushed about becoming a dad for the first time at age 19.

“That’s my little girl,” he said, while cradling Aris in his arms. “I’ve got to pick her up and walk around with her and hold her and talk to her.”

But Anthony and Daja soon fell out and stopped speaking.

In April 2024, Anthony filed a motion asking the court to prevent Daja from contacting his people.

Anthony’s lawyer said Daja was “harassing” the Timberwolves star and his management.

“There is no rhyme or reason for [Daja] to contact individuals who work for [Anthony]. They do not work for her, they do not answer to her and they are not there for her to communicate with, nor do they want to speak with her,” Anthony’s lawyer said. “They are also not involved in these [court] proceedings.”

His lawyer continued, “Due to the conduct that is taking place, there is an urgent need for the Court to intervene to prevent ongoing and future harm and harassment to the Father and his associates.”

Court documents show Anthony voluntarily paid Daja $5,000 a month in temporary child support. He asked the court to set a child support amount of $3,222 a month based on Daja’s monthly income of $8,000.

“There has been no indication that the monthly $5,000 the Mother receives, which is already in excess of the presumptive amount, does not support or fulfill the minor child’s needs,” Anthony’s lawyer told the court.

The court recently closed the case after a final consent agreement was entered by both parties. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed, but sources say Anthony’s motion for $3,222 in monthly child support was granted.

Police Arrest Man Who Rented Home Where 3 Kansas City Chiefs Fans Were Found Dead in Backyard

A Kansas City man who rented the home where three Chiefs fans were found dead in the backyard has been charged in connection with their deaths.

Jordan Willis and Ivory J. Carson were charged with three counts of involuntary manslaughter and felony delivery of a controlled substance.

Kansas City police announced the arrests in a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.

Platte County Missouri Sheriff

“Jordan Willis and Ivory Carson have been charged with distribution of a controlled substance and three counts of involuntary manslaughter,” Platte County Prosecutor Eric G. Zahnd said.

Carson is being held on $100,000 bail, while Willis has agreed to surrender and post a $100,000 bond.

Willis rented the house where Ricky Johnson, David Harrington, Clayton McGeeney, and a fourth man watched a Chiefs game on January 7, 2024. Their frozen bodies were found in Willis’ backyard 2 days later on January 9, 2024.

Willis insisted he didn’t know his friends were deceased in his backyard, despite their friends and family members frantically calling and texting him and leaving messages on his Facebook page.

The men’s cars were parked outside his home for 2 days, but Willis claimed he never noticed the cars.

Willis’ attorney, John Picerno, expressed surprise that his client was charged.

“I was very surprised,” Picerno told KSHB 41. “One of the reasons it came as a shock is, I was told months ago that if charges were forthcoming, that Jordan would not be charged in any way with their deaths. I had received that information from an assistant prosecuting attorney in Platte County.”

Court documents obtained by KSHB 41 showed the three men had lethal amounts of cocaine and fentanyl in their bloodstream.

A probable cause statement reveals Carson’s DNA was found on a baggie containing fentanyl that was in the house. Willis’ DNA was found on a baggie of cocaine.

“One of the things that the State has the burden to do is prove beyond a reasonable doubt that not only did Jordan supply drugs, but that the drugs that he allegedly supplied caused these individual’s deaths,” Picerno said. “There’s multiple layers to the prosecutor’s case.”

The victims’ families were relieved to hear the news after waiting more than a year for justice.

After the men failed to return home in January 2024, their families and friends made phone calls, and sent texts and messages via Facebook Messenger to Willis. But their calls and texts went unanswered.

On January 9, 2024, McGeeney’s fiancée went to Willis’ residence in the Northland area. After knocking and getting no response, she broke into the basement through a window. She discovered a body on the back porch and immediately called 911.

Police arrived and knocked on the front door and rang the doorbell. Willis finally answered the door, wearing only boxer’s shorts and holding an empty wine glass.

Willis claimed he slept for 2 days and didn’t hear his phone ringing or McGeevey’s fiancé calling his name after she broke into his house.

Police conducted a search of the house and discovered 2 more bodies in the backyard.

Facebook post

Attorney Picerno said Willis walked the three victims and a fourth man to the front door at the end of the night. He then went to sleep on his couch for 2 days.

Picerno claimed Willis slept next to a loud fan and he didn’t hear any commotion.

In an interview with NewsNation, Picerno said Willis left his home “sporadically” on Jan. 8 and 9. Picerno then walked back that statement, saying that Willis had only been in and out of his bedroom to use the bathroom.

Willis had dogs that needed to be let out into the backyard. But he claimed he never saw the bodies – one of which lay on his back porch just a few feet from his back door.

“KCPD detectives never stopped working on the case, waiting for all the facts to come in. Reaching this point is a testament to their dedication to delivering justice for the victims and their loved ones,” Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said.

The Forest Hill Police Department has identified two suspects wanted in the double murder of a rapper and his daughter at a Forest Hill car wash.

Adonis Robinson, a 24-year-old registered sex offender, and Jakobie Russell, 21, are accused of shooting Ronnie “Lil Ronnie” Sibley, 35, and his 5-year-old daughter, R’mani Sibley, at Slappy’s Express car wash on Forest Hill Drive just before 11 a.m. Monday.

Surveillance video shows Sibley vacuuming his Dodge Charger when 2 gunmen approached the passenger side and opened fire, killing R’mani instantly.

In the video, Sibley, also known as G$ Lil Ronnie, Hoodfame Lil Ronnie and Chuckie Smith, is seen fleeing, but the gunmen chased him and fatally shot him.

Police chief David Hernandez announced the identities of the suspects at a press conference on Wednesday.

Both suspects are still at large and are considered armed and extremely dangerous. “They’re scared, they’re cowards, they’re hiding,” Hernandez said.

Law enforcement is urging anyone with information on their whereabouts to contact the Forest Hill Police Department.

Actress Sheryl Lee Ralph seemed to take shots at the Academy Awards voting process during an interview on the red carpet on Sunday.

Ralph, best known for her role as Deena Jones in the Broadway musical Dreamgirls, was disappointed that British actress Cynthia Erivo didn’t win the Best actress award for “Wicked.”

The 68-year-old “Abbott Elementary” star attended the Vanity Fair Oscar After Party on Sunday, March 2.

“I was disappointed that Wicked didn’t get more [awards],” she said during an interview on the red carpet.

“Wicked” won 2 Oscars at the 2025 Academy Awards – for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design. The movie was nominated for 10 awards.

Erivo (pictured with Ariana Grande) has won a Tony Award, a Daytime Emmy Award, and a Grammy Award, but she has yet to win a coveted Oscar.

Ralph implied that Erivo might have won an Oscar if she played a stripper role.

“I have told people over and over and over again: The fastest way to an Oscar is either on a pole or have… I’m telling you, sex sells baby, sex sells,” Ralph said.

Ralph’s answer shocked the interviewer who said she didn’t expect her to say that.

One social media user noted that “14 women have won academy awards for playing sex workers.”

Sherri Shepherd slams Megan Thee Stallion for showing nudity on the red carpet at the Oscar Awards (Video)

Sherri Shepherd got a little preachy during the March 4 episode of her talk show. She chastised rapper Megan Thee Stallion for displaying partial nudity on the red carpet at the 2025 Oscar Awards on Sunday.

“Wow! THAT is a dress!” shouted one photographer on the red carpet. “Her boobs are out!” said another photographer. “I see that! Looks good though,” said the first photographer (watch the video).

During her show, Shepherd lectured Megan on showing modesty and class while maintaining an air of mystery in public.

Shepherd also lashed out at Zoe Kravitz for wearing a black satin gown with a cutout in the back that left nothing to the imagination.

Karwai Tang/WireImage

“Zoe Kravitz graced us with her butt crack. You could see everything,” Shepherd said of Kravitz.

“Megan Thee Stallion wore a dark green gown with only matching green pasties to cover up her breasts,” she continued.

“And so this is — I have to put my Auntie Sherri wig on – and I say this with all of the love that I have: ladies this is not it. And I say this because there are young women, young girls who are looking up to all of you!”

Shepherd recalled her grandmother telling her: “‘Let them use their imagination. Be a little mysterious.'”

“But, you know, when they look at these girls, they don’t have any secrets. Nobody gets to use imagination or their mind.

Shepherd addressed Megan specifically – because Megan is a college graduate and she should know better.

Shepherd said: “Megan Thee Stallion, I love you, I do. But I’m so upset because God gave you a legitimate gift. You are amazing with your lyrical rhymes and how smart you are.”

Shepherd acknowledged that celebrities don’t want to be role models, but she said Megan is an inspiration.

“But here’s the thing: it comes with the territory; being a role model,” Shepherd said. “You can’t escape it… Do you know how many young girls you inspired to go to school also?”

Jennifer Hudson hit in the face by a basketball at NBA game (Video)

Jennifer Hudson was almost seriously injured while sitting courtside at an NBA game on Tuesday night. The daytime TV host was sitting with longtime boyfriend, Common, when she was hit in the face by a basketball.

The incident happened during the Golden State Warriors vs NY Knicks game in Madison Square Garden in New York City on March 4.

A fully inflated basketball feels like a rock. In fact, players call it “the rock” because it’s hard. So imagine being beaned in the face with one.

Common, 52, tried to deflect the ball away from Jennifer, but he wasn’t quick enough.

The impact was hard enough to knock Jennifer’s glasses off her face. According to PEOPLE, the frames appeared to be bent from the impact.

Jennifer, 43, blinked her eyes several times and mouthed the word “wow.”

“Protect Jennifer Hudson!” a sports analyst said during a replay of the incident. “Oh no, not the glasses,” another sports commentator said. “Those look real expensive, too.”

“Let me see what Common did. Did he protect her? No, no he didn’t,” said the second commentator, as his co-host said the actor “tried.”

J-Hud looked annoyed, but sports fans know to keep your eyes on the ball at all times. Fans have been seriously injured by errant balls at sporting events in the past.

The Hapa Blonde/GC Images

J-Hud and Common went public with their relationship in January 2024. Since then, they have been on and off – but mainly on.

“I mean, we’re both very musical,” Hudson told host Seth Meyers of her relationship with the spoken-word rapper.

“Two Chicagoans, and I was like, ‘Where’s the poetry and the storytelling in the holiday albums?’ And who better to do it than him? To do, like, spoken-word poetry for the holidays? And so that’s where the song came from,” she added of the song “Almost Christmas.”

Prior to Jennifer, Common dated singer Erykah Badu, actress Taraji P. Henson, tennis player Serena Williams, and standup comedienne Tiffany Haddish.

Haddish has never gotten over their breakup.

Trump Appoints 13-Year-Old Cancer Survivor As Honorary Secret Service Agent

President Donald Trump held the first State of the Union Address of his second term on Tuesday night. Trump’s speech to the joint session of Congress was hailed by Republicans as his best speech ever.

However, Democrats and MSNBC hosts criticized the president for making a 13-year-old cancer survivor an honorary Secret Service agent during his speech.

President Trump honored Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel during an emotional moment, announcing the boy as an honorary Secret Service agent, complete with his own Secret Service ID card.

“In 2018 DJ was diagnosed with brain cancer. The doctors gave him five months at most to live. That was more than six years ago,” Trump said, to loud applause and cheers.

“Police departments love him. And tonight, DJ, we’re going to do you the biggest honor of them all. I am asking our new Secret Service director, Sean Curran, to officially make you an agent of the United States Secret Service.”

GOP Congress members chanted “DJ, DJ, DJ!” as his father held him in the air. DJ then embraced Curran.

The touching moment went viral on social media. There wasn’t a dry eye on the Republican side of the room.

However, Rachel Maddow and Nicolle Wallace slammed Trump as “disgusting” for “making a spectacle” during his speech.

“For the record, and this is disgusting, the president made a spectacle out of praising a young man who thus far survived pediatric cancer, as if the president had something to do with that,” Maddow said Tuesday evening.

“This was in the midst of him praising [the Department of Government Efficiency],” she added. “The DOGE cuts, among other things, have cut off funding for ongoing research into pediatric cancer.”

Wallace agreed, but she showed more compassion than Maddow, who gives the LGBTQ+ community a bad name.

“But I think this was a lesson in finding one thing that you let yourself feel,” Wallace told Maddow. “And I let myself feel joy about DJ, and I hope he’s alive for another, you know, 95 years and I hope he lives the life he wants to live. He wants to be a cop. He knows what he wants to do, and maybe when you have childhood cancer, that crystallizes for you.”

“I hope he has a long life as a law enforcement officer,” Wallace continued. “But I hope he never has to defend the United States Capitol against Donald Trump’s supporters, and if he does, I hope he isn’t one of the six who loses his life to suicide, and I hope he isn’t one who has to testify against the people who carried out acts of seditious conspiracy and then lived to see Donald Trump pardon those people.”
