FanMAIL: Why is Obama Hatin’ On Michael Jackson?

Blogger Waset (a self-proclaimed truth seeker, writer and part security guard), wrote a thought-provoking piece about Barack Obama and his failure to pay proper tribute to Michael Jackson at a time when everyone else in the world tripped over each other to honor the great one.

Me thinks Waset forgets that narcissists like Obama hate to give any shine to another famous figure, even in death. Too bad Michael Jackson wasn’t a terrorist.

Waset’s post is very lengthy (and hilarious) so I’m providing a couple of excepts and you can go here to read the rest.

CNN found themselves on the red carpet [at the BET Awards] reporting live before the show began. I know right? If you had asked somebody a month ago what it would take for CNN to actually broadcast from the BET Awards, that person would have laughed, bent their wrist forward and said, “Chile, Michael Jackson would have to die for that to happen.”

And what about the President of the United States – Barack Obama? What the fu*k was that *****’s excuse? Yeah, I said it. The most famous person in the entire world died and he couldn’t even utter two words about it. Meanwhile, people cried rivers of tears throughout the world.

“Mr. President, you couldn’t recognize an American treasure? I thought you were the leader of the free world? He’s not coming back either dude, it was a now or never moment and you blew billions of us off. Whether you like him or you don’t is irrelevant. The relevancy lies in the fact that so many people cared about him and his contributions to the world. The fact that a multitude of other world leaders publicly recognized Michael Jackson’s passing; while you let your Press Secretary, Robert Gibbs, parrot some rather unflattering commentary that you made under what seemed like duress is an outrage. Not only did you fail to follow the most basic rule of PROTOCOL, you managed to break the whole code. Please turn in your badge at the front desk because you’re feeling real BET to me right now. Your Black is wack. Michael Jackson was my civil rights movement, but clearly you don’t get it. Maybe you’re waiting for somebody more famous than Michael Jackson to die before you address your subjects, followers and constituency? Oh wait, there is no one more famous than Michael Jackson.” –WASET

For those who believe Obama didn’t have 10 or 20 seconds in his busy day to address the world in regards to the King of Pop, he was on CNN for 34 minutes the day after Mike died.

    SunnyPA says:

In an AP interview today, President Barack Obama called the late entertainer a brilliant performer, while also addressing the star’s troubled personal life:

“I’m glad to see that he is being remembered primarily for the great joy that he brought to a lot of people through his extraordinary gifts as an entertainer,” he told the AP. “I think that Michael Jackson will go down in history as one of our greatest entertainers. His brilliance as a performance also was paired with a tragic and in many ways, sad personal life.”

Obama said he grew up on Jackson’s music — “I still have all his stuff on my iPod.” As for the any criticism from the black community arguing that he should have spoken out sooner, the President (who did write a private letter to the Jackson family soon after the superstar’s death) downplayed the potential controversy.

“I know a lot of people in the black community, and I haven’t heard that,” Obama said.

If Obama would’ve said a public statement Sandra would’ve complained about him wasting his time talking about a celebrity when there are so many other things going on in the world. He sends a personal condolence and is still chitted on.

    iscream says:

I bet if Big Hip Beyonce kicked the bucket he would’ve said something.

He has spoken on shyt less important than this. I guess Michael didn’t endorse his campaign.

& Sandra him not saying anything is just as bad as you reporting about his mother shopping like she was doing something wrong.

I guess some people are upset they weren’t invited into his bed. If you don’t understand it cool. But don’t make it out to be something it wasn’t.

I am a Obama supporter but like any President you support, you are not going to agree with everything decision they make. I must say his lack of attention towards this matter is frowned upon. The British, French, and other leaders have all made statements and sent condolences. But his own leader does not think his passing is something he needs to comment on. Shame on you Obama!

    Nina says:

I agree Obama should have released a statement the first few days it happened. A personal note to the family is fine, but in addition to a public statement. Michael touched alot of lives and talking a week later isn’t cool in my book. Doesn’t he have some type of newly created Director of Music Culture or something…shame on both of them.

    @ Daisy

I don’t know what you’re damning for. Just because I don’t feel the same way as you do on the matter? I feel he could’ve said a few words to the public. The world is mourning a star born & raised in the US. & the President can’t release an offical statement to us… as I said. MJ must not have supported his campaign.

I remember when Princess Diana died the Queen was heavily criticized and did end up saying something. & Diana was Family to her.

I’m probably the biggest MJ fan on here…(I was born in the mid 80′s when Michael Jackson was king….and I don’t think one day has passed without me listening to some MJ)…

    BUT REALLY????

People are so sensitive. Let the president handle politics. He can mourn in private like many of us do.
