Her name is Dawn Ostroff, and she is President of Entertainment for the CW Network. Apparently Ostroff knows a thing or two about quality because she rid the CW network of two shows that never really should have seen the light of day: The Game and Eve.

Complain if you must, but it really is sad that we as a black community always tend to settle for less than the very best for ourselves.

Now the challenge is on for an urban production company to pitch a quality black TV show to the networks that we can all watch with pride and without cringing.

Thank God for syndication, TV Land and YouTube where we can watch reruns of Girlfriends, Half & Half, Martin, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Family Matters, Moesha, Good Times, etc.

  • pointhimout

Sandra why am I convinced you couldn't wait to post this story? Eve was a horrible show, very much so. I guess Tyler better thank the God's for TBS cuz none of that ish would've rcvd the greenlight had it been on a real network.

I half way agree with SR that we do settle for crap and call it comedy. You would never see tyler or many of our other shows on an nbc or abc. I do feel the game was moved around a bit, which is always the kiss of death for a tv show.

The Game is a step above meet the browns and house of payne; any reason tyler wont pick it up? at least he'll have some credible actors finally, and not a crock of stage play bafoons.

  • ladyrazor

Ugh!!! White Bissh...I'm so pissed. I see we need to work on getting blacks in those higher titles in some of these networks because this shyt is so not coo.

  • Daisy

    Morning Fam!

Shunda If you are lurking and reading I am so MADDDDDD at your CAVS!!!!!!

I feel the Game is way more than a step above Tylers show. There is always room for improvement with any and ALL shows.

Does anybody watch the only black drama on TV Lincoln Heights? It comes on ABC Family.

I hope everybody watches Jada's new show on TNT next mth.

Tyler is trying his hand at another show feat. Charles S. Dutton playing a Pastor. I use to love the tv show Roc.

  • Coo Coo Bananas

Looking at the Family Matters reruns now, that show was stupid as hell and Steve Urkel was a d*ckhead.

  • Alana

I agree that Eve's show should have never seen the light of day but "The Game" was a good show. It had it's slow moments but I still enjoyed it. It's sad that the only shows it seems like now when you see black people are the reality mess/trainwrecks that come on VH1.

  • iscream

*Sigh* why do you have to say we "settle". I don't eve get how that statement goes with what happened. We did as much as we could do. We watched, we signed petitions, we made calls to the network. You didn't watch the show so you are making blind judgements about the quality of it.

You mentioned Fresh Prince which shocks me. You do remember they replaced dark skin aunt Viv for Lightskin Aunt Viv.

RIP to The Game. I wish people with power and money would create a place for black sitcoms to thrive(Oprah). Every other race have their own channel. & nobody better not dare say BET. TV1 is okay but thet don't have black sitcoms. (or come on bootleg cablevision)

  • starr

    I actually agree w/ sandra.

I think we want to support black entertainment so bad that we won't acknowledge the quality of our shows. Maybe its because i'm not a TV person to begin, but the quality of black shows premiering on tv have been horrible. I"m sorry i don't care who's in it or the story line, bad actign is bad acting

  • starr

    @ Isc

I had heard that darkskin aunt viv was sick or somthing like that....idk It was a good show though.

  • bcsmiamic

she was preg and didnt know it.

  • LadyJustice

that TRICK!!! somebody need to go roll toilet paper on her house and egg her car.

  • anti-PC

I liked Eve, but Half and Half is another story. I couldn't stand that show. I only tolerated it because of Dee, the rich snobby wife-- she was hilarioous!

  • Daisy

@Starr I believe it may be because you are not a TV person. I am a walking TV guide..lol We dont have many black shows prem. every other week to compare and say they are all good or bad. We have a few sprinkled here and there every couple of seasons. I do agree bad acting is bad acting no matter what color you are. YT have wack shows that remain on air forever.

@Ice I don't think TV1 has money to do series programming sad but true. I think Kathy is doing the best she can with what she has. Her voice IRKS me by the way.

I will go on record and say I enjoyed Eve's show for what it was..lol I do wish we had more black DRAMAs on TV as well as comedies. Can we be more than funny on TV?

  • iscream

& can we please stop acting like yt don't have bad tv shows. There are just so many yt shows on they are allowed to fall thru the cracks.

  • luvly1957

    @ Daisy
I love Lincoln Heights when does the new seanson start? I also liked Eve even though it was corny but I liked the heavy set chick she had her funny moments but the men were kind of corny.

I agree TV1 tries to do sitcom but they don't have the money so they get the reruns of cancelled shows.

RIP to The Game I will miss it!!!

  • melinla

    Morning Ya'll

@luvly1957 & Daisy - I like Lincoln heights too. I don't know if/when the new season is - the actor that plays the father has a role on In Treatment on HBO, so...

Anyway that show was age appropriate for my 13 year old and gave us something to watch together that we could both be into. ABC Family has a lot of shows like that...

    I'm gonna miss The Game....

  • Daisy

As far as I know Lincoln Heights will be back for a 4th season not sure when.

I am waiting on my summer shows to start next month The Closer and Army wives and now I will add Jades new show to my list.

Anybody ever watch PlayMakers on ESPN? Now that was a real deal football show. So real the NFL had it cancelled..lol

@Ice AMEN AMEN and AMEN thats what I been trying to say since yesterday about YT shows.

  • lovejoy1

I like both Eve and the game.its good to see some black faces on TV erry now and then. They need to remove mr brown show and Tyler Perry other show (whats the name of it again?) any ways both shows get a Yawn.....

  • licia

am i the only one who liked eve's show ? i like the game and i hate that it's canceled. everything went downhill when the show got moved to the CW.

  • missmiami

    I totally agree!

  • MIZZ.I_REP_ATL

Ugh! Crazy Bish! You just did the most stupidiest thing eva. "The Game" was probably one of the best urban sitcoms out besides all these (crazy) reality shows.

    @Sandra...
And do you really consider "Moesha" and "Half&Half" a "quality black TV show?" Whateva! U might as well add Eve (which was a hot mess 2) to that list as well.

@Daisy: "Does anybody watch the only black drama on TV Lincoln Heights? It comes on ABC Family." -I tried to get into that but I couldn't, but I hear alot of good reviews about it.

  • pointhimout

#13 yt does have plenty of horrible shows, and they also cancel some shows that deserve a longer chance because the show really is good. too many to list or name, black and white.

i think many times black people just wanna see ourselves on tv, no matter the quality or the purpose of the show. the other post about neffe and frankie...people will say how much the show disgusts them, yet will tune in and watch it. personally, i wont. i stopped tuning into keyshia's show cuz i was embarrassed for her; the way her mom and sister (please stop that damn crying) acted, etc. that's the stuff i'm talking about. lincoln heights...never heard of it, so of course i've never seen it. i'll google it though.

  • flyqtnva

    DAMN DAMN DAMN!!!!!!

  • pointhimout

just admit that black shows are sub-par. they just are. i really dont believe half the black shows that do get the greenlight would ever see the light of day, or anything past 6 episodes if they were on abc nbc cbs. it's one thing to get on the cw or whatever other station and ya show is the shyt, hands down. silly doesn't make for comedy. i understand needing a paycheck, but ya name is attached to that shyt also.

moesha was decent. the parkers was the ridiculous show, imo. half and half, moments, but i'll pass. telma hopkins and big dee dee kept that one going--veterans. maybe it's just us, cuz truth be told, I watch A Different World sometimes and say to myself "self, wtf am I watching this, or why did I like this show?" it too had it's moments though and classic episodes. the wedding, tisha campbell aids episode and quite a few others, so yeah, i'd continue to watch overall.

  • flyqtnva

The Game was a good quality show IMO....I just dont understand why they would cancel it...IDK EVE show was okay sometimes. But all I can say right now is DAMN DAMN DAMN!

  • Lala11_7

    OH...HOLD ON ONE MINUTE!!!

Now...I am all about QUALITY when it comes to scripts and writing...and I'm sorry...every Kelsey Grammer produced "Black" show that I've seen "Girlfriends" and "The Game" has been TOP NOTCHED!!! And I mean...OVER ALL!!! There has NEVER been an OUNCE of "coonery", under developed characters, cheap sets, bad wardrobe makeup, NONE OF THAT!!!

But then...I see what you deem as "acceptable" politically...so I'm acutally not surprised at this blog Auntie...

  • flyqtnva

    @pointhimout
A Diff world did shows based off real black issues so come on now...dont front....Cosby show was the sh@t...MARTIN....Fresh Prince...all I'm saying is a year from now a show will come out with an all white cast and it will be just like THE GAME and it will take OFF!! Mark my words.

  • flyqtnva

    Lala11_7

GIRL YOU BETTA GO!!! I'm riding with you...the show was EXCELLANT...DAMN DAMN DAMN

  • Shauny

I'm not even going to start in on this post. RIP The Game. So now how many black shows do we have on tv...mmmk

How many HORRIBLE and subpar white shows do we have with bad plots and actors...yeah o.k

  • Daisy

@lala Tasha Mack can be a tad bit G Fab and after all these years it wasnt called for. I wanted them to mellow her out just a tad. I will miss her and the Game though.:-(

@Point and why do you think we dont have any black shows on ABC, CBS, NBC? Kelsey could have taken the Game or Gfriends to NBC but they dont care what we want to see on TV. The Game was not sub par neither was Gfriends. Again YT have WACK silly shows on for years and they are called sitcoms. I dont think its for lack of good actors or shows they just dont want to put any time and money into them because they feel they wont make them money. I am waiting on Shonda Rhimes to create more shows ABC seems to like her after 2 hit shows. Greys would be just as good with an all black cast but it wouldnt be as "popular" so they would have cancelled it.

Speaking of Different World since the new thing now is to bring back an old TV show I saw bring that one back with some of the old cast and get some new students and keep it moving. They had positive messages.

  • carmelita79

amazing how SR can comment when she only watched one show. the network is a hot mess they want have a white washed station thats fine. the game will be missed it was a good show it got ratings. 7th heaven was on its last leg and everyone tuned in for the finale and it was renewed so please with this settle for less crap. speak for yourself

  • Shauny

Tasha was G fab BUT realistic. She was a single mother from the hood who raised and groomed her son into a professional athelete AND managed him. She knew how and when to act G fab and when to be a professional. I think she was realistic too.

Please tell me again what was sub par about The Game and why it wasn't quality tv? Please?

  • precious1

Was I the only one who did not like Fresh Prince. Will urked teh hell out of me with his goofyness. I think he tried too hard.

  • Daisy

@Shauny she was not always prof. she was hood and G Fab at times with the men she dated as well and that was not a good look either. She was classy at times and dressed her butt off but I always wanted them to mellow her out. She was the sterotypical loud black woman at times and that irked me to know end. Sorry..lol

  • iscream

    I hated the show Friends..

  • ReadTheBlog

    Typical blue eyed devil

  • daninicole

Dayum point! A different world wasn't great to you? I am all for doing better but give me an example! You did at least like the Cosby Show right?

  • http://myspace.com/thegameoncw Bird

I'm on to you Miss Sandra. Since you already told us that you have only watched one episode of The Game I know you wrote this blog with tongue firmly in cheek. Good looking out. Thanks for the great big picture of Dawn the Devil. I'm going to post it in the latest blog on the MySpace page.
