Obama: “We Won’t Do it Again”

Sen. Barack Obama has responded to the criticism over parading his young daughters in front of the cameras. Speaking to Matt Lauer in a “Today” interview this morning, Obama told Lauer that the days of granting media access to his children are over forever. “We won’t do it again,” he said.

I won’t go into a lengthy “I told you so” speech. I think Obama acknowledged his error when he said he and wife Michelle got “caught up in the moment”. Though I’m not sure how they got “caught up in the moment” when it was a pre-arranged interview. But whatever.

They like to have fun with their kids & celebrate things like any normal family. I dont find anything wrong with that or how his daughter spoke & carried themselves. You don’t have anything to say I told you so about. You didn’t say they shouldn’t have done the interview, you said Malia was grown. This is the problem I have with Barack. He doesn’t stand firm. He seems to change with the wind for no apparent reason. The interview was absolutely adorable and I enjoyed seeing his little ladies. Why is he apologizing? What did they do wrong? If he is elected I pray he isn’t this spineless in office.

As for keeping his kids out of the spotlight, that is not even realistic. He did it as long as he could, but at some point we were going to hear from the little ladies. Other than president Ford I am familiar with all of the children of all of the presidents in my lifetime because they have no choice, but to be in the media. Chelsea Clinton and Amy Carter were both children when their father’s were president and I don’t recall anyone thinking it was heinous child abuse to get an interview with them. Maybe the mainstream media is just pissed that Barack went with an entertainment show.

Once again I am disappointed in my baby daddy’s lack of backbone.

I think you said it right there! I didn’t think he was backpedalling or changing with the wind, he did what a parent does: whatever needs to be to protect your children. They are young and he doesn’t want them to be up for public scrutiny and ridicule!

Of course everyone blew the interview out of proportion. It was fun and innocent. I personally appreciated it because it gave us a glimpse into their family values and how they raise their children.

If he wants to protect them from the spotlight, he will have to drop out of the race and wait until they are grown before he runs again. He can’t protect them. I recall people being very critical of Chelsea’s looks when she was a child. What can you do? Idiots will be idiots. You can’t cowtow to them. Screw them and man up.

While I certainly thought it was strange not one single person said word one about the fact that Chelsea took a leave of absence from her ridiculously high paying job to join her mother’s campaign at a point when she had no chance of catching up to Barack. So why are they complaining that Barack’s cuties did one interview in 18 months of campaigning?

Too bad he crumbled to the pressure. He’s being a people pleaser like all candidates. Dont want to piss off anyone before the election. It’s all rather silly, yet that’s politics for you. Folks complained about him granting an entertainment program access to his children, yet as someone on this very blog mentioned the bush daughters were boozing it up and whoring it out without that same access. Meaning you’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t (on so many different levels). If he doesn’t grant access people will say he’s over protective, non relateable as they said he was during the primaries. Hilary was shown drinking beer with prospective voters…It was easier to relate to her so they said. Here this man opened his home to let us have a glimpse at not just the candidate, but also his family and he’s shunned for it. You can’t win over everybody, which is why he should have stood firm by his first decision…

Shoot if he had come over here or even to the CNN blog I read last night, he would not have back peddled. America had his back on this. All of the comments on Sandra Rose were supportive of Barack and his family. Not one single comment was in agreement with Sandra. CNN has way too many comments, but the dozens that I did read were also supportive. The only dissenters were people who said, “why is this news?” or “his family might be sweet but he so and so and so,” pertaining to his stance on issues or his former drug use or whatever. As a matter of fact Sandra is the only person out of hundreds of comments that I read and news stories I watched that had anything negative to say about the children.

Bird, I think this time Obama was expressing regret and not necessarily apoligizing to anyone. During an interview a while back, Obama made is very clear that his family was off limits when he said, “… they can say whatever they want to say about me, about my track record. If they think they are going to try to make Michelle an issue in the campaigne – they should be careful, because that I find unacceptable. The notion that you start attacking my wife or my family…”. I’m a freaking idiot man. I just noticed that John McCain ad on this post. Either Sandra put it there on her own becasue she is a McCain supporter or the McCain campaign has paid for ad space on Sandra’s site. Either way, the impartial Obama posts that we used to get on this site are a thing of the past.

I was tempted to write to the Obama campaign and tell them about the ad on this black site and let them know they should have their own ad, but since the vast majority of Sandra’s readers appear to be Obama supporters it would be a waste of money form him to pay for ad space here. It’s also a waste of time for from McCain as far as my vote is concerned because my answer to the question in the ad is YES. That old white man belief that we are better than people who disagree with us is way out of pocket. They have some kind of mental block that makes them think that it will ever be possible to mend those relationships while looking down on the leaders of countries who disagree with us and refusing to even speak to them.

It wasn’t until after he dropped out that I threw my support behind Barack (he was always my baby daddy though). John McCain meet the SR family. Mainly black folks who come from all walks of life and entertained daily by the devil’s advocate auntie, Ms. Sandra Rose, who loves to throw things out in e-space to make us have sometimes serious and sometimes playful conversations.

SR Family meet Mr. John McCain:
In 2000: He ran against Bush tax cuts, now he is for making them permanent.
In 2005: He wrote an immigration bill with Kennedy, now he won’t vote for his own bill.
He publicly came out against torture, but in Feb 2008 voted against the torture ban.
In 2000 he was ambivalent about abortion by making comments it should be a state matter, but now he’s against it.
He was for public finance reform, but has broken existing laws on it during this campaign.
He voted against healthcare for children.
He publicly said he doesn’t know much about the economy and his proposed plan is the same as Bush’s. Same thing with healthcare, he proposes no changes.
He has the lowest record from veteran affairs because he repeatedly votes against their benefits — he won’t even support the new bipartisan GI-bill, yet publicly described the new bill in detail as things he is for (he does that alot, says he is for this and that, but actually votes against it).
He got a lot of attention for his anti-lobbyist stances, yet he has more lobbyists on his campaign then all the other candidates that have run in this race on both sides combined
He has an awful temper has literally attacked associates verbally and physically.
He has called asians g**ks in public.
He has made statements about being in Iraq for 100 years, sang little songs like Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran.
He once said that christian evangelists were agents of intolerance, now he’s sought after endorsements from people like Rev Hagee and Rev Parsley who speak so much hate it’s unreal — saying things like America was founded as a Christian Nation to wipe out Islam. I’d say during a time of war with predominantly muslim countries is a pretty scary security threat considering his pro-war and anti-diplomacy tactics.
I could go on and on. Everything he once stood for that got him the title of ‘maverick’, he’s now against. So whether you liked him as the liberal republican or the conservative cow-toe he is today, no one likes a crazy mean, flip-flopper.

I have been disagreeing with Sandra vehemently for over two years and even boycotted the site for several months a year or so ago because of the intense hatred and she has never cut me off. I’m not worried about that. As crazy as we like to think Sandra is I am not aware she has ever banned anyone for disagreeing with her. When she opened registration a couple of months ago there were a whole bunch of ignorant comments for a while, but as you can now see ALL of those people have been cut off. That is why I know she is not dumb. I think what Smoke said is true. Break Sandra off on some dough and she will like you. I remeber Jay Z had an add on this site and Sandra posted positive stories on him during that time and we know she doesn’t like Jay.

My words are sincere. I would be severely traumatized if I was insulted repeatedly by a group of people that I respected even if I deserved it. I just wanted to let Sandra know its all love and she already knows beyond the shadow of a doubt that this is my favorite blog. That’s real.

See that’s what I mean. Her comments about Miss Malia were waaaaaay out of line and likely done because of McCain ad money. We ripped her to shreds over it and now she has been ripped on a national level. She deserved it. She really did. Does that make me feel good about how that would effect her emotionally? No. I have NEVER liked Gyant on SOHH, but when Sandra tore into him I felt horrible even though he damn sure deserved it.

My hope is that Sandra will learn that just because people pay her for ads doesn’t mean she needs to kiss their a$$es and go overboard.

CNN wow! I still believe or know President Barack Obama will make the best decisions at the end, I also feel he only apologized because as a parent your #1 concern is to protect your children, and since you cant win for losing he will not be putting them under scrutiny again.

I do not at all feel Malia was too grown. However, I do firmly believe some of the things Sandra says are just to get us talking. It works. We discuss issues we never would face to face. We are all protected by this blog. For that I thank Sandra but in no way do I agree with her comments about Malia.

Wow! After Bird, I really don’t have anything to add to this discussion. It makes me proud beyond measure to see so many intelligent black women voicing their views. To me; You ladies represent the best. Sandra should be praised if just for providing such a medium for us.

i agree with the majority. although i don’t agree with him apologizing for anything , i can certainly understand that he wants to protect his kids from this type of foolishness. for the life of me i can’t understand how a cute interview turned into this mess.
