American pop star Lizzo landed her first number 1 hit with "Truth Hurts". Lizzo, real name Melissa Viviane Jefferson, originally released the song in September 2017.

The song was featured in the Netflix film Someone Great, which premiered in April. The song was subsequently added to Lizzo's critically acclaimed 2019 LP Cuz I Love You, which debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 in May.

Lizzo performed her hit song at Jay-Z's Made In America music festival in Philadelphia on Saturday. The festival was founded by Jay-Z in 2012.

Produced by Live Nation, the festival features several stages that continuously host live music from a wide range of genres.

Beyonce and Jay-Z watched Lizzo's set from the side of the stage. Beyonce looked like she was in awe of the full figured singer.

The 31-year-old Taurus previously asked fans and music writers to stop comparing her to Beyonce.

"There will never be a next Beyoncé. And I've worked too hard to be Lizzo to just become somebody else," Lizzo explained.

Cardi B was among the stars congratulating Lizzo on her first No. 1 hit.

She tweeted: "The fact that Lizzo a couple months ago felt underestimated and now she have a #1!!!!BITCH! take that!take that ! Makes me emotional .. It's the best feeling in the world."

I watched her Little Desk video on YouTube and became an instant fan?

  • CookieMobster

It's a great song with clever lyrics. She is kinda hard on the eyes with all the meat hanging out BUT... I do respect the fact that she is confident enough to do that. There are some skinny folks that can't do that. I mean this with the up most respect but, don't be a hater babe!! ??

  • CookieMobster

I love this song. LOL my brother sent me the You Tube vid the other day and said she is 100% you, and this song gets me pumped as hell. Lol I do think it's an awesome song with clever lyrics!!

  • Phillybruh

Sent my kids to the festival, they both seemed very entertained by it all.

    GO GIRL!

That song will officially be two years old as a release on Sept 19th (released 2017). This aint NOTHING but folks bandwagon jumping. Im glad it worked out for her in the end, bc I want this sis to win.

But a song being out for two years making it to number one is these days almost UNHEARD OF.

  • Phillybruh

That had hater all in the post...lol

  • Facts and Receipts

I actually like her and the song but just said that as well. This is crazy a song out for 2 years.

  • SomeonesMrs

That's a terrible picture up top. I think she's pretty. I'm sure if you caught any of us in an awkward pose we'd be hard on the eyes

  • Dahl

Good for her. I’m late, but I like her...

  • Blaque Mahogany

I'm happy for her. Didn't realize she was a "rapper".

The song is ok. I'm trying to figure out if people really like her music or really like her personality and confidence.

Someone said Atlantic must own Billboards. That made me chuckle.

  • $52539570

I'm happy for her...Truth Hurts is one of my favorite songs from her, so I'm glad she got a number one on this song.

  • Blaque Mahogany

  • T Willis

They also like it when Beyonce and Cardi entertain them too lol

  • Angela Marsh

Goodness. Is it too hard to be happy for someone and celebrate their success that we all know does not come easy. Why is it that every time someone succeeds that is black, they are dissected and scrutinized as opposed to being applauded???? She is a beautiful woman with a radiant personality, she plays the flute, she's part intelligent, part hood and very entertaining. Is that not enough???? Congrats to the beautiful Lizzo!!!! It's very refreshing to see a new face and a different body type. It's obvious that she is exercising, she is motivating all the big chicks and helping folks w their self esteem. It's ok to be happy for others......THERE IS NOTHING NEGATIVE TO SAY, KEEP THAT ENERGY FOR YOUR PRESIDENT "45"....i KNOW, CRICKETTS! SMH.

  • Conservative

She needs to lay off the gravy! Got damn that's an Orca!

  • Kimberly King

Good for her. I like the song and the video. She's getting money now so don't be surprised if she magically slims down. No shame in wanting to be healthy.

  • Kimberly King

Right ! I had heard the song way before it became popular. Now it's in a plethora of commercials. But hey, more money for her.

  • http://www.pureromance.com LA

    Yassss!!!

  • Kimberly King

I used to be fat, so I was shading her at all. I know we all gotta die someday but I didn't wanna die over obesity and cheeseburgers. So ya girl had to change her ways.

Secretly lose the weight the slow and healthy way and completely seize this extraordinary time. I know Lizzo can do it. Anyone with her immense talent can do anything she puts her mind to including losing weight to be at her all around best.

  • shay2shaymd

That was great! Thanks for sharing.

  • Evillene

    Dancer?

  • speakinmymind

    "Passionate"...so that's what we're calling it now? ????

  • disqus_FW7pCIigCY

This is my opinion, and again I stand by what I said, she's not different from most loud mouth rappers..her SCHTICK IS HER WEIGHT..that's what makes her different.

  • http://www.pureromance.com LA

    Okay. Your right. Your opinion.

  • LoveChild

    I totally agree with you.

  • LoveChild

5 with my vote. Not all of us black people are riding for obesity. When I see her all I see is a big fat ass chick influencing a lot of fat ass chicks not to go on a diet and dress like clowns.
Regardless of how they package her obesity isn’t cute.

  • Peppermint Patty

Maybe not to your liking but everyone isnt beholden to a categorical BMI chart and if ny undercover man can be out here chasing trans her overeating(and all the women she is influencing) is fair game

  • What???

This bytch is like the fat big mama version of Jonelle Monae. She needs to do a song on diabetes

  • LoveChild

Do YOU, chick. Be obese AF!! Too many BW obese out here raising the next generation of obese and sick Black girls.

Notice no MEN in here co-signing that they want a morbidly obese female?!

Fat BW and evil white female feminist are the main ones obesity enabling BW? being obese like Lizzo ain’t cute and ain’t healthy.

BTW its EXPENSIVE to be obese as you know yourself. Big costs on food clothes and HEALTH.

  • LoveChild

She IS morbidly obese. Ok sounds but a big greasy mammy clown archetype. As a BW I find her embarrassing.

  • Knocked Kneed and Pigeon Toed

    That's dope!!!

  • Peppermint Patty

See...big girls that lose weight be so funny acting with selective memories. Thank you Dr. Oz...you obviously feel very strongly about that. PTSD perhaps... so I concede. You are absolutely right!! Good for you

  • LoveChild

Obviously you’re triggered and I’ve never been fat nor obese thank God I have self control over food and exercise regularly.

  • Peppermint Patty

Yay for you and the self control you are clearly demonstrating with this back and forth. Now we can agree. You: fat people are ugly me: ehhh not really but if u say so. End of conversation. Now, go enjoy your normal size girl friday.

  • B.Loveitt

I'm like " You only heard yourself and thought that comment was good. Buy go to the mirror and see how stupid you sound saying that dumb shut. Stop being mad because she can probably pull your ni@#a and not even want him. Go sit you mad angry chick for no reason at all." ??????
