Obama’s Mother-in-Law Moving into the White House?
On Greta’s blog today, a reader asked what’s the deal with Obama’s mother-in-law moving into the White House when Obama gets the keys from Bush on January 20.
I love Greta’s answer:
I think - if President elect and Mrs. Obama want this- it is a great idea for President Elect Obama’s mother-in-law to move to the White House. The job of President and First Lady is non stop…. 24/7… and if having another family member in the White House can help make it easier for the children and their parents, it is smart to do. Their family is going to be turned upside down in the next 4 years and to the extent it can be made easier, more “normal” and less pressure for them, the better it is for the country. By the way, it is common for family members to visit at the White House.
I totally agree. What’s the point in hiring a nanny when you can get the same service at a fraction of the cost by asking a family member to do it?

She should be able to move in. She watches the girls now. Why change that?
Obama’s mother in-law moving into the house is NOT that crucial it is very common in today society. So movin on………. to the next post.
@2: I totally agree with you. If you notice Sandra tried to make it about money. But you know what the Obama’s aren’t hurting at all for money. He is the President!!! Right Next Post!!!

I pay my mother to watch mines, and I dont have a problem with it, she is doing a hard job and NEEDS to compensated. Im at work making money, why not spread it? Again, Im just a Democrat………(redistribution of wealth) share the love!
Cut it out…. More Grandmothers need to be active in their grandchildren’s lives.
Girls and women need more support from their mothers. I am proud to see an African American family sticking together. I bet they never had to pay the Grandmother to spend time with HER grandchildren.. HER daughters children… whats wrong with this?…
@5 I agree!!! My mother watch my daughter and if you was to go anywhere else it would cost you some dollars why not give it to some one that’s doing you a favor for cheap and you trust

Studies have shown that children who grow up with their grandparents in addition to their parents, fare better in life.

@ Darnisha…FOX News audience is geared towards ignorant people. I used to watch FOX News but their topics and comments became one - sided. I saw the light when Bush P.S. revealed he gave them news to report on.

i don’t think it has anything to do with money. they want their children to be as normal as possible. grandma has been doing the job , so why wouldn’t she still do it now ? i would rather my mom have my kids in this situation than a stranger.
i’m sure if they had hired a nanny or two people would be giving them and their decision the side eye.

Sandra are you serious Greta said that, while it may be good for her to come and have extended says, I don’t think she should move in.
I have tried to not post any comments during the months leading up to the election since this is Sandra’s blog and she has a dislike for President-elect Obama. But this post rubs me the wrong way. The grandmother, who is a constant in the Obamas daily life, is the perfect person to come to the White House and assist in the rearing of the children. Mrs. Robinson has been caring for the girls when Michelle and Barack were both on the campaign trail. Next
none of that is gonna affect the deficit now is it?
i pure had to relocate BACK home to reconnect with what i call my “free childcare network”….
i got grown and a job offer and got there and realized…childcare ain’t no joke! and back then i only had ONE. yeah i can pay for “daycare” but what about care when i wanna get my nails/hair done? what about club care? what about “after work drinks” care? i have told my husband if we move away again we taking my momma, my oldest sister, and he better hope i don’t move HIS momma and daddy in. it takes a village.

I don’t think cost is the issue. I think the idea is to have someone around the children at all times who love them more than life itself. Their parents will be very busy over the next four years. They are blessed to have a loving grandmother to fill in the gap. Will and Jada do the same thing with Jada’s drop dead gorgeous mom. Grandma’s Rock!
CNN and The View reported (and I am paraphrasing here) that when Mrs. Robinson was asked about moving into the White House she stated that when would be visiting when she wanted or needed to, but she loved her house in Chicago too much to leave it and she could not imagine living in the White House because to her it would be too much like sleeping in a museum. She plans to split her time between the two. As far as a nanny goes, who in their right mind would want that (besides people who don’t mind someone else giving their children their values and morals). My mom has saved my life on more than one occasion when I was out of town on business and my husband was working, and the best thing about it was that she has always considered it a privilege to take care of her grandkids, as will I when that day comes (Lawd, please don’t make it too soon). As a single father, my brother still flies her in to this day (from MI to the ATL) to help with his daughter when he needs her - and while she may not take money from us for it, we more than make up for it every chance we can. She always brags about how everyday feels like Mother’s Day they way her kids take care of her. And she will do that for any of us. I’m sure Michelle’s mother does not consider herself as doing the job of a “nanny”, but rather spending time with and loving her grandbabies as any granny would. Why would anyone want to try to paint the Obama’s as cheap and thrifty “users” when we can all see that they are a family that loves one another immensely and shows affection in every way?
She won’t be the first mother-in-law to move into the White House. I believe Harry Turman mother -in-law lived in the White House. Wow so what if she moves in ***Next****

I think its beautiful to keep the family close..they are throwing these kids in an unknown world..their grandmother brings in a sense of normalcy..this is a wonderful idea
Duh total no brainer. Why would anyone in their conscious mind outside of the family oppose to that? Many times i believe people have things to say just because….
