Venus Williams can hardly concentrate on her tennis game when her boyfriend Ello Pls, 24, is on the court. Venus and her sister Serena Williams are competing in the upcoming Sony 2013 tennis tourney in Miami.
Venus and Ello have dated for less than a year. They met in Miami last year. Ello was one of the models working with her on her clothing line EleVen.
Tennis superstar Serena Williams, 31, and her boyfriend/coach Patrick Mouratoglou, 42, went on a shopping spree in Melbourne, Australia on Sunday. Despite being spotted kissing and canoodling recently, Williams denies having a romantic interest in her coach of 7 months.
Williams and her rumored boyfriend were spotted shopping in Melbourne days after she was ousted from the quarter finals of the Australian Open by a young upstart named Sloane Stephens, 19.
Williams suffered back spasms and a sprained right ankle during her crushing defeat after dropping 2 sets: 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 to the no-name tennis player. Stephens went on to lose in straight sets 1-6, 4-6 to Victoria Azarenka in the semifinals of the Australian Open.
An Australian Tennis tv commentator infuriated tennis fans and offended African Americans around the world with his sexist remarks about Venus Williams derrière. Roger Rasheed, a former coach of Lleyton Hewitt, made the comments during a slow-motion replay of a match between Venus Williams and China's Yan Zi at the Australian Open this past weekend.
"Take a look at this now," said Rasheed to his co-commentators Tracy Austin and Nicole Bradtke. "Make or think as you will, ladies, but for me, that's a pretty good sight."
Former tennis champ Austin pointed out that Williams had more going for her than just her booty, "she's got her own clothing line.. and she brings more than just her tennis game to the court."
Fans around the country lit up the tv station's switchboard with complaints. Some felt the remarks were inappropriate during a live tennis broadcast.
NBC said there would be no action taken against Rasheed.
Despite pouring her heart out in a blog post on her official website last week, Australian Open champion Serena Williams now says it wasn't such a big deal.
Williams says she was shocked at the reaction her blog post received from fans and other blogs. "I didn't know it would be that big. (So) many people go on my website, which is fantastic. So many hits. It was like, Oh my God," she said.
Williams said she was in a "melancholy state" when she wrote about a nameless boyfriend who stopped calling her. "I think it got really out of control," said Williams about the fan reaction.
Williams said she would continue to expose her innermost feelings on her blog including what not to do in relationships and secrets of her recent weight loss. "It's really interactive and I always try to bare my soul so people can kind of see what kind of person I am and get a better feeling for Serena Williams," she said.
