Blake Lively has a troubled history that includes wearing makeup and an afro wig to convince guys she was a Black girl.
Lively is currently involved in a lawsuit with her “It ends with Us” co-star Justin Baldoni. The “Gossip Girls” star accused Baldoni of assaulting her while filming a love scene.
During the discovery phase of the lawsuit, Baldoni’s lawyers release an unedited video clip from the movie set. Baldoni said the clip proves Lively was not under duress while filming her love scene with him.
Baldoni’s fans have uncovered other video clips of an old interview Lively did with MTV in the early 2000s.
In the video Lively confessed that she and a friend dressed up in disguises to pursue their male crushes.
Lively said she dressed up as a Black girl because, “I’m a geek.”
“My best friend and I, we were in 10th grade, we had like crazy crushes. We would drive around and like stalk these guys,” Lively confessed. “We decided one night to go to the arcade where they were and I put bronzer all over myself and a Scary Spice ‘fro. So I thought they would think I was a Black girl and so I could stalk them.”
Scary Spice is the stage name of Melanie Brown, aka “Mel B”, (2nd from right). Mel B is a member of the famous ’90s pop group the Spice Girls. She is mixed race and identifies as Black.
Lively’s old interview resurfaced on X (Twitter). Black Twitter was not pleased with the blackface implications.
“I beg your finest pardon ??” One X user wrote.
“How does bronzing your skin to look black as well as putting on an Afro wig constitute ‘geek’?” asked another person.
A third person wrote: “What is up with so many celebs doing black face?”
Another person accused Baldoni’s team of “Working overtime trying to ruin her.” That fan said Lively is “besties with Beyoncé.”

In another incident from 2012, Lively was accused of racism after she married actor Ryan Reynolds on an old plantation where there are nine slave cabins on a street called Slave Street.
Reynolds addressed the racism allegations on social media. “Years ago we got married again at home — but shame works in weird ways. A giant f—— mistake like that can either cause you to shut down or it can reframe things and move you into action…”
Lively wrote her own lengthy response in a 2020 post on Instagram.
“We’ve never had to worry about preparing our kids for different rules of law or what might happen if we’re pulled over in the car. We don’t know what it’s like to experience that life day in and day out. We can’t imagine feeling that kind of fear and anger. We’re ashamed that in the past we’ve allowed ourselves to be uninformed about how deeply rooted systemic racism is.”
