Shonda Rhimes

Television producer Shonda Rhimes says people found her more “valuable” after she lost weight. The 47-year-old screenwriter also apparently bleached her skin light to make herself more appealing.

Rhimes, who is the single parent of three adopted daughters, says people found her prettier and more pleasant to look at fter she lost the weight and lightened her skin.

“Women I barely knew gushed. And I mean GUSHED. Like I was holding-a-new-baby-gushed,” she wrote in her latest “Shondaland” newsletter. “Only there was no new baby. It was just me. In a dress. With makeup on and my hair all did, yes. But … still the same me.”

Rhimes was even more impressed that men noticed her for the first time in her life.

“Women gushed anyway. And men? They spoke to me. THEY SPOKE TO ME. Like stood still and had long conversations with me about things,” she continued. “It was disconcerting. But even more disconcerting was that all these people suddenly felt completely comfortable talking to me about my body. Telling me I looked ‘pretty’ or that they were ‘proud of me’ or that ‘wow, you are so hot now’ or ‘you look amazing!’”

The “Scandal” creator said she was surprised when, “after I lost weight, I discovered that people found me valuable. Worthy of a conversation. A person one could look at. A person one could compliment. A person one could admire.”

She added: “When I was fat, I wasn’t a PERSON to these people. Like I had been the Invisible Woman who suddenly materialized in front of them. Poof! There I am. Thin and ready for a chat.”

She continued: “being thinner doesn’t make you a different person. It just makes you thinner.”

GIRL PLS NO YOU DID. ” “after I lost weight, I discovered that people found me valuable” https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/5ff191cabf1e87ea302fd1dd11f00b59a50620e451341e08eb573388e18b56a8.gif

  • Ms. Cree

    Bye Shonda girl….

  • Yardgirl

Uuuggghhh!!! Women, especially white women always want to know what you did to lose weight. Years ago I had a stomach bacteria (food poisoning) and lost a dramatic amount of weight in a short amount of time. I looked frail and ill yet so many YTs were gushing and asking what I did. I was so irritated!! I wanted to tell them “sh*t and vomit* but kept it civil and said nothing.

  • xenaD

    Is this a joke?

  • tintin

I don’t think that, i think after realizing she’s talented, number one shows etc, people had more respect for her and definitely see she’s someone worth of knowing and communicating with.

Oprah been big and people idolize that women, the white ppl in particular love them some Oprah, from overweight Oprah to Thick Oprah.

that weight loss took about 10 years off of her, she looks much younger when thinner.

  • TheOwley
  • Malai

This is BS ? Like she can’t be serious.. if u have to go thru all that to get attention then lady, you’re seeking attention from the WRONG people

  • sunni_daze

I missed the part where she said she was bleaching.

  • PrettyBrown28

You’re better than me. Someone once asked me what did I do to get my car…I said “strip”…and then walked off. I’m an engineer btw.

  • Miany

She is probably right but, I do not know why she is so surprised.. yall act like yall dunno how Hollywood is. They are super vain there and care a lot about appearances, she had all the #1 shows and I bet she was still the fat black producer lady.. now she is a more attractive black producer lady & folk feel the need to mention it. Same with Gabby, she was always caricatured as a big black actress (remember them yt folk had her in a wedding dress at a skinny yt woman wedding, like it was a joke?), I am assuming that NOW because she is no longer obese, she will not be poked fun at in the same way.

  • Miany

auntie added that part for blog hits.

  • BlahBlahBlah

    GYAOH!

  • WutizaGRANNY!

Here is what I know..if you are uncomfortable with you..people will be too. It has zZZZZEEERO to do with your weight and 100% of how you interact. If you are closed off because of insecurities people sense that and avoid the negative. But if you are suddenly more confidence, then you will be inviting and people will draw to you. Ive seen some of the finest men date some heavy round women so its not your weight is YOUR attitude about YOUR weight.

  • Soda

That’s probably why Gabourey Sidibe wants people to stop congratulating her on her weight loss, as if she has never accomplished anything else.

  • Scromes1212

I don’t get this. Some people felt she looked better when she lost the Weight. What’s wrong with that? It’s a natural human reaction for a male to show attention to a female he finds attractive. She got the shows before she lost the weight so it didn’t have any barring on her ability to get work. Sometimes we overthink situations. Enjoy the extra attention and the compliments. Wish her the best.

  • hottlanta

I am mad because she has all of that money and looking at the picture above, she paid all of that money for a dress with pattern of bales of hay and she thought it was cute to wear. That is why people didn’t speak to you Shondra.

  • Miany

so you mean to tell me you do not believe people comment on her weight loss? I can lose 10 pounds or even gain some weight and folk mention it. I may not even notice the change in my weight but, others around me will comment. I guess folk just dont say shii to you.

  • Scromes1212

But if she said something about being old with money and having sex with multiple dudes you be defending her smh the irony.

  • Scromes1212

No disrespect but she is still obese. JS

  • Soda
  • Scromes1212

How did you pay for school?

  • Yardgirl

    Exactly!

  • Julia Lyons

She must be writing another scene in her head because she just isn’t attractive either way. And to have short stubby arms…let me stop.

  • Quitedeliteful

She really should be careful of the people she claims are now “gushing and having long conversations” with her. If they are so superficial that they had no time for her before why would she want to be bothered with them now??? She has to work on her self esteem issues. Oprah is a biggun and always has been and people have always admired and respected her…

  • Simone

I don’t watch her shows but I know they’re successful. All of her shows star/starred beautiful women (i.e. Kerry Washington, Viola Davis) and handsome men (i.e. Isaiah Washington, Patrick Dempsey) so clearly beauty/sex appeal sells & she knows that. Good actors matters too but people pay more attention to attractive men & women, so why is she surprised.

  • Yardgirl

LMAO!! Good for you!! They are always in our pockets counting our change. My sister is going on a Mediterranean cruise next week. A YT woman asked her how much it cost. She acted like she did not hear her. She asked again and my sister told her. She was like “wow that much!!” like she could not believe it. B*tch!! My sis offered to take me with her and pay my way but I am scared of cruises so I said no. If you work hard and save your money, anything is possible.

  • Quitedeliteful

    LOLLOLLOL!!!!!!!!!!! Touche!!!

  • PrettyBrown28

? Grants, loans, and scholarships asshole.

  • Quitedeliteful

    short stubby arms… LOLLOLLOL!!!!!!

  • Ariel

Read the original article, because Shonda didn’t say anything about bleaching; and she was actually offended that people only noticed her after losing weight. She is standing up for big girls in the original article….Sandra is a hater.

  • Soda

I warned you to leave but you didn’t listen!

  • hottlanta

I sure as hell will that ain’t change. I was talking about her dress. Are you sexually happy with the one penis you have because it is something about women having the right to choose different dyyks when one wants to that bothers you so much. I didn’t even bring dyyks into the conversation you did.

  • Junkanoo

And mean while Scandal went down hill because she was focused on making her skinny bitch fantasy a reality.Am sure in LA the body politics is off the charts but I do see pretty voluptuous women who seem happy so am not sure her experience may apply to her but is it only obtainable through weight lose.

  • Scromes1212

I was just curious lol no need for name calling :)

  • Bambi

Well what did she expect especially in Hollyweird. But yeah she looked a bit older on her before picture.

  • Bossy704

That is quite possibly the ugliest print I have ever seen. It’s a scarecrow dress.

  • BlahBlahBlah

People do comment usu on anyone who noticeably looks different by way of shedding some pounds. But sounds like here, she was like her black wasn’t beauty enough. Some pity party crap. save dat ish

  • Scromes1212

Stop it lol every time SR post something about a middle age hoe with money you in here capping on some Amber Rose ish smh lol but it’s all good. I just had to address it.

I know, I know.. but, in her defense she is still in the process of losing weight

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

Well we all have those insecurities …love yourself folks…. I wouldn’t give a damn about what someone thinks of me and how I look… Been through hell and back through life … The only judgements that even affect me now are my own personal judgements against myself … I don’t give a damn what folks think… Nor do I present myself for the next … I present myself for me… The shyt up top will have ya azz in 5 years… ( Depending on how weak minded you may be ) dead… From suicide … Hooked on prescription meds … Or headed back to the surgeon to redefine your look… According to what may appeal to the judger …. Well fugg that… Too lazy to switch my style for the next bytch judging me… She looks different ? but shid her soul not mines…

You should never seek validation from other people, healthy self esteem and self assurance does wonders with your flaws and all.

  • hottlanta

Why somebody gotta be a hoe. Is Steve Harvey a hoe. Is Bill Cosby a hoe. Are they acting like Amber Rose with a marriage license? Go Amber Go. She ain’t going on a 15 minute break trying to clock in on time afraid of HR she is gonna get fired from her job. Those who can’t get dyyks get mad at those who do. I bet you peeking right now on the computer to see if your supervisor is coming by checking your computer so you won’t get fired.

  • Nophace

Maybe once she lost the weight, she actually began to feel better about herself which in turn caused her to carry herself different which may have caused ppl to look at her differently. The way we carry ourselves can have a lot to do with how we are viewed. Now I will say this is all an assumption bcz I know nothing about how she treated ppl when she was heavier, nor do I know how she carried herself…..

  • Harley

WHY ARE YOU LYING IN THE TITLE AND SAYING SHE BLEACHED?? WHY DO YOU CONSTANTLY BERATE BLACK WOMEN ON THIS BLOG?

  • hottlanta

She needs to also reflect on how did she treat people. She probably wasn’t happy with the weight and wasn’t aware that she treated people accordingly. So she lost the weight and she was nicer to herself therefore she was nicer to other people.

  • Liah

Because she is an insecure, SHADY, person…

  • Zeta Phi Beta 1920

    Good point.

  • Coy little wink

This is a no brainer Shonda…the better you look the more attention you receive, especially in hollywood

  • KarmaBackAround

U look goodt!! Hopefully she’ll keep Scandal going now with her new found self esteem…

  • HalleMerry

TRUTH! At 309lbs I was never without a man and my thinner friend COULD NOT understand why.I’ve always known why-She is A beeyutch.I’m skinny now and it’s all the same as far as my dating life and she is still chronically single.
    Signed,
    Former heavy,round woman

  • NAYB

She’s a very insecure woman. Probably was never accepted much, so now she hates all black women

  • Miami8981

Wow. That is amazing how a dark-skinned person can bleach their skin and become light-skinned. Do they lay under lights or how is that done? That’s a lot of cream to put on and how can you be sure you didn’t miss a spot. And I heard that it will eventually turn your skin a grayish color. Poor Lil Kim. She now looks like a Chinese and a white woman. Apparently low self esteem is even worse than depression when you feel that you have to change the color of your skin to feel some worth about yourself and get some confidence. Absolutely amazing.

  • HalleMerry

I’m still confused on why she wrote a book about it,but she doesn’t want to discuss it.Why add that chapter to the book?

  • ?Time2Shine?

I wouldn’t want to be friends with people who are only nice if I’m skinny. Those arent real friends. Ive been skinny. Ive been fat and I’m grateful that those who felt the need to change and become outspoken about MY weight are no longer in my life. They could make a million excuses on how I wasn’t nice when I was fat but maybe they weren’t nice because I was fat. If your weight causes people to treat you different, then be thankful that they showed you how shallow they really are.

  • sunni_daze

    I know her alternative facts

  • Lovely1

Ummm, that pic on the right definitely looks more appealing than the one on the left…to alot of people, I’m sure. Moving right along. lol

  • http://worldstarhiphop.com/ The Dutchess

Where’s her article where she said she bleached her skin I wanna read it or are you just reaching??

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

    Do you have 20/20 vision?

  • Panther Charleston

What in all the fawk?! Rhonda, bew, trust me, anybody who is anybody and those outside of them been done damn knew you was and have been the mfin business! That I need to be skinny and have light skin Jones must be strong out there in hollyweird, if powerhouses like you walking around thinking folx don’t want to talk and get down. Get all the way the hell up out of here!

  • http://olskoolblackflix.com Insane Taco Juice

Good info. My thought is that maybe she had bad acne (where you need darker foundation/concealer) or the above pic is a tan. However, if Shonda bleached her skin, it’s one of the better jobs because most people who do this look like death or paste.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

That’s typical of people who lost weight after a surgical procedure; they never want to talk about it. Notice how Shonda didn’t say a word about how she lost the weight? People who lose weight through diet and exercise are happy to share their knowledge with others.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Maybe you should upgrade your cell phone if you can’t see the difference in her skin tone.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Wrong. Most people with insulin resistance have AN. And it’s only under their arms and on their faces, not all over their bodies.

  • Ms.Vanilla

Well, to be completely honest. In my opinion, I like her better after she lost weight and she does look more attractive in the picture on the right. Not to say all people look better with lighter skin… But she definitely does.

  • Shaun M

Right. They really don’t value you or like you all that much.

  • sunni_daze

I do and I also know bull shit when I read it. Its called lighting not bleach.

  • Cheese eggs

Umm I kind of understand. I remember when I was 50 lbs heavier and I lost weight. It’s a definite change. One that takes some time to get used to. I’ve always been a happy talkative person. I interacted with everybody. But after I lost weight, people kind of started to notice that I was in the room. It’s like you go from being invisible to being visible. It does make you feel some type of way. And it makes you wonder what they thought of you before. And why are they interested now. I get her.

  • ?Time2Shine?

And I’m totally okay with that now because the feeling is mutual.

  • Bdot

Sounds like her problems were her self-perception. Once it improved, she felt more self-value. How you view and value yourself can make a world of difference. People often give all of the credit to weight loss, but it’s usually more than that.

  • Dowoop

Losing the weight alone could have done that for her.

  • chris

She look better now nothing malicious about talking to a prettier woman. I won’t speak on the bleaching but most overweight people look better when they lose a bit of weight.

  • chris

    How u lose it?

  • Mbailey

SHE also whitened her teeth. Besides the unsightly weight, maybe people didn’t like getting close to her because of those dark and discolored teeth. I know I steer clear of people like that.

  • Mbailey

WHICH is one of the reasons she lost the weight. She knew she was grossed out by it, and knew other people had to be as well.

  • Harley

I am not on a cell phone and makeup and LIGHTING do wonders as far as the appearance of ones complexion. But YOU know that! Maybe you should report the truth and stop demonizing black women. How about that.

  • Harley

    yep

  • Mbailey

    BWAHAHAHAHA! TOUCHÉ!

  • MsPam

So the message she is sending to her daughters is be skinny and lighter and the world will love you! Are the people that notice her now is white Hollywood?! This has Oprah written all over it!

  • exlurker

Totally agree with your comment. No where in the article does she mention bleaching her skin. Once again these blogs find anything to cause a divide between dark skin and light skin!

  • Li

I love that she lost that amount of weight. Many times it’s more than that — she may have been diabetic or borderline diabetic. I remember Anthony Anderson saying he lost weight because he was borderline diabetic; ditto Chaka Khan.
Shonda looks good and she looks youngers.

  • Li

Well making changes to your weight, your hair, etc. etc. makes one feel much better about themselves.

  • Li

    She’s reaching.

  • Nessa

It’s sad but true. Our society makes us ( Black women) feel inferior if we are darker skin. Very rare would you see a dark skinned woman praised in the media. It’s so horrible!!

  • Harley

Yep. Shame on anyone creating division!

  • Dowoop

The article is definately reaching but that picture says a thousand words.

  • Electricbird83

Exactly. The blogger is stating she bleached her skin but not once did she ‘say’ that. I hope she didn’t bleach her skin for d sake of her daughters.

  • Quitedeliteful

Yep… in comparing these two pics losing weight has definitely been good for her. She looks a lot better…

  • Mrs.Meenie

Losing weight is great and the best heath decision she could have made but lighting her skin is whole nother story! That is a deeper issue right there. Good for her for losing the weight but shame on her for lighting her skin. She should stop and remember Donda West as a reminder of how trying to be perfect in Hollyweird can cost you your life. Shonda needs not to go any further and I hope she is satisfied with her results as of now and does not do any further self hating damage to her skin or any other parts of her body. Good Luck to Shonda and RIP to Ms. Donda.

  • Malcom Flex

Here’s the disconnect many fat and obese black women have with reality yall have normalized that obesity shit so much that, yeh MANY not all but MANY simply aren’t attracted to obese women. Yeh fat girls can get banged by BM and that’s nothing to brag about but…. Shonda is straight lying about many things here. She knows damn well obesity is a turn off to most, except black males and lesbians!!

  • http://worldstarhiphop.com/ The Dutchess

I wouldn’t say so though because depending on the time of year I can be lighter or darker & camera lighting could play into it

  • MsPam

No where in the statement does she talk about being diabetic, she’s talking about people seeing her as a person , not being invisible anymore.

  • teather

Did she say changed the color of her skin, or is this just hatefulness being directed towards her. I see a lot of self loathing people who are speaking badly about ppl who are overweight. I find that position to be cruel and inhumane. But, who are we to tell you all to have a soul. You are being judged by a different set of criteria, maybe not being overweight, but something else. Don’t even get me started with black ppl. YOu have ZERO rights to criticize or say anything intolerable to anyone. Many of you on here are clearly sympathizing with hate. Sad! As the President you didn’t vote for would say.

  • the guest

She’s being coy and dishonest. She knows that being thinner does make you a different person. She is obviously healthier and much happier and that is the greatest difference in the world.

She also knows that although it may not be politically correct to say, black women must no longer rationalize obesity. Sisters are free to be all different sizes, but overweight and obesity is not in anyone’s best health or interests.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

She wasn’t invisible. Invisible people don’t have large follow counts on Twitter. People saw her as a great screenwriter and showrunner. What she wants is for people to put her on a pedestal and worship her.

  • Miany

I understand how you could see it that way.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Does she have to say it? Don’t you have eyes?

  • Malcom Flex

Also the rich and talented heffa failed to mention her PLASTIC SURGERY that new nose, though. She looks like a different person. Stop lying, Shonda!!

  • Smith Jane

I agree but when you have nut cases calling “ugly” people of color (usually the darker spectrum) things like c0ckr0@ches and gremlins, it’s kind of hard not to internalize that chit

  • Malcom Flex

And you’re right>>>but overweight and obesity is not in anyone’s best health or interests<<< the lies keep coming out of BW mouths trying to normalize obesity. I read a font below talking about she was 309 pounds and always kept a man. Yeh right. She let him drive her car, give him money, let him move in and not pay rent. Plus give up the box anytime he wants. You don't see man fly bruvas fronting 309 pound women except in the Southern states but it's a big world out there.

  • Malcom Flex

She didn’t have to bleach she was a pretty tone. I think she bleached to distract from her plastic surgery facelift and nose job.

  • Malcom Flex

Naomi for the past 25 years.

  • Malcom Flex

What they thought of you before? That you weren’t sexually attractive. That’s the hard truth many obese women don’t wanna hear, that’s nature.

  • Smith Jane

Yep. It’s an unfortunate cycle that is perpetuated amongst our very own. Future, Lil Wayne, Kodak Black, and that 21 Savage dude have been called all types of h@teful names that take swipes at their complexion. C0ckr0&ch, gremlin, predator, gorillas etc., amazingly they mostly come from black women. Black women who are known to have the biggest inferiority complex making fun of other blacks. You gotta appreciate the @$$ backward mentality that our ppl have

  • Smith Jane

  • https://twitter.com/Chicagowise Chicagowise

Tiny has light skin and she’s ?

  • Gingertee

She said she lost weight, the person that wrote the article said its apparent that she bleached her skin. Folks act as if they never heard of lighting. Depending on when these photos were taken, she may be using a lighter foundation. I wear a lighter color in Winter than Summer because I tan very easily. The internet has allowed people to place judgement so fast that those same folks have forgotten how to read between the lines or think further than a blog post. If these celebs start filing suit, and people get hit with legal fees and settlement decisions, bloggers will be more careful about speculation

  • Lorenzo Chaps

Well, even fat people don’t respect fat people. You really are looked down upon when you’re fat. I have a cousin who has no fat friends at all, ever since middle school – he’s 32 now. I told him I’ve never seen you hang out with anyone out of shape, let alone date.

When a person drops weight, they too act differently and have a different confidence about his or herself. When you see fat people, you probably just wonder why they’re sweating so much or if they’re hungry.

  • Gingertee

Shonda didn’t say that she bleached her skin, the person who wrote this article said “apparently she bleached her skin.” This was the writers opinion, not a statement from Shonda.

  • Gingertee

She lost weight and she should feel great but she never said that she bleached her skin, the writer of this article said that

BW and BM WTF wrong with some of u bleaching. Melanin is the greatest gift the creator can give, along with brown or black eyes hell they want blue and green… We so europeanized we dont even understand who or what we are. Dam shame

  • Gingertee

Shonda Rimes did not say that she bleached her skin, the person who wrote this post said that “apparently she bleached her skin.” That is the opinion of the writer, not a comment from Ms Rimes. People are mad at her for something she never said and that is wrong.

  • Malcom Flex

Stop BLINDLY caping you can see she bleached had a facelift and a nosejob!

  • Malcom Flex

Shonda, nor any celeb has to confirm they had plastic surgery , stop stanning! Most celebs get nipped and tucked. I state that she’s had: a nose job, a face lift, and skin bleaching even IF SR wouldn’t have pointed out the obvious, I would have.

  • MsPam

Yes I know, that’s why I said she’s been listening/talking to Oprah who thinks her $&@) don’t stink.

  • Malcom Flex

Maybe you need a correction. It’s black MALES who are the corrupt colorists!

  • Gingertee

Do you have any idea how different complexions look depending on the lighter or the shade of their foundation? No one has to confirm anything if they don’t want to but that doesn’t give anyone the right to speculate and start making up stuff. Maybe she did have plastic surgery, who knows and honestly who cares. SR stated that she bleached her skin and that is not what she said, but she made all the statements about her weight. Its sad that because a person looks different in two photos people make the assumption that they are not happy with the color of their skin. Pull up some pics from the 70s and 80s when the main makeup line available to women of color was Fashion Fair, you will think every women has bleached their skin or did something other than make-up to balance their complexion.

  • the guest

Men all colors tend to get involved with obese women any color for duplicitous and self serving reasons. It’s cruel and abusive to take advantage of people not at their best and desperate for love.

  • Gingertee

Maybe she just wanted to feel better about herself and even though she was rich and famous, she felt invisible in certain situations. She is not the first person who experienced a major weight loss that has expressed this.

  • Malcom Flex

You know she’s had a face lift a nose job and skin bleaching. You know it. It’s sad you delusional stans of her appear insane, blind to reality.

  • Gingertee

I agree and I guess I’m baffled why some are acting like she did something wrong.

  • Malcom Flex

Shonda had a nose job a face lift and skin bleaching. Sandra Rose said what any LOGICAL and SANE person – not a stan -with two working eyes can see. So the heffa bleached, and got nipped tucked, big deal, many do.

  • Gingertee

I’m not delusional, I’m adult enough to know that lighting and foundation can make a helluva difference in how someone looks on photos and that is reality whether you agree with it or not. My comment was based on her interview where she never mentioned bleaching her skin and i don’t assume that every person that appears lighter reached for a jar of bleaching cream.

  • Malcom Flex

You’re right. But some fat people think that ish is cute it’s not. A turn off. Go on a damn diet push the plate back stop buying junk food, cook clean food at home it’s not rocket science. Only FEW obese people have authentic medical conditions the majority overeat due to abuse suffered.

  • Malcom Flex

Of course they do it’s and said that: fat girls are easy.

  • Malcom Flex

For the last time MOST CELEBS DON’T ADMIT TO BLEACHING AND GETTING NIPPED TUCKED.

  • Peter Piper ATL

I like Shondra. She’s very intelligent and creative.

But she should ask herself if these “gushing” people were being sincere because she looks the same to me.

The only difference I see is she has less chins in the photo at right.

  • Evillene

This blog is obsessed with skin bleaching…I wonder why?
The difference in her complexion in those pics is either make-up or lighting or both. She definitely lost weight and good for her. It should be apparent that society devalues overweight and obese people. Not everyone is supposed to be “thin” but no one is supposed to be fat either. Of course, there are legitimate health conditions that can impact someone’s size but those are rare afflictions.
What Shonda describes as how other people react to her is more likely a change in how she interacts with other people. She is no longer eating her feelings and hiding herself. She is now proud of her hard work to transform her body and her appearance. She has more confidence and higher self-esteem and it is conspicuous — and people around her react and respond accordingly.

  • Electricbird83

It could be the difference of lighting for all we know. You what people say when you assume…

  • KcoolMuziq

She looks AMAZING! I have NOTHING bad to say about Shonda. Her shows have provided much work for me. Since I’ve worked on ALL her hit shows. She is a GOD’S sent. I will ALWAYS have the ultimate respect for her.

  • Goodii2Shoes

Being overweight signals poor lifestyle choices. And as hard as some ppl in Hollywood work to maintain thin figures u better know ur being judged or overlooked when overweight. Hollywood not sure If obesity is an airborn

  • ?Time2Shine?

I couldn’t have said it better. But you know even Oprah said something similar to this when she first started her talk show. It was one of the reasons she said her weight yo yoed. She would try to impress people by going on crash diets that didn’t work long term. She finally learned to just accept herself fat or skinny and because her money grew, the fake and the real accepted her either way as well.

Some people are just fake like that and they’re good at hiding that fakeness behind a slew of compliments and passing it off as love and support. I think Oprha is smart enough to know the difference where as Shonda hasn’t learned that yet.

  • NicoleZee

She needs to keep the weight off, keep producing/writing shows, and never give interviews. It’s fine to be happier with yourself, but don’t assume that others are miserable or invaluable because they don’t look like you want them to look. And prettier…….chile………I wouldn’t use that adjective to describe her, no shade. Goodnight.

  • NicoleZee

You’re always on point Ms. Sandra! But ain’t nobody trying to worship HER even if she wants it, puh-lease. I don’t get the hype with her or Ms. Tyler Perry. Shonda has one show that I watch, How to Get Away With Murder, the rest are crappy. Plenty of writers and directors in Hollywood producing way better shows. Next…….

  • Quitedeliteful

Yup… people can be so superficial…

  • Dahl

Thanks for saying this! I was thinking, “we’re supposed to ignore the new nose that goes along with that fat loss and complexion?”

  • http://thedevereauxshow.com/ Ms.Devereaux

She missed some keys points here which shows where her self esteem was and is! Maybe she didn’t exude enough self confidence to make ppl want to approach her and talk to her if you standing around looking and acting awkward nobody wants to engage that type of energy. Further there is a obvious change not just the weight loss! Everybody says oh it’s make up and lighting when defending these folks until they keep getting lighter and lighter they said it about lil Kim they said it about Beyoncé they said it about michal Jackson anybody with eyes can see that this lady has gotten lighter and make up is not the reason even still let’s say it is make up why put on make up several shades lighter ?

  • EMILY POST

Its amazing to me how she feels she was treated but she admits that when they were casting scandal she did the same thing to Kerry Washington in reverse. She did not want Kerry Washington because she felt she was too attractive for the role… The network forced Kerry Washington into the Olivia Pope role.
Seems like herself esteem was not very high when she was larger. I am glad she found happiness but its kind of contradictory… She is in Hollywood… and people tend to be thin..
I find it interesting because it seems like for full black women being obese is perfectly and overly acceptable they tend not to like full black women to be to attractive. They love to play them down or make them extremely masculine the majority of the time so it seems to befit the classic mammy stereotypes…

  • Li

Me too. Especially Sandra with the snide remarks about her coloring. The woman looks happy.

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

    Hey Sandra ???

  • stanhope

Doll lesbians don’t care about being heavy…gurl go have a krispy kreme..in fact, have 3

  • YES I SAID IT…

All I got to say is, self-hate is a sad state of mind to be in… Man or woman, lose weight for U, not change your appearance and lose weight to please or be accepted by anyone else. Life is hard BUT it was given to be enjoyed and to be happy in it. If you are going to be spending your time trying to fit in or thinking by changing who U are to be given opportunities, well guess what??? You will never be truly happy…

  • McKay

You are such a wise women. Too bad many don’t see it.

  • McKay

Are you saying a person with a Tyrese complexion in certain lighting he can appear as light as Rhianna??

  • McKay

Glad you have eyes too see. These other people are in denial.

  • McKay

Maybe they cared about your health and wanted to see you work on becoming healthier. The truth can be hurtful…

  • McKay

    ??? I love you Sandra!!!

  • McKay

Who has publicly announced that they hate their skin tone, so they decided to bleach??? I only know of one. That Jamaican artist Vybz Kartel…

  • McKay

I see a confident women who does not conform to society. She lives her life according to her rules. She doesn’t live inside a box like most of society. I see a women who loves her people tremendously and wants to see them do better and reach our full potential.

  • McKay

Well Said. My new favorite person in the rose garden. ??

  • NAYB

You get all that from Sandra Rose?? many titles (ie the mention of bleaching in this one) and many statements she makes are flat out lies… Lies and catty comments dont help ppl reach their full potential . It shows anger, insecurity, jealousy etc…but certainly not “love for her people” … You seem to have a very “rose -colored glasses ” perspective which is quite far fetched , but to each their own .

  • McKay

    ??? lmfao!!!

  • Shira Harding-James

And if she continues to find her self worth in people who didn’t care about her before the change in her outer appearance she is doomed!

  • i troll it like i see it

Is she really the same? Maybe the weight loss made her happier, and more pleasant to be around? Sometimes we don’t even know that we are radiating negativity do to poor self image.

  • Evillene

True. But that’s a very hard lesson. Self-worth comes from internal and external sources. If those who should have built you up (i.e. parents, families, lovers, etc.) tore you down instead your self-worth IS informed by how others see you. Self-esteem is hard to come by for Black women in a world that tells them they are useless.

  • TeeBee

Exactly! When you feel good about yourself it radiates and people are drawn towards you.

Also, reading her book Year of Yes adds so much to her story and you understand why she radiates now.

  • TeeBee

she did not bleach her skin. omg!

  • MsVet

Losing weight is fine but bleaching her face it doesn’t look like she did a Lil Kim and flucked it up!

  • Candance

    Thats sad :(

  • Shira Harding-James

    This is true

  • tynamight

I’m very uncomfortable w/ Black people choosing to bleach their skin. I’ll only accept it if one has Vitiligo. Period.

  • ?Patty Kakes?

No she didn’t find that. That what you thought. To the white folks your still the non-threatening fat black woman

  • McKay

Yes, I do. The many titles that I give did not come from this post alone. I’ve been following her since 2008. Someone reporting on an individual who chose to bleach their skin shows anger, jealousy, insecurity?? Sandra is not the one changing her skin tone for others. Nothing wrong with pointing out issues in our community. Ex, skin bleaching. You are fight…to each their own.

  • Jussjess25

O wow I didnt kno shw bleached ?

  • MRiGOThim

At least she genuinely looks happy

  • teather

    ha! blindly caping.

  • teather

I totally agree. And, if she is misguided enough to want to lighten her skin for real, totally her business. It’s more sad to me than anything else. I’d hate to self loathe like that. I LOVE being black and a woman more than anything I can ever imagine.
If I could change it, I would NEVER change it. The struggle and the beauty and the challenge all go hand in hand. It was meant to strengthen not break. I bend but never break. Inbred badness!

  • JanusMaximus

There is a “transracial” double-standard when it comes to skin-lightening and adapting a more mixed or Caucasian look as opposed to darkening and adapting a more Afrocentric look; Rachel Dolezal is considered outrageous for being Afrocentrically “transracial” but we have all these bleachers out here doing stuff like this and nobody causes a fuss about it.
