After news broke that allegedly gay Miami Dolphins player Jonathan Martin left the team due to bullying, one teammate was suspended from the team indefinitely for taunting Martin with racist text messages. Now comes word that Richie Incognito’s bitter father is anonymously salting sports message boards with outrageous claims about Martin and the team owner.
Richie Incognito finds himself at the center of the Dolphins’ and the NFL’s investigation of the bullying complaints of Jonathan Martin, who left the team last week. Incognito has been suspended indefinitely, and the latest report is that Incognito left Martin texts and voicemails “that are both threatening and racially charged in nature.”
Early this morning, a poster with the username “idrd1994” left an impassioned defense of Incognito on the FinHeaven message board. In it, he attacked both Martin and Mike Pouncey as “black brothers that do drugs on a regular basis,” and asked readers to “pray [GM Jeff] Ireland and [coach Joe] Philbin die of AIDS.” He blasts the team from top to bottom, claims Incognito is getting railroaded, and uses the “black people say the N-word in rap music” argument to dismiss claims that Incognito sent racial messages to Martin. He also implies that Martin has pondered suicide, and “does not belong in an NFL locker room.”

I look at this both ways. One side is the macho man up approach. Just confront the guy and iron it out.
The other side is that if this is about racism then why should he be forced to endure it just because he is big? I mean weren’t we all up in arms because a black kid got profiled for buying a Ferragamo belt? This man was just trying to do his job and was called out his name.

How does the victim of bullying get blame for the bully’s behavior?
I don’t know about quitting. I think of all the first generation blacks that broke the color barrier in all facets of life. I’m pretty sure they had to put up with a lot more than bullying and being called the n word but they stayed…and for a lot less money.

There’s something more to this story than we’re getting.
We already know about Black men and depression, especially in sports. Walking off the team in a hissy fit rather than taking a more appropriate approach sounds like someone’s gotta problem. Racism in sports isn’t and hasn’t been limited to just Martin. There are Black NFL player representatives Martin could have contacted.
He called him a half a nigg#r ,said he would defecate in his mouth and kill him. If this was any other job he’d be fired not suspended…
