Jemele Hill

Jemele Hill is denying reports that she was demoted from SportsCenter and downgraded to blogging for ESPN's the Undefeated.

In a lengthy statement on Twitter.com, the outspoken former sports anchor claimed she is leaving SportsCenter because she asked to be a blogger.

"I have a few things to say," Hill tweeted on Saturday.

“While I am amused by the rumors that I was demoted, kicked off the 6pm SportsCenter or whatever else can be conjured, the truth is pretty simple and not nearly as dramatic,” Hill said.

She added that her background as a columnist for ESPN 11 years ago made her a better fit for blogging.

"While I have grown in every way imaginable this last year on the 6 p.m. SportsCenter, deep down I knew it wasn’t my calling," she said.

What she meant was, deep down she knew that her bosses weren't going to allow her to continue using SportsCenter's platform to express her left-wing political opinions.

In September, Hill called President Donald Trump "a white supremacist who has largely surrounded himself w/ other white supremacists."

She was suspended from SportsCenter for 2 weeks in October for tweeting about the NFL protests.

Hill, who was paid $1 million as a sports anchor, will earn her last paycheck from SportsCenter on Friday, Feb. 2.

Unfortunately for Hill, there are no million-dollar sports bloggers.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Everyone doesn't live for money. While it might be unfathomable for some people to think one would step away from such a hefty salary, for some, the money isn't worth it. People have been paid a lot of money and wind up stressed, depressed and sick because their high-paying jobs are distressful. Others quit their jobs to pursue their dreams of starting a new business. People call them crazy because they walked away from a "stable" paycheck to start their own business. They dared to take a risk. I think that makes a lot of people angry because they can't perceive how a person could have the courage to do that and maybe they are upset because they don't. In this day and age, a person can be fired at the drop of a hat, so nothing is guaranteed.

If Jemele is happy in her position, I congratulate and commend her for doing her whether people agree with it or not.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Jemele didn't "step away", she was pushed away. She was forced out and she settled for the blogging gig to save face. Jemele lacks discernment and common sense. Hopefully she will learn from this painful lesson.

  • TDK

Right because only the superbug and his gnats are allowed to say hateful things and get away with it. Thing is what she said is true AF!!

  • TDK

I agree, because all money isn good money. Walk away from things that take away your peace of mind. ?????

  • You Could Never

If this were the case why didn't you ask to go blog for them back when you were suspended? Took you 4 months to have some sort of come to Jesus with yourself? And ESPN can't most likely on advice from their attorneys, discuss staffing matters. So They can't dispute what you say or claim. So what you say isn't automatically truthful, it's just no one who can dispute it. There is a difference. And if you were totally done, you would leave ESPN entirely. You are still working for them. Whatever girl. I have and continue to think you are full of shit...but peace be unto you. Do you. Ive read Undefeated daily for eons and will continue to do so.

  • Noirluv45

    Exactly!

  • A D N

Your statement reminds me of Dave Chappelle. Money does not bring happiness. Giving (within reason) to others less fortunate does. I like money because it allows me to live a lifestyle I enjoy, stress free. .

  • Lorenzo Chaps
  • A D N

I wish her luck in her new position.

  • JRock

"Better fit for blogging"? Girl, you're still young so don't be a menace and become a serial liar while drinking your juice in the ESPN hood. Whenever the words "better fit" are used it is not coming from you, it's coming out of your bosses' mouth.

    Oh the lies.

  • Noirluv45

Right. He's a perfect example. I'm glad you brought him up.

  • You Could Never

This. Like if it were a whole new entity then ok. But you still at the same company. They still are going to monitor content. You still under the same rules. Nothing has changed

  • TMW

Like someone said on the last post about her DEMOTION - because that’s what it is - she recently renewed her contract with ESPN. The couldn’t or wouldn’t buy her out, but they wanted her off the air so she’s now blogging. The story will tell itself when her contract ends, and she “chooses” to keep blogging....or nah.

  • Scromes1212

The more she talk the more she seem full of sh*t smh just do you and stop trying to justify everything for twitter people

  • Scromes1212

Didn't he just get 60 million for 2 hours of work lol? Yeah he cares nothing about money smh

  • Noirluv45

That's now. She's talking about then.

  • JRock

    Exactly. So stop the lies!

  • JRock

    Exactly. So stop the lies!

  • A D N

Go sit down somewhere lol. Always trying to argue or debate something.

  • A D N

Wait, 60 million for 2 hours of work? Wow!!! That's his worth huh? Great.

  • Scromes1212

Just making an observation, not starting a argument or debate smh so sensitive

  • A D N

I know lol. Just playing with you.

    All good

  • ReadingIsFundamental4Real

I just made a career change and knew it would be a 20 to 30k pay cut. Going from the corporate bull of the financial world to county work. More fulfilling and I can live with myself doing it another 30 years. I'm not sure about I'm girl above but I wish her peace. Blah.

  • tintin

I havent been really following the story regarding this lady why is she being put down to a blogger position?? Because of her trump statement?? Or is she a diva?

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Jemele is a bit like Donald Trump: impulsive and narcissistic. But unlike Trump, she lacks discernment. Trump is impulsive but he also knows when he goes too far and he reigns himself in. Trump would not be in the position he is in if he was Jemele.

  • Noirluv45

DT is the last person on earth to "reign himself in," Sandra. He'll never apologize for anything he's said and any wrong he's done. I mean the mean was elected even after he said he grabbed women by the pu$$y, for crying out out. The man has made every kind of offensive remark, yet his supporters would vote for him again. If Obama behaved in any manner the way 45 has, he would've been out on his ears from day 1.

  • Li

Less stress. See, it makes sense to me. Do what you love and she probably wasn't a good fit for on air commentary. Better to put it in writing.

  • Li

Jemel is being honest with herself. As long as she's "at the top" she's going to be a target.

  • E-VannaRootsAllEvil

    I’ve It

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Since we're judging people on words they spoke years ago, you wanted to elect a woman who called black men "super predators" who needed to be brought to heel. Trump was joking, Hillary Clinton was not.

Yes, Trump will be elected again in 2020 because immigrants (who are mostly conservative) won't vote for a party who would allow boys to shower with their daughters.

  • Ryan
  • Ryan

Blogger or not I bet that she makes more money than most bloggers combined. She hasn't done anything to me so I wish her well.

  • Oretta Grace Smith

Especially when you have other promising choices. Give yourself that much!!!

  • Oretta Grace Smith

I just hope Jemele understands that she owes no one an explanation or excuse for her choice!!!

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

I guess you forgot this: "Obama instructed public schools to allow transgender students to use bathrooms and locker rooms that align with a child's feelings."

This is the reason Trump is president, because immigrants voted for him. There are more immigrants in this country than black people. The Cubans handed Florida to Trump and immigrants crushed the so-called blue wall and flipped blue states to red.

Why? Because immigrants - especially Hispanics - are conservatives who believe in traditional families and they tend to vote for the conservative party (Republicans).

Immigrants also like the Republican policies of lower taxes and smaller government.

  • Noirluv45

Sandra, my mother always told me, "You can never take back the words you say." In 45's case, he consistently says offensive words today. My mother also said, "Many a true word is spoken in jest." No, he wasn't joking because he's actions have followed his words. He actually did grab them by their pu$$ies.

Right, Hills did use that word, but when I voted, I voted for the lesser of two evils and she won. Sorry. Well, if the vote solely depending on immigrants, then maybe so, but the rest of us (maybe except White women) will NOT vote for him. Remember, Sandra, in spite of immigrants, Trump only got elected based on the electoral college, NOT the popular vote.

  • Noirluv45

Well, let's see if they vote for him being that he's trying to send the illegals back home even though they've been here all their lives. They saw a father be separated from his wife and children even though he's been here all his life. He's never lived in Mexico. I'm sure, after seeing the piss-poor job he's done this year, they might be double-checking their decision. I highly doubt they will vote on the gender issues alone.

  • Lorenzo Chaps

I've taken 5-10k pay cut before to be at peace. I can't imagine almost 30k. Damn. The good thing is you're happy with your decision and can see the light at the end of the career tunnel now.

  • ReadingIsFundamental4Real

Between me you and the keyboard, my husband's income helped me be able to make the decision. I'm a survivor first so with 2 kids, I would have stayed with the bull to feed my babies if I had to.

  • Ryan

Yes, many Hispanics voted for Trump and other republicans. Ironic that the ones who they voted in are working around the clock to kick them out and keep them out. TBH that's part of the reason why I've been indifferent about this DACA mess.

  • Ms. Evans

    Wow amazing why the change?

  • Shirley Baker

You have got to be kidding! DT doesn’t even know how to reign in anything. I believe Jemele and take her at her word that she would be better able to express herself as a blogger. DT wouldn’t know discernment if it hit him in the face.

  • NeverSurprised

If someone is here LEGALLY, then no one is working to keep them out. If someone is here ILLEGALlY, they have NO voting rights, so your argument is nonsensical.

Hispanics who are LEGALLY in this country voted for PRESIDENT Trump because they knew that, unlike the dems, he would institute economic policies to benefit them and other working Americans. And they were right.

Under PRESIDENT Trump, we now have the lowest Hispanic unemployment in recorded history, so of course they will vote to re-elect him.
    http://money.cnn.com/2017/12/08/news/economy/ivanka-trump-hispanic-unemployment-rate/index.html

Hispanics are not like blacks. Hispanics will not march like trained monkeys to the polls to pull wherever lever that dems
order them to. Hispanics will look at the DOLLARS and vote for the party that will provide jobs and economic policies that will help them provide a prosperous future for their children. Blacks are the only group that is too dumb to do the same.

President Trump has brought black unemployment down to its lowest level in history.
    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/2018/01/05/black-unemployment-rate-falls-to-record-low.html
Any other race of people would be happy about that and would seek out investments and other avenues to change their childrens' economic futures. Instead, blacks are running around worrying about jobs for illegals. That level of blind plantation obedience is what makes blacks the democrats' favorite lap dogs.

  • morenYAHdelsur

She’s tired of being censored. Not mad at her decision.

  • MsPam

Most Legal Hispanic can’t stand illegal Hispanics.

  • morenYAHdelsur

It’s not as though he’s said and done deplorable things in his youth, although I’m sure he was equally egregious then. He’s 71 now. He’s said some pretty foul things since turning 65! LOL a leopard doesn’t change its spots mayne.

  • shun king

not only did she call black men super predators her husband ushered in that three strikes law that got people getting life sentences for stealing bubble gum or getting caught with a 10$ hit of crack

  • Tgritty

Jesus lady, you can’t be serious. You are really working over time for them butter biscuits!

  • Ryan

The economy was doing extremely well under President Obama, but repubs dismissed it as not being important. NOW just before the State of the Union address an administration that has accomplished the least in modern times is grasping at straws to give this fat bigoted pervert talking points for Tuesday night.

And actually I'm pretty sure that I saw your exact same comment posted somewhere else earlier today and I think it was under a different name.

    Pitiful.

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

    I wish her well.
Not sure I 100% believe her story though.

  • JustB

There are man times when ur postion changes but ones salery stays the same...quit possibly her case

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

That's why I believe someone got through to Trump and explained to him that he's oppressing the very people who elected him to office. On Monday, he plans to announce new immigration reform to legalize Dreamers.

The bottom line is, regardless of Trump's immigration policies, the legal immigrants who are already here will vote him back into office in 2020. The reason is Hispanics are mostly conservatives. They believe in God and traditional family values. The Democratic party is a Godless party that believes in giving men in dresses more rights than biological women.

Immigrants will never vote for that.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Legal immigrants can't vote. I am British and living here on a permanent green card. That makes me a legal immigrant but I can't vote. The immigrants who become citizens of the U.S. are the ones who voted Trump into office. Trump can't kick them out.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Black people are the only race who consistently vote for their oppressors. Black people vote with their emotions while Hispanics vote for economic prosperity. I shook my head when JAY-Z said he didn't care if Trump brought black unemployment down because it's "not about the money". ?

  • MistaO

Black females just love to make supportive excuses for females shit..js. comments are pathetic.

I don't care what the situation is, no one on this age willfully walks away from 1 mill to blog for 50k, yea right...

    * demoted * i knew it as soon as i heard it. must not be able to talk about it as part of the deal.

ESPN started MASSIVE layoffs in April. They had another round of layoffs in November. It is obvious she was included in the group but instead entirely laying her off, they threw her a blogging bone. I don't see why she feels the need to lie about it. Probably because she has the usual massive ego of most high profile people, plus she knows there are people dumb enough to believe her.

UPDATE: THIRD ROUND OF LAYOFFS FOR ESPN IN NOVEMBER
The expected layoffs at ESPN started Wednesday, April 29, with the company reportedly set to release about 100 anchors, reporters, analysts and production staffers.

ESPN won’t release the names of on-air talent losing their high-profile jobs, according to SN's Michael McCarthy.

The network wants those people to be able to break the news to family, friends and colleagues in their own time and their own way.

It's funny how you keep trying to down play her role as just a 'blogger' yet other articles clearly state that she will be doing so much more. "Hill who will also provide on-air commentary for several ESPN programs, will be a chief correspondent and senior columnist for the Undefeated, ESPN’s platform devoted to race, culture and sport, according to the network."

kudos to you! I didn't take a pay cut but I would have...instead, I traded a 20 minute commute working in a corporate legal department for an hour and 15 minute commute working at a university. Better benefits, better environment, and a pension plan. I take the train so it isn't horrible but even if they had offered me 20 to 30k less, I would have taken it just to have peace of mind.

  • Noirluv45

Well, Sandra, the proof of the pudding will be in the eating in 2020. I find it ironic that Hispanics, who believe in God and traditional family values, would get behind someone like 45. He's the antithesis of those things. You say the Democratic party is a a Godless party...and the Republican party isn't? Seriously? You have evangelical "Christians" supporting a man who is a racist, xenophobic, rude, crude and everything else that doesn't measure up to Christ-like values and the Democratic party is Godless? The Republican party is the party who doesn't care about the poor. They are heartless and have no souls except for a few. Also, immigrants are the only voters. As you can see, Black women changed the face of voting in Alabama by voting in the first Democrat in decades. Trust me, 45 will probably be out, and I pray daily that he is. He may not even make it 4 years.

  • Dowoop

    Sounds about right!
