Video: Obama Launches ‘Truth Squad’ to Monitor TV Ads

Last week, presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama launched a ‘Truth Squad’ in Missouri asking Missouri law enforcement to target anyone who lies or runs a misleading TV ad during the presidential campaign.”
When I saw this video last week on The Huffington Post, I thought it was a joke. I assumed it was an SNL type parody and I kept waiting for the punch line — only, it never came.
In an earlier post, I told you that Obama’s camp reached out to TV stations in Ohio and Pennsylvania to block the airing of a National Rifle Association ad.
With this latest move, Obama takes us closer to an Orwellian society and gives new meaning to the words ‘BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU.’

me too smh. this is so crazy b.c it seems the closer we get to election day the more and more this is the forefront. not that it doesn’t NEED to be, or even if we remove the fact that this is indeed a very historic time. but this is just….pointless to me. the attacks, the barbs.
b/c this man is so focused on the issues it is not even funny. and it seems as if all of the good ones who look at the matters at hand (the democratic presidents and nominees) never got their total shine.

Usually the truth doesn’t need defending. But in the world where lies and halftruths are running rapid throughout the media, I think Obama is being SMART by taking an active roll in making sure the truth about him is delivered to the people. We clearly can’t depend on Fox, CBS, NBC, ABC or even the BBC to stay focussed on the real issues. What bothers me most Sandra, is that McCain literally GIVES the media things that should be exposed, i.e. - the man said that he would FREEZE SPENDING excluding funding the war and V.A. (and something else war related) due to this proposed bailout. Why not post and discuss such topics instead of all the hate and fear mongering? I understand this is your blog and all, but to be frank, the difference between the lobbyist media and this site is starting to fade.
I came to this site for entertainment, we should not influence our decisions on what SR writes, I just scroll past these election posts, a blog is not where I go to get my information on politics.

My perception of the ads is that they are true but not favorable to the opinion that obama wants for himself so he is trying to censor them and those who would put them out there. Perhaps not 100% Orwellian but where still unethical

I don’t know about Obama, but CNN already has a truth segment. Everyday they research claims made by each campaign against the other. McCain’s campaign tells the most outright lies, both campaigns have their fair share of “kinda truths” or true but misleading and Obama is more likely to be completely truthful in his ads.
WOW, you know I like Obama, but when he first came out there was something about him that rubbed me the wrong way…antichrist (well, I just don’t know). Read the Bible in Daniel Chapter 7 and Revelation….before I get too serious I will add a little humor…what if CHANGE stood for Come Help A Negro Get Elected??????Please laugh and don’t get upset. Happiness and love is the key.

like lovezoe, I too view this site mainly for entertainment. It’s the “one-sidedness” thats bothersome. To be fair, at least Sandra incites us to open discussions. We’re all intelligent adults that clearly don’t just take people at their word. I for one find that reason enough to visit SR regularly.

I think the frustrating part about it for some of us is you only give half of the story and not the whole thing. Like I said, you are welcome to be as bias as you want on your site, but you know what kind of reaction you’re gonna get when you put this mess up.
