Video: Wanda Sykes Comes Out Swinging
Of course we already knew comedian Wanda Sykes was a lesbian, but the rest of the world played catch up on Saturday when Sykes surprised organizers of a Prop 8 rally in Las vegas by coming out officially.
What I didn’t know was that Wanda married her lady friend on October 25th in a private ceremony.
So now Sykes is fighting mad because, as she puts it: “When my wife and I leave California, I want to have my marriage also recognized in Nevada, in Arizona, all the way to New York!”
Then Sykes goes on to compare a lifestyle choice with God’s natural selection and intelligent design of the sexes.
“Being gay is not a choice,” argues Sykes. “That’s like telling me I chose to be a woman, I chose to be black! Are we saying that if being gay is a choice… people are straight because they chose not to be gay?”
Of course Sykes’ argument is flawed since she chose to be married to a man once (they divorced in 1998).
No matter how natural she thinks being gay is, two women can’t have a baby without a man’s participation at some point along the way.
Until lesbians figure out how to eliminate men from the baby making process entirely, we will forever be dependent on them — and turkey basters.
Californians took a vote to oppose gay marriage. That’s how a democracy works. The people of California have spoken.
And nothing Wanda Sykes says is going to change their minds.

Marriage should always remain between a man and woman because in fact it was created from religious instuitions and the idea of a marriage was for a man and a woman to come together and have children and carry on their legacy, a man and a man cannot do that(naturally) so the religious institution of what marriage should be should remain the same.
I am all for civil unions for insurance purposes, inheritance purposes adoption purposes etc. but to try to change the wording of a religious perspective is blasphemous and silly. You dont need to be “married” to someone to justify your love, Gays should fight for something more important like dont ask dont tell, marriage they wont win
also the whole second class citizen, uh yeah right, go to a muslim country and talk about being a second class citizen all of them at the rally would have been JAILED!!!!!!!

I am not for “gay marriage” but I do think that the world should recognize this relationship as legal, if that makes sense. I grew up with people that we knew were gay in second grade so I have to argue that some people are born that way, I have seen gay animals so with all the chemicals in food, mutation of cells, and diformities I have to agree that a lot of individuals just do not choose to be that way. For the “try-sexuals” thats a whole other issue and I dont speak in regards to that, but I am glad Wanda spoke up for her beliefs, good for her. Also I dont think that her being married to a man contradicts her lifestyle, a lot of people battle with that for years and really attempt a life of normalcy, she is not the first.
Gays have the right to marry – Wanda proves that. Whuy don’t they just go through legal adoptions of each other for property purposes? That would solve the whole family relationship issue. Seems like too much money, time and energy being spent on a “trivial” verbage issue.
Even though I feel heterosexuals undermine the sanctity of marriage themselves, I would have to disagree with Wanda on the topic. It was created for a man and a woman by the definition.
And I would have to say that being gay is unnatural for the simple fact that in order for mankind to continue, a man AND a woman have to come together and reproduce. That is the natural way.
I’m not against gay couples, I’m all for live and let live, but please people don’t get it twisted.

I just don’t agree with gays who compare their movement to the Civil Rights movement….to me those are two different struggles. In my opinion, those are 2 movements that can’t even be compared. Blacks were not able to do many things in this country that for example, a white gay person can do. And thats all I will say about the matter.

okay i was typing and got interrupted. i have alot of gay friends. couples, single gay folk, etc. if they want to be married it is just my job as their friend to be supportive. not to be critical and spew my own personal belief upon them. i try to be embracing of all.
and personally i think you are born gay. again i use my homie i came up with as an example. we knew he was gay when he was 4-5 and me and his sister were 7. we just knew. and so did everybody else. when he came out…it was again a “no shyt sherlock” moment for us all.

I guess my issue with it all is that marriage is a mindset. If my husband divorced me tomorrow but still treated me the same as he does now the word marriage would make no difference to me because I know he loves and appreciates me the same as he would with the paper. If you love each other, are committed, monogamus, form a family… you are married. Why do you society to recognize that for you?

This is a very serious subject. You could hate it or love it. I for one do not believe that people are born gay. I do believe it’s a choice. God doesn’t make mistakes. He gives us our own minds to make sound judgment and choices in our lives. I do understand that there are various religious beliefs and everyone will have their opinion on so many things that plauge our lives daily. I don’t know the BIBLE (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth)as well as I’d like to debate on this issue. I do know that marriage is made for a man and a woman, without a doubt. God is not pleased with the way “man” has removed him from almost all aspects of our daily lives. Congress want to take “In God We Trust” off of our money. He’s been removed from our schools and the list goes on and on. Now this- gay men and women wanting the same rights as heterosexuals.

@ mspeng. In some states, like GA, adultery actually is illegal as well. My dad found that little detail out the hard way. You’d be surprised at what laws are out there that aren’t always upheld.
Maema polygamy was accepted in the Old Testament. When Christ was asked about it, he spoke against it. That was the difference between the law and the blood.

Keep your religious beliefs out of the lives of others. Having a wedding in a church does not make that marriage legal. Your church/religion has no say on what the state recognizes as a marriage, so your church/religious views should not be considered when it comes to 2 consenting tax paying adults.

What about the babies who are born that are not considered “normal or healthy”. When you try to ask ppl that question(GOD does not make mistakes) the answer is different than that of those not on the equal rights for gays/lesbian side.

That is the whole point. Am I going to be judged when my time comes because I did not care if same sex marriages existed and I did not voice my opinion of how wrong it is. Wrong for who? This is a no win situation and I say if it does not apply to you find something else worth getting your blood pressue up for.

This is one of those subjects that I just don’t have the energy and brain cells to discuss. I know that the bible has so many interpretations, it’s almost stupid to even try to use it to justify your belief.
However, I am a strong believer of “common sense”.
You have a woman that’s with a man. She sleeps with him, have sex with him, have babies with him, and never marries. Then she meets another man, have babies with him, never marries.
You have a woman with a woman. She sleeps with her, have sex with her, adopt/surrgate children with her, and wants to get married.

I really think that everyone involved in the discussion specific to Prop 8 should read up on the facts. Noone is denying a right. Supporters of Prop 8 were asserting theirs. Civil Unions are still in full effect. IMO noone has the right to protest, criticize or attempt to intimidate me for expressing my belief and relationship with GOD. Live and let Live, from both sides.
I respect everyone, but I ain’t going to hell for NOBODY. And for those that don’t believe in the bible…there really is no discussion to have.
