Celebrity chef Paula Deen has been fired from the Food Network after she admitted using racial slurs in a videotaped deposition.
Earlier today, Deen released an apology video pleading for forgiveness from her fans. In the video she seemed bewildered — as if trying to read from cue cards. That video was removed from Deen’s website and replaced with an even stranger video this afternoon.
In the 2nd video, she appears a bit more relaxed as she sits near her well-stocked makeup tray in what appears to be a dressing room.
“I want people to understand that my family and I are not the kind of people that the press is wanting to say we are. I’ve spent the best of 24 years to help myself and others,” she says.
“Your color of your skin, your religion, your sexual preference does not matter…to me, but it’s what in the heart…what’s in the heart…and…my family and I try to live by that.”
“…I hope that you forgive me because this comes from the deepest part of my heart and I will continue to work and continue to do good things for good people. Thank you for listening.”
Earlier this morning, before she was fired, Deen hastily posted a photo to her website of a lone black man mingling with her staff on the set of her popular cooking show.

More from Sandrarose.com:
OH! OH! Y’aLL!!!
Yes! FIRST!!!
Is the lone Black man photoshopped into the picture…looks kinda suspect to me. Have a great weekend all!
I knew this woman was the devil in disguise when she used 8 sticks of butter for her mac n’ cheese recipe!
Wow. So sad..I was REALLY a Paula fan too.
Looks like eitha she pulled that young AA man off the streets and convinced him to pose for that pic..OR he’s the boyfriend of one of those yt gals in that pic.
I agree with the following too… (from downstairs)
Torae says: She’s not going to lose any money! they’ll give her more shows, endorsements etc…I mean it’s not like she insulted gay people! She insulted black folks and most white people dont care, because they feel the same way she does. People will complain for a little bit, then she will be alright.
______
The ONLY reason she’s apologizing is damage control. She’s probably @ home right now spitting out the word N*gg*r faster than a Best of Tupac cd.
What REALLY stuck in my craw though…was how she answered that ? in the deposition.
Q: Have you ever used the N-word?
Deen : Yes, OFCOURSE!
Ofcourse???
“Ofcourse” is the kinda indignant answer you give when somebody asks if you brush your teeth everyday. I read HER “ofcourse” like “ofcourse I’ve used the N word…what ELSE am I supposed to call them?”
Anddddddd….how much u wanna bet..that her (like minded, still mad Obama won..yt) fanssssss…will launch some kinda campaign to get her show reinstated.
Andddddd…some Black folks are so distubingly dissmissive..i.e. “what do you expect, she was raised in the South…blah blah.
The End.
It’s funny because she could of gotten away with it. I doubt there is a white person in North America who hasn’t said “N-gg-r”. For me it was her phrasing. I’m still having trouble with her “Yes, of course.” That statement implies pride . . . and you know what they say about pride.
I don’t know why she didn’t settle with the woman suing her. When you do dirty, you don’t ever do the deposition.
I’m not mad at her. I actually feel kinda bad. We’ve all said things that we wouldn’t want repeated in public. She’s not the first and she won’t be the last. Let her live.
Paula girl,
It’s time to get your affairs in order. It’s a wrap for you and your brand. The curtains are closing.
Shame it had to end like this.
8 sticks of butter mac n cheese, id eat it sounds good. @whatdoesitmatter, you def have a point. Most people say things like yt folk smell like dogs they dont wash they hands just to name a few ( some do ). Like I said the other day, a lot of them say were racists because of the things we say. Im at the point where id rather folks be able to say what they want rather than all the apologies. I will respect them more for being honest, just probably wont wont fck with them. But we can still be cordial.
Ain’t no good gonna come to Paula and Bubba, until they do right by Lisa Jackson.

This kinda stuff coming from what I’m assuming is a Black person, concerns me on soooooo many levels.
It’s NOT just the utterance of the N word…it’s her apparent BELIEF that Black people are inferior. Hence her wanting to see a wedding “plantation style” with Black folks dressed like slaves.
Hence her resturants having MANY Blacks working in the kitchen…but maybe 1 or 2 in the front.
Hence her using the N word as she angrily described the Black man that she alleges held a gun to her head. (My momma told me that folks WILL tell their TRUE feelings when they are eitha drunk..or mad.)
My discontent is NOT with the word..it’s the MINDSET. So if we give Paula Deen a pass and “let her live” because her feelings that Black people are indeed inferior..are no big deal……then perhaps Zimmerman should get the same pass. After all, that’s HIS mindset too.

Wow I guess blacks & the rest of America should move on & forgive because some of us don’t have a problem with it
So what she said the “N-Word”… Lil Wayne says it, Tupac said it,…. Hell Archie Bunker and George Jefferson called each other “Honky” and “Nig ger” all day… Get over it. If you don’t want white people to say it then “Black people need to stop saying it. They only calling you what we call ourselves. Is that wrong??
I don’t know why she didn’t settle with the woman suing her. ________________
Paula Deen… settle with a N*gg*r??? Surely you just!!

Can you really be THIS obtuse?
I HIGHLY doubt that Tupac and Lil Wayne ever used the word N-I-G-G-A to infer that they were racially superior to OTHER Black folks they used it in reference to! Surely you can understand the difference when the letters NIGG are follwed by an “a”…rather than an “er”?
And I’m not too concerned with what a FICTIONAL TV character (Archie Bunker) said…and btw..the character Archie NEVER used THAT word..he used other slurs, but not the N word..look it up.
Again, it’s not the word so much as the MINDSET behind the use of the word. So the well-worn, unoriginal excuse of “so what…Blacks use the word all the time” just doesn’t cut it.
*le sigh* Let my people go.
Assuming me to be black would be logical being I am on a “black” blog, but realistically I’m a little bit of a lot of things which has no bearing on my opinion. I’ll say this, I don’t care about her mindset or beliefs because I do have the option of not having to deal with her. That’s the beauty of choice. Now referencing Travon, I’m not sure how we go from speaking an unkind to murder. Murder is unjustifiable with no chance of recompense while Paula has the opportunity to learn and grow from this experience without the burden of such an unforgivable act. I live for forgiveness because I require it daily. But please feel free to stay mad because that is your choice to make.
THis doesn’t surprise me at all..smh. My grandmother died in 2005..she lived in the South. I made my annual visits to see her, but when she died that ended my trips. No disrespect to my Black Southern neighbors. I love the hospitality, food and love…but most of the white folks I ran into were intolerable for a born and bred Black Northern.
PLease DON’T let Paula’s Dean’s ignorance turn us against each other. She was wrong and she has to deal with the consequences. Life eventually catches up with you and it’s usually at an inconvenient time….
@ #17…
Actually Sandra’s blog attracts posters from all over the world..so one never knows who posts here.
And I used Trayvon (RIP) as an analogy…albeit a far reaching one. My point is this…I’m not angry @ the PERSON..who stills holds such racist ideologies as truth…I’m peturbed at the ideology itself. And more than a little annoyed that Black folks so airily dismiss it. Sure you have the option of not dealing with her per say..but what about the coworkes, service industry people, bosses, etc that hold that same mindset. What about the folks that you are FORCED by circumstance to deal with…and arent afforded the apathetic luxury of sticking your head in the sand?
And since you feel its “no big deal”…I’d PAY to see a yt person call you a N*gg*r to your face…and have you nonchalantly say “it’s ok..Tupac and Lil Wayne say it..so you can call me that all you want…I don’t mind.
I highly doubt that Paula Deen has learned a character altering lesson from ANY of this…you’re talking about a real person with deeply ingrained beliefs…(not a character from All in the Family, who learned the ills of their ways at the end of the 30 minute episode).
As I posted earlier…the only thing that Deen has learned from this debacle.. is NOT to say the N word around anybody but close family and like minded friends from now on.
Anywhoodle….you have a great weekend. Take care!
I never really cared for this old batty lady or her food. Her son looked kinda kool…but basically when I lived in Georgia I had a African-American friend from Americus, GA who lovedddd Paula, got her book, and wanted to visit her restaurant in Savannah. I thought it would be kool, but looking back how can someone who grows up in the deep south, among racist people, come to adore the actual person who has the same characteristics that brings our people so much pain? My answer is maybe deep in her mind she still sought out the acceptance of “People Like Paula Deen”…like as a victim she has come to love the victimizer….food for thought.
Maybe we all seek their acceptance in some sick strange way?
I forgive her…why? Well, the word ni**er or nigga however you want to say it, does not personally offend me. We give that word so much power and when it is said by Paula Deen or anyone else who isn’t “black”, we are ready to have them hung. I am more offended that black people feel we have the right to pick and choose who can say it. We glorify Chief Keef, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and other black entertainment figures who use the word frequently, and deem it as “cool”. Was she [Paula] wrong, yes! But I am tired of black folks making it okay for one and not the other. Lead by example. Stop referring to each other as ni**ers/niggas and maybe, just maybe, others will follow suit. The word means “ignorant”…and in this case neither Paula or the African Americans who use the word are exempt from that.
I’m “still” a fan. I respect her honesty. We have all laughed at racist jokes, made racist jokes, gay jokes etc…Anyone who says that they haven’t is telling a bold faced lie. It does not make her a bad person, or any less talented. Just makes her human…and she apologized.
P.S. I know she wishes they never hired that black employee though..and now probably thinking had we settled this would not have happened. She’s going to lose untold millions now behind this SMH….keep ya head up PAULA and maybe the Big O..will give you a slot on her network..considering her and Oprah are great friends… SIGHS
This is coming from a woman whose recipes were taken from African Americans and used as her own…. Take your trailer trash mouth and stuff it!
@22…I get ur point. With the same grace and understanding that I’ll hope you’ll receive mine.
If I’m in a crowd of Black folks..and I hear the word “n*ggA” screamed out…I can shrug it off as ignorance.
If I’m in a crowd of yt folks..and I hear the word “N*ggER” screamed out…well it’s time to go. ASAPIDLY.
Black folks don’t (usually) use the N word as a form of racism. The intent behind Black rappers/people who say things like “n*gga please..” is NOT the same intent as a yt person saying “that N*gger needs to know his/her place”.
But that might make a lil TOO much sense. So I’ll

Excellent comments in this post.
What poor racist Paula meant to say was “I hope that you forgive me because this comes from the deepest part of where I live in the south and I will continue to work and continue to do good things for poor black people like yourself. Thank you for listening and watching” “Buba please hand me my white hood would ya”
Good I’m glad she was fired. I never heard another black person called another black person a nigger. Wait? I think I did and this black person thought that they were white.
When I worked in a nursing home as a CNA I was called a nigger and a darkey. The daughter of the patient told me ” my mother never had a racist bone in her body” I was like butcher please she’s about 90 years old, who are you kidding? I had a patient sing slave songs while I gave her big fat a$$ a shower.
Racism is still alive and kicking. I have some mixed nieces and nephews and I know the child’s mother parents disowned her. White women love some black men in Syracuse.
Just left her restaurant and this debacle has not stopped people from standing in line for 3 hours. I heard a guy say “I don’t care what she said. She was honest and made a mistake”. So Paula aint going anywhere.
This city lovesssssss Paula.
Thank you @Lace Jagger. People here thinks she invented mac n cheese and fried chicken when in actuality she stole the recipe.
Well….if some people don’t stand for something they would fall for anything. And fall for Paula fake a$$ apology. Sitting back laughing all the way to the bank$. I wouldn’t support her in anything she does. Knowing how she really feels about black people. I’m surprise she didn’t use the ” some of my closest friends are black” statement.
When someone shows me who they are I believe them….and refuse to make excuses for why they’re like that. If her mindset prevents her from seeing me as her equal then my money is not up to her standards either and she won’t be getting it. This chick basically implied she longed for the days of the old south when blacks were the servers and not the served. Sitting at the feet of my grandmothers listening to them describe living in Alabama during Jim Crow and how they were precieved and treated by whites; witnessing the sadness and deep hurt in their eyes… I can’t with this sorry human. If you want an example of a complete waste of God’s time…watch the video. She never got a dime of my money and she never will, I won’t support someone I KNOW gives less than a dime about me and the people that look like me. She lost her show….GOOD.
#shrugs Idk why people are so surprised…I’m sure sprites use the n word all the time..She just happens to be a famous person so people care about her saying it..Can I just say, I’ve eaten at The Lady and Sons in Savannah and its so overated. All they serve there is soul food. Fried chicken, mac and cheese stuff I fix every Sunday. ..I was more disappointed in that…#filesnails
Good for her

This gets a big blah.. she is another ignorant racist southern person; no new news here. They have jobs and careers too.
I wish walmart would take back this big gumbo pot I bought from her line…. ol backwoods racist butter on errythang bigot…
