Riahnna Covers InStyle magazine
Is there a magazine cover that Rihanna hasn’t graced yet in 2008? Congrats to our girl for snagging the cover of the August ‘08 issue of InStyle magazine! In the issue, Rihanna talks about stripping nude for Playboy, saying, “I am only 20 so my mother would kill me if I posed nude!
“When I did that metallic body paint stuff for my video, I didn’t do it to show my body. “I didn’t do it for people to like me. I did it because it was a cool visual, unexpected, and it looked hot.”
But RiRi slipped up when she mistakenly referred to herself as a fashion icon. RiRi said, “I have done a lot of photo shoots for magazines but it’s always great to be shot for a cover because you know that you are looked at as a fashion icon.”
Unfortunately, Rihanna hasn’t attained that status yet. Fashion icon status is bestowed upon those who take fashion risks while influencing the current style and trends of their generation. Being a fashion icon means firing your stylist and disorganizing your closet.
Rihanna’s generation already has a fashion icon. That would be Zoe Kravitz whose eclectic, Afrocentric style of dress has influenced others to buck the current trends and make the world their closet!

Zoe is not a fashion icon, she is a I shopped at goodwill and put all the clothes in my closet and woke up and got dressed in the dark.

Zoe Kravitz is not a style icon, dirtball icon maybe. I never knew that is was fashionable to rock dirty clothes, with visible dirt rash all over your body.
I think she looks nice in the bathing suit and I love the hairstyle. I dont think she is an ICON of any kind. We could go to the Village and get those dominatrics outfits.

Sandra, I need you to stop stanning for Zoe Kravitz so hard. Rihanna is a hair-fashion icon, I know so many people who have attempted (few successfully) to copy her haircuts and such.
Anyways, she’s one of few women of color to have graced the cover, and I daresay one of the youngest (if not the youngest) to grace the cover of the magazine in it’s 11 year history. I hate RhiRhi posts as much as anyone else, but you could have highlighted this fact instead of the hater route you took.
SHE has not been on the cover of ESSENCE. Zoe? Fashion Icon?…this is Sandra’s idea of the never ending joke.

Sandra I tend to disagree with you. Firstly, what did Rihanna do to you to make you do a 360 on her? I would say she is DEF a fashion icon…got everyone cutting their hair, wearing red lipstick, and wearing rock style clothing.

I like Ri Ri style an icon naw but can definitely reach that status. And really it’s her styles it’s her stylist who chooses a lot of what she wears.
She is not a fashion icon. Let’s talk fashion icons: Jackie Onassis, Rita Hayward, Lena Horne, Madonna, Janet, Cyndi Lauper, Naomi, Iman, Marlene Dietrich, Celia Cruz. There are so many. They earned their spots and influenced generations and fashion houses. Rihanna does not. She is up on fads. There are thousands of real black rock chicks who been dressing like that for decades. This broad is contrived and manufactured and swagger jacked Demi, Halle and Toni Braxton’s style.

C’mon Sandra don’t twist RiRi’s words. She knows she’s not a fashion icon, but she is right — a lot of folks, especially young girls, look at celebs who appear on the cover of magazines as fashion icons. That’s what she meant.
