I guess Keyshia Cole told them — in more ways than one. I can certainly identify with Keyshia’s feelings: I haven’t spoken to a close family member in over 10 years. Sometimes it’s the ones you came into the world with who cause you the most heartache in life.

Well, it is what it is. Sometimes you have to let people go… even when they’re family.
I have plenty of family members who I’d love to let go – I don’t live in the same city with my family, so it’s easy for me to simply not come around or call. I talk when I have to, but other than that – we were simply born of the same family and that doesn’t require me to like/tolerate you.
Contrary to what people believe, you can outgrow your family just like you outgrow friends. Blood isn’t prerequsite for tolerating people that you don’t WANT to be bothered with.
I have a cousin I grew up with who was like my brother coming up. I’m talking about I spent the entire summers at their house, was there every weekend – NEVER went home. I was a “have” and HE was a “have not” – I was introduced to mayonnaise sandwich’s at this clown’s house. My mom would constantly ask WHY I wanted to go there knowing there was a chance that we wouldn’t eat – but I loved him and his brother and my house was like a museum whereas theirs was lived in and they had fun – even if they didn’t have lights.
This clown grew up and became lower – middle class and think he Oprah. His whole conversation is always about what the rest of the family or the people in his former neighborhood don’t have and don’t want – and it irks me that he’s now “better” than everybody else and he’s LOWER middle class.
I’m always like, “MF, if anybody should have grown up with an ‘air’, it should have been ME… how YOU get your nose in the air when you never had a pair of pants that didn’t come from goodwill til you were in the army…

True. The real deal is when you’re around foonery all the time you don’t see it. Frankie, KC, Elite and Cafeteria didn’t know any better. It wasn’t until the shows aired that KC was able to be a outsider looking in at her own family. I know she regrets introducing us to them. I know she had the best of intentions, but sometimes it just backfires. I wonder if the show(s)had not happened would things be different w/this family. Hi Everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster.
I’ve really come to appreciate KC over the years as her music has grown and she has personally matured. Seeing how happy she is with the love of her life and new baby is inspiring. She certainly seems to be in a good place.
BUT, the situation with her family is tragic because they were basically exploited for her profit on her reality show. I’m sure they were all a mess before the show, but once BET and KC saw what a ratings bonanza they were, they put their flaws on blast for the next two seasons which only exacerbated an already fragile situation. Everyone was watching the show to see what Neffie and Frankie were going to do next, it wasn’t the KC show anymore. KC used that and got paid off it for a long time. Now it’s like, I’m distancing myself from my family. You created that ma. She could have helped them without parading them around like a sideshow. Just my opinion.
