Lizzo revealed the secrets of her dramatic body transformation in a cover story for Women’s Health magazine. The 37-year-old superstar opened up about her “weight release” journey in the Summer 2025 issue of Women’s Health.

“It’s okay to release weight… and it’s okay to gain it back,” she told Women’s Health.

Lizzo said she struggled with self-esteem while facing backlash from fans shaming her for losing pounds. “What you’re not gonna do is shame me,” she said.

Lizzo lost over 60 pounds and she’s well on her way to her weight goal of 150 pounds.

“I wanted to be ‘big-girl skinny,'” she said. “Every big girl knows what I’m talking about. Big-girl skinny is 250 pounds.”

Lizzo explained she started doing Pilates and detoxed her body and her mind. She ate mostly bread, soy, cashew cheese, and meat substitutes that made her feel dizzy due to lack of vitamins and nutrients. “I wasn’t getting the nutrients I needed,” she said.

Lizzo opted for a balanced diet that focused on protein and produce, such as scrambled eggs and chicken sausage for breakfast, and Thai chicken salad or lettuce wraps stuffed with tuna or sliced chicken breast for lunch.

For dinner, she ate turkey meatloaf with cauliflower, mashed potatoes and green beans. She always ate her last meal before 5 p.m. to give her stomach time to digest the food.

Meat takes more than 5 hours to digest in the stomach.

“I have GERD [gastroesophageal reflux disease], so my body needs time to digest food before I go to sleep, so acid doesn’t roll up to my throat,” she explained.

Lizzo is also working on managing her anxiety and her struggles with binge eating.

“There were times when I would eat so much that my stomach hurt. When I was done, I would be so uncomfortable, I couldn’t breathe and wouldn’t let anyone know. I would hide it,” she said. “I had so much food noise and connected so much emotion to food. If I were sad, anxious, stressed, or working a lot, I would snack and just eat constantly. And then I would wait for everybody to leave, secretly order two separate meals on a food delivery site, then order dessert on a separate one.”
