What’s wrong with being one of the folks?

Hi all. While surfing the Internets, I spotted this cover of Newsweek featuring a smiling Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

There’s an uproar brewing over the line “She’s one of the folks – and that’s the problem.” But for the life of me, I can’t figure out why everyone is so upset about that line.

Can someone explain the problem to me and to others who might be equally as confused?
