Greg Street, a local radio DJ for a popular Atlanta urban station staged an inflammatory publicity stunt involving violence against a prominent local businessman on the popular social networking/micro blogging site Twitter.com.

Street, who has fallen behind in the ratings to Hot 107.9’s Durrty Boyz Show, took to Twitter yesterday afternoon to announce that events promoter Alex Gidewon, of AG Entertainment, was bitch slapped by T.I.’s manager, Clay Evans, during a dispute at the Velvet Room nightclub where T.I. held his official after party for his farewell concert on Sunday night.

Street wrote:

@djgregstreet 6 o’clock News Reports: Clay Evans (TI’s road manager) slapped Alex aka AG Ent last night at Velvet Room.

Not only was the statement untrue and reckless, but Street’s odd stunt involved two local businessmen (Gidewon and Evans) who contribute directly to his employer’s bottom line.

Street’s perplexing behavior comes at a time when most radio stations across the country are reeling from the effects of the recession and making deep cuts to their staff. Street’s stunt was even more puzzling in light of the fact that Gidewon is one of V-103’s most prominent sponsors, contributing more in advertising revenue annually to the station than corporate giants such as Coca Cola.

Gidewon reacted swiftly to Street’s shocking allegation by reaching out to V-103 station management last night and threatening to pull his advertising from the station unless there was an equally public retraction from Greg Street on the air today.

Sources believe that DJ Greg Street fabricated the rumor about Gidewon in retaliation for Gidewon’s refusal to hold a mixtape release party last year at the Velvet Room for Street’s mixtape Sertified Worldwide, which Street released independently after Interscope Records refused to promote the project.

Street was also involved in a very public spat with music mogul Jermaine Dupri that led to Dupri quitting his Saturday night mix show on V-103. Polow Da Don also allegedly dropped Street from his Zone 4 Records label.

Street managed a half assed apology to Gidewon and Evans last night on Twitter, but it might be too little too late:
