Haiti's First Lady Martine Moise was airlifted to Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition after she was wounded during the presidential assassination.

An air ambulance carrying the critically wounded first lady landed in South Florida at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hours earlier, her husband, Haiti's President Jovenel Moise was assassinated in their home.

Martine Moise, 47, received multiple gunshot wounds to her upper torso, legs, arm and hand. Her current condition is listed as "stable" and "out of danger", according to WPLG.

President Moise, 53, was shot multiple times and killed by commandos at the presidential palace in the hills above Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

The Haitian president was shot 12 times and one of his eyes was gouged out, DailyMail.com reports.

A graphic photo showing the president's mutilated body lying on the ground sparked speculation that he was castrated to "send a message."

The commandos pretended to be agents with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to gain access to the presidential palace in the early morning hours of Wednesday.

Moise's terrified daughter Jomarlie hid in a bedroom and was not injured. She told police the commandos shouted "DEA agents" as they stormed the palace.

Haitian police exchanged gunfire with the commandos, killing four of them on Wednesday. Two of the commandos were arrested, according to DailyMail.com.

From his hospital bed, Pope Francis expressed his sorrow at the "odious" assassination and condemned all forms of violence, according to a Vatican statement.

Pope Francis is in the hospital recovering from surgery. He is pictured with the Moises during a private meeting on January 26, 2018 at the Vatican.

Martine and Jovenel, a former auto parts salesman, were childhood sweethearts who attended the same school in Port-au-Prince. They were married in 1996 and share three grown children.

Haitians accused President Moise of becoming a dictator. His refusal to hold elections last year to pick his successor resulted in civil unrest and violence on the island nation.

On Wednesday, millions of Haitians huddled inside their homes as the Haitian police and military took control of the country.

Prime Minister Joseph Claude assumed sole power of Haiti -- despite Moise appointing his replacement the day before he was gunned down.

CNN anchor Don Lemon is livid after Vatican officials refused to bless same-sex unions.

The leaders of the Catholic Church announced the ruling on Monday, March 15, as part of a two-page decree signed by Pope Francis.

The ruling stated God "cannot bless sin", calling any such blessing "not licit."

The Vatican said the church should be welcoming toward gay people, "with respect and sensitivity," but not endorse their unions.

Lemon was a guest on ABC's "The View" where he promoted his new book, addressing racism in America.

Switching to the Vatican's ruling, Lemon, who is in a same-sex marriage, said the ruling was "wrong" and he called on the Vatican to "reexamine themselves and their teachings."

He added:

"I respect people's right to believe in whatever they want to believe in their God. But if you believe in something that hurts another person or that does not give someone the same rights or freedoms, not necessarily under the Constitution, because this is under God, I think that that's wrong."

He continued: "God is not about hindering people or even judging people."

"We have to start being realistic about God and the Bible," he said. "If you are a person of faith in this country, and we know America is built on faith and religious freedom, a good way of starting is to present the true identity of Jesus."

Lemon went on to describe Jesus as "a Black or brown person."

"[Jesus] is a black or brown person, rather than someone who looks like a white hippy from Sweden or Norway. We should start with that and put that in your home, either a Black Jesus or Brown Jesus. Jesus looked more like a Muslim or someone who is dark, rather than a blonde-looking carpenter."

The Vatican is getting closer to solving the mystery of who 'liked' a bikini model's photo from Pope Francis' official Instagram account.

It's doubtful that the head of the Catholic Church 'liked' the naughty photo himself.

It's more likely that a Vatican official forgot to log out of the Pope's account before logging into his own page to browse the IG profiles of scantily clad models.

A sharp-eyed Twitter user spotted the Pope's 'like' and the post went viral on social media.

Barstool Sports captioned the freaky photo: "Pope Francis is horny as hell."

While Pope Francis is staying out of the controversy, Brazilian model Natalia is enjoying her newfound fame. It's not everyday that the Pope gives an Instagram escort his blessing.

"At least I'm going to heaven," Natalia joked.

Barack Obama isn't going to like this.

Pope Francis paused during his world wind tour of the eastern hemisphere of the U.S. to meet secretly with embattled Kentucky clerk Kim Davis.

Davis' attorney said the Pope requested the meeting with Davis who was thrown in jail by a federal judge for refusing to issue marriage licenses to the gays.

Meriam Ibrahim blessed by Pope Francis

If it weren't for her tremendous courage, bravery, and the compassion of Christians all over the world, Meriam Ibrahim would not be alive today.

Sentenced to death in Sudan for refusing to recant her Christian faith, Meriam, her husband and their 2 children, toddler Martin and infant Maya who was born in prison, arrived in Italy on Thursday.

An Italian diplomat who accompanied the family from Sudan said Italy relied on its historic ties within the Horn of Africa region to negotiate Ibrahim's release.

Pope Francis kissing feet

Photos of Pope Francis kissing the feet of young male inmates at a detention center are drawing mixed reactions. Partly because the pope broke from longstanding tradition and also kissed the feet of 2 women detainees as part of the pontiff's Easter celebrations. The papal tradition of washing and kissing feet is usually reserved for kissing the feet of other male priests. Women have never been included in the papal tradition until Pope Francis' era. Apparently Pope Francis has been routinely washing and kissing the feet of the poor and downtrodden for years.

Watch the video after the break.
