Beyonce out and about in NYC

Pop singer Beyonce leaked a snippet of her new single titled “Ring Off” on the Internet yesterday. The lyrics tell the story of a long-suffering wife who is heartbroken after learning her husband cheated on her.

Since Bey and Jay Z’s marriage is all good, Bey isn’t singing about her own experiences — although the media would love to believe otherwise. The media has expended a lot of energy in 2014 trying to convince the public that Beyonce and Jay Z are done.

On her smash hit “Single Ladies,” Beyoncé famously sang, “If you liked it you should have put a ring on it.”

But on the new track, the ring comes off, as she “smiles through the tears” while dealing with a partner’s seeming betrayal.

“In the mirror you would stare / And say a prayer like, ‘I wish he said I’m beautiful’/ I wish it didn’t hurt at all /I don’t know how I got here, I was once the one who had his heart,” according to Billboard.

“Until you had enough, then you took that ring off/ You took that ring off,” Beyoncé sings in the track’s chorus.

“So tired of the lies and trying and fighting and crying / You took that finger.”

While “Ring Off” laments the end of a relationship, Billboard notes it also ends on a triumphant note, with Beyonce singing, “Now the fun begins / Dust yourself off.”
