FanMAIL: Solange’s hair cut makes her look less than a woman

Earlier today I posted one man’s perspective (Bow Wow) on Solange’s stark, blunt natural haircut. Now here’s another man’s perspective from loyal reader Rodney Jenkins.

Short hair works for young women if she’s a banger or has distinctive facial features. It ain’t working for her. She has a completely different look. As a man, when I now look at her. I just think less. She looks less attractive, less sexy, less fun, less interesting…… I am stunned that hair can do that much for a woman. Hair (and makeup) can really make some average looking women into stars. I see why the Muslims require their women to cover their hair. She is very lucky that Beyonce is her sister. Maybe it will grow on us. If she likes it, I love it.

I totally agree with Rodney. Solange has every right to express herself any way she pleases. But she has to remember that she’s a C-list celebrity in an image-driven business — and her fans have spoken. It doesn’t take much for her fans to relegate her to D-list or even F-list status. Being Beyonce’s sister can only take her so far. Solo should at least shape the edges up a little bit.

Won’t it be funny if this new haircut is actually a lace front?

    ^^LOL
I do agree with you on this one Sandra. I think even if she lined it up properly and rocked it well, she might get away with it…with some big earrings. being ‘natural’ is one thing, but not everything is flattering.

I don’t think anyone would purposely have a lace front like this.
As for the letter I’ve always been told that short hair is for the more mature women because long hair tends to pull us down.

    @iscream

You would think that since he was Sandra’s family she’d do a profile on him. I read Invinsible Life in 9th grade (yes I thought I was grown) & i think E. Lynn Harris did plenty for black women by exposing the truth of DL lifestyles to this generation, before DL became a buzzword.

When all the lights are gone, and everything is all said and done, Solo has deal with herself. I don’t like the cut, but i get sooo offended when i hear people disrespect her cut. I applaud her for doing what she wants to do, and not caring what people think. Her real fans won’t care what her hair looks like.

This hair cut thing has reveal alot about US…..for reals

I don’t think it looks that bad but I also don’t care much about Solo. Jules is a cutie pie though!

I was waiting on part II of his last book. I loved E Lynn’s work and yes he blew the top off the DL situation long before JL King was on Oprah!

Hello All. Wow, E Lynn dead? Wow, I missed that one. I read his first two books and then I was kinda turned off. He believed that EVERY man has the potential of being gay. Perhaps some truth to this but most straight men don’t act on it, others do. I think most people have fantasized about sex with the same sex at least once in their lives, or in their dreams. I could be wrong but I”m just saying. R.I.P. E.Lynn, R.I.P. 53 years old, so young, so young.

I never heard him say that and I have read ALL his book. I have heard and read interviews he did as well :waiting:

@ Mizz & anyone who saw it.

I don’t know about you. But as a Wendy supporter for the past 17 years. Yes, since I was 14 years old. I was highly offended that she waited till the last minute of her show to announce that she was leaving.

I’m sorry but her fans deserved more than that. She spent more time talking about this topic than she did the real issue at hand. I guess Whitney agreed to do her show.

@PAHairston I was grossed out at his first book and never read any more of his books. What did he die from? I had no idea that he passed away.

i think they sit on twitter with nothing else to do but dare each other. now we’re subjected to read and hear about it as if it’s really important. when albums aren’t selling and your attitude sucks, one must do something to be talked about as if they had talent.

im still mad this chick came outta nowhere with her first failed album years ago. right at the peak of DC, I guess it only made sense to throw her from background dancer to solo singer.
