John Mayer Wants His Ghetto Pass Back

Singer John Mayer stirred up a hornet’s nest when he dropped the ‘N’ word and referred to his penis as a white supremacist in a Playboy magazine interview that reads like a publicity stunt gone wrong. The attention whore apologized on Twitter.com today, saying:

“I am sorry that I used the word. And it’s such a shame that I did because the point I was trying to make was in the exact opposite spirit of the word itself.”

Mayer added, “It was arrogant of me to think I could intellectualize using it, because I realize that there’s no intellectualizing a word that is so emotionally charged.” Read More…

Whatever dude.

@topic I dont care who John is or isnt attracted to he just could have SAID it better IMO. His comments were tacky and classless.

@Mskay would you be offended if your boss called you the N word 2morrow at work?

  12. 12

@ Daisy, I would be hurt only because he should know me better than that. I have worked for him for almost 6 years and I don’t act like a “n” word which was used to mean ignorant and lazy, which I’m neither.

@Daisy I would have to agree it was an epic fail at him trying to be deep.
What baffles me even more is why was he even asked those particular questions. Maybe I missed the memo but when did black people start checking for John Mayer? I like a couple of his songs but to the extent they were making seem like black women are hanging out side his hotel room.

I read the interview and I don’t think he was being racist. I think he was trying to empathize a bit and be witty during the interview. As far as his peen preferences, I couldn’t care less. He is no different than any other person who has a preference. I don’t think that he should have use the example he did though. He apologized. So, I think we should move on with our day. Shux! This sub-human made a shortsighted racist remark and now that he’s catching a wave of criticism, he wants to retract his original statement.

Why is that people use the n-word only to fall back on some well thought out excuse? Whether your intellectual capacity rivals that of John Lock or Denis Diderot, there is absolutely no reason why anyone should use the n-word.

John, quick call Al Sharpton. He’s sure to give you a pat on the back, and at a co$t, is willing to earse all this as if nothing ever happened. (sarcasm off)

  39. 39
    KaraZ says:

Why are people surprised that John Mayer can sound racist and make off color remarks? Because he sang waiting on the world to change and supported Obama? HA! At the end of the day he’s a white man who was raised in the United States, no matter how ‘progressive’ or ‘open-minded’ they are, white people in America can’t help but to suffer from white privilege (which allows them to suffer from mouth diarrhea) and have a little bit of prejudice in them (which is the root of all these ill thought out comments).

this is true. Believe it or not Jews are taught to always stick together from child hood, however within the Jewish community there is a lot of hostility toward each other. Go figure :shrugs:

  42. 42
    KaraZ says:

I just read the rest of the comments & no wonder white folks et.al. Can talk about black people any way they want to. We just sit back & allow it.
If the reverse happened where a black man used cracker & said his penis hated white women in an interview with mainstream media, there’d be a career lynching & so much public outcry; but mot us black folk. I bet Lil Wayne jumps on a Mayer remix or Jay Z invites him back for another collabo. When in actuality everyone should boycott him from his musicians to co-celebs.

As for folks saying they’re immune to the N word, I laugh. Denying that the word exists or that its meaning doesn’t apply to you, is a crock of isht. You know good & well that no matter what level of achievement you attain, that too many people still look at you & think you’re a N and treat you as less than & deny you opportunities based on that perception. It is a powerful word (you don’t have the power to render it powerless) & everyone should be outraged that anybody (not just a white boy) uses this word.

    Song of Solomon Chapter 1:5-6

5 I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon.

6 Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother’s children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept.

Black people need to understand that they are God’s original people. That is why some other races are jealous of that fact, and HATE black people with an evil passion.
Black people are God’s first fruits and God’s superior race. They are God’s children.

Those evil whites know this, but try to keep this knowledge from the younger black generation.

Learn your History, stick to your black brother/sister. Help your Black brother/sister understand that they are the original kings and queens.

i just don’t understand what the hell he was talking about. like did he just think he was cool w/blacks so he could use the N word?

someone on another site said he was trying to say that if he really had a hood pass, he’d be able to use the n-word but i don’t get that interpretation.

the whole interview seemed a little weird.

  46. 46
    gypsyeyes says:

There seemed to be a lot of editing of that article. I was reading it in detail and the interviewer asked some weird questions and his responses were somewhat all over the place. I just think that what he was trying to say didn’t come out right. I could see where he was going with it though. I hear what people are saying about him using the ‘N’ word but black folks use honkey and any other word that they want when it comes to white ppl. I’m not justifying it but look at black shows and compare them to white shows. There is no way the cast of ‘Friends’ would have been able to talk about blacks the way the cast of ‘The Game’ talked about white folks.I like how the black community gets on their high horse and want to pull out the race card when someone says something but let a black man date/marry a white girl. All hell breaks loose and the names get to flying. It happens in black movies, shows and in books but if white people do it the world owes us forty acres and a mule. I know our plight and our struggle but remember what the saying is “What’s good for the goose is good for the gander”. We have to stop using the word and then we can use ourselves as an example as to why no one should use the word.

  47. 47

    Good morning SR Fam :coffee:

John Mayer saying the “n” word is not illegal. He just showed his true colors. I understand that people have died fighting for our freedom and I’m forever gracious to them. But in my opinion, we can’t keep giving them this power over us when they use this word towards us. We have advanced since the word was used to degrade black people. We have a african american president, we have soooo many african american leaders… why do we need to go backwards when we are moving so far ahead and making so much progress. I feel like when you allow a person to break your spirit by using the “n” word or any other word towards you then you still have a long way to go. There is nothing a white, black, purple, green person can say to me that will break my spirit. As long as I know I’m not a “n” word, a bytch, a hoe, or whatever, you just look foolish to me wasting your breath. Just my .02!!

    Let’s roll Sandra.

I wasn’t checking for him previously so his preference matters none. I wouldn’t screw particular races either. I think it was HOW he said it which is the issue. He should’ve left it alone attempting to be witty, cute, & “deep” he failed to articulate it.

i think i’m a tad sensitive towards this type of ordeal mainly because i see us shrugging things off as if it does not apply…it indeed applies to you whether YOU associate yourself with the word or not. the fact they are referencing the n-word when discussing AFRICAN AMERICAN people means regardless if you feel you’re not a “n” THEY ARE REFERRING TO YOU & YOUR PEOPLE AS ONE. why is this so hard to understand?

whew! slavery did a number on us and the effects still plague us to this day. it’s all for self & that’s your caucasian counterparts mentality that we have so eagerly adopted…blah, back to work :)

  50. 50

did john not realize that he had black female fans? im not really upset with him, just…. a little suprised. i mean, i see what he was tryin to say, he just let it come out the wrong way. im still a fan of his music though.

  51. 51
    Chgoprime says:

Honkey does not have the same power that ni66a does. A yte person will tell you this. It’s not a about giving anybody power. For hundreds of thousands of Blacks ni66a was the last word they heard before being executed. So to down play this is a slap in their face.

  52. 52
    KaraZ says:

At gypsyeyes… The couldn’t have used any insulting terms for black people on Friends, because the new york they lived on was lily white. Aisha Tyler guest starred for 2 or so episodes & that was it for the almost 10yrs the show was on. I don’t watch the Game, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard cracker or honky used on any black show I’ve watched.
However, John Mayer was not on set playing a character, he was being interviewed as himself. His words were his true feelings, not some script he was reading.

  53. 53
    gypsyeyes says:

Slander is Slander to me. I understand the deep rooted meaning in the word believe me. Just playing devils advocate because we use the word so much. When we say the word honkey it has a negative meaning. No they didn’t endure what we endured but does it make it right. We have to stop using the word, plain and simple and then no one else will feel so comfortable using it.

  55. 55
    gypsyeyes says:

Karaz- I understand that and the word honkey has been used on so many television shows from Good Times to What’s Happening to the Jeffersons and this was in the 70′s. It’s been going on for a long time. I know that John was being him self and I’m not giving him a pass but when are we going to stop being the victim and not just fight when it happens to us and fight before it happens. We only stand united when it is mainstream. What about before someone says it?

  56. 56
    texarican mamacita says:

I then got out (it was night time), made my son get out of the truck on the side of the road, and made my husband drive away really slow. When I opened the door back up, my boy was bawling saying “Momma don’t leave me, I’m sorry”. He never pulled that crap again.

@VI I was at Ft Hood too, during the hot azz summer of 99 when I was 113-115 for about 2 weeks and I was in my third trimester. I had to lay down and lift my leg up all sideways to be able to tie my boots

    Its a small world huh?

Why are people surprised that John Mayer can sound racist and make off color remarks? Because he sang waiting on the world to change and supported Obama? HA! At the end of the day he’s a white man who was raised in the United States, no matter how ‘progressive’ or ‘open-minded’ they are, white people in America can’t help but to suffer from white privilege (which allows them to suffer from mouth diarrhea) and have a little bit of prejudice in them (which is the root of all these ill thought out comments).

Thank you. We have become so relaxed that we have a black president and this is 2010 that we really think the rest of the WORLD feels the same way about us.
Furthermore, our nonchalant atttitude will be the death of us. You would never see Jews brush this slur off even if there was a Jewish president. We are a disgrace to the Civil Rights Movement’s hard work.

    ******************************

Exactly. And furthermore, what amazes me is that in 2010 white folks still think they can come out of their mouth with anything. I mean when the Don Imus situation happened black people were split on whether we should be offended or not. We can’t come together about anything! Nothing really said offends me these days but they (WPs) should know better! Their sense of entitlement and just being able to do what they want to whomever they want just gets me. We live in the days of political correctness and them of all people should be on their P’s and Q’s when it comes to racial sensitivity. Fronting like when they drew the picture of Obama as a monkey they had no clue that black people have historically been referred to as monkeys. GTFOH. Hell Isaiah Thomas can hardly get a job today because of the alleged homophobic comment but after ALL Eminem’s gay bashing he is now cool with Elton John, the world’s number one queen? But again we allow this and want to be excepted by with them sooooo bad they can do anything and we give it a pass.

Don’t worry, I’m not. This post is proof of the condition we are in today as people. Do I care about John Mayer…No, does what he said affect me….No. But at the end of the day his a$$ should have know better. Why did he think that was ok? And Black people always looking, searching for a way to give them a pass. Talking about we say cracker or honkey. That’s like saying calling a man a dog is the equivalent to calling a women a b*tch? We know historically that would has been meant to tear down, degraded and so on. My husband, who is from West Africa, has never even heard the word cracker or honkey (I had to explain to him what they meant) BUT he is very clear on the N word.

Will Obama call Mayer a jackass? What constitutes racism? I guess people have to be hanging from trees or go back to slavery. White folks have really been getting out of pocket lately and all we can say is, “It’s not that serious”. I am beyond fed up! Wake up everybody. I guess I’m being way to sensitive. The white man is extremely crafty. He’s playing chess while we are playing checkers.

Which one is it why to give BS issues more precedence over **** that should matter. So no Obama will not be callin John Mayer a jackass b/c he’s a white man the rules don’t apply to him…
