Last week the Atlanta Hawks announced a promotion involving popular downtown Atlanta strip club Magic City. The announcement said March 16 would be “Magic City Monday” at State Farm Arena.
The Hawks will take on the Orlando Magic on March 16 at State Farm Arena.
The night will also feature a halftime performance by T.I., who is currently in the midst of an Internet war with fellow rapper 50 Cent.
Security will be heightened at the arena since there have been threats made by both camps.
In addition to T.I., there will be strippers at the game and lemon pepper chicken wings – which the strip club is also famous for.
The event will also promote an upcoming STARZ docuseries about Magic City at the game.
San Antonio Spurs player Luke Kornet is calling for the Hawks to cancel the Magic City Monday promo event, saying it’s disrespectful to women.
In a post on Medium.com, Kornet said the NBA should protect and hold women in esteem.
He said many of the NBA’s female employees “work diligently every day to make this the best basketball league in the world. We should promote an atmosphere that is protective and respectful of the daughters, wives, sisters, mothers, and partners that we know and love.”
Kornet added:
“Allowing this night to go forward without protest would reflect poorly on us as an NBA community, specifically in being complicit in the potential objectification and mistreatment of women in our society.
“Regardless of how a woman finds her way into the adult entertainment industry, many in this space experience abuse, harassment, and violence to which they should never be subjected.”
Others have also spoken out against the Magic City Monday promo. They said it would inappropriate to hold a strip club night at an NBA game where fathers, wives and children will be in attendance.
It would be embarrassing if a Magic City dancer waved at her customers sitting in the stands with their families at the arena.
