Steve Jobs: “Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated”

In 1983, Steve Jobs, a 27-year-old multimillionaire, introduced the world’s first personal home computer with a mouse driven gui, called the Apple Lisa.

According to TMZ.com, this photo of the Apple co-founder and former CEO was taken today — two days after he resigned as the head honcho of Apple.

The post title refers to a Mark Twain quote that Jobs recited at a Apple keynote meeting after a media outlet mistakenly published his obituary in 2008.

In 2004, Jobs announced that he had been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his pancreas — one of the deadliest forms of cancer.

Police Hunt Former NBA Player in Shooting Death of Woman

Remember when Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas was suspended by the league for pulling a gun on a player in the locker room during an argument over a gambling debt last January?

Well, that player, Javaris Crittenton, is wanted by police in connection with the drive-by shooting death of a 23-year-old woman on an Atlanta street last week.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Javaris Crittenton will be charged with homicide in the death of Jullian Jones.

Jones was walking with two men near 2915 Macon Drive in southwest Atlanta around 10 p.m. Aug. 19 when she was shot, according to Carlos Campos, APD spokesman. Jones, a mother of three, was struck in the hip and later died during surgery.

The two men walking with Jones fled and were not injured.

Police say Jones was not the intended target. Crittenton may have been seeking retaliation after he was the victim of a robbery on April 21, 2011, Campos said.

Celebs Out & About: Ciara

R&B singer Ciara was spotted leaving her New York hotel yesterday heading for the airport in advance of Hurricane Irene’s landfall on Sunday. She was wearing brown leather pants with a white blouse and her favorite pair of Christian Louboutins. Ciara, 25, is busy recording her 1st album for Epic Records under LA Reid. This album should put her back on top where she belongs! The entire city of NY is coming to a standstill as New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg ordered the subway system and other modes of public transportation shut down for the first time ever. NYC will be a disaster area once the trains stop running because most residents don’t have cars.

Mayor Bloomberg also ordered a mandatory evacuation of some low lying areas of Manhattan. And since all of Manhattan is surrounded by water, that includes just about everyone. Some New York and New Jersey residents have already evacuated inland. But hard core New Yorkers who aren’t afraid of a little wind and rain are staying put.

Celebs Out & About: Queen Latifah, Stevie Wonder

Foxy lady Queen Latifah made an appearance on ‘Good Morning America’ with host Robin Roberts to promote her clothing collection for HSN yesterday in New York City. The chick on the far right is Queen Latifah’s longtime assistant, LaWanda “LB” Black. Apparently, both women share the same taste in expensive watches. On a recent trip to Atlanta the ladies stopped by a high end jewelry boutique and picked up matching $25,000 watches. I can’t go into details on how I know all of this. But let’s just say my source is very credible. In fact, she kept insisting that I knew who “LB” was, despite my repeated denials. Does Queen Latifah look great or what? Who else finds it interesting that Queen is following her ex, @TheMonifah, on Twitter? That’s them pictured below during happier times when they always color-coordinated their outfits.

Bishop Eddie Long Responds

Bishop Eddie Long, the embattled pastor of New Birth Missionary Church, wasted no time responding to two of his accusers yesterday. Jamal Parris, 24, and Spencer Legrande, 23, are speaking out about their experiences with Long, despite signing a confidentiality agreement.

Apparently, they aren’t happy with the terms of the structured settlement they agreed upon earlier this year. They thought their $2 million settlements spread out over 20 years was a generous amount — until they started spending the cash and discovered that $100,000 doesn’t go a long way when you’re greedy and have extravagant tastes.

In a message to his congregation posted on the church’s website, Long wrote:

New Birth Members,

We have a long history of dutifully serving those in need in the local and global communities and we will continue to do so. We are committed to the calling of a strong, viable and relevant ministry of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Unfortunately, we are in the media again and people are wondering what I am going to say. All I have to say is what we stated earlier. All parties involved decided to resolve the civil cases out of court. The decision was made to bring closure to this matter and allow us to move forward with the plans God has for this ministry.

I will continue to honor and abide by my commitment of confidentiality and restraint as it relates to the resolution of the civil litigation and will not be diverted from the important work of the ministry.
