Yesterday I decided to take the day off and go handle my business (literally). Now that the election is over, I finally decided how to invest my money (my broker was SHOCKED to see me show up at the bank unexpectedly after calling me umpteen times to come in).
Anyway, yesterday was the first time in my life that I experienced what it must have been like for black people living in the 60s. The many whites that I encountered were not happy, to say the least.
One white man went ballistic at a black female teller at Bank of America’s Buckhead location. I have never seen that happen before at that location.
I tried to joke with a Korean man in line behind me about the long wait at BofA, but he totally ignored me and averted his eyes to avoid making eye contact.
Most whites that I encountered yesterday made eye contact with me a bit longer than normal — almost as if they expected me to say or do something. They neither smiled nor said hello — which was unusual. The awkwardness was palpable.
I also heard from a loyal reader yesterday who said she went to work at 8:30 am only to learn that she, along with 4 co-workers (two of them white) had been laid off. She said they were all Obama supporters. And since two of them were white she couldn’t claim discrimination.
Unfortunately, Georgia is an at-will state, meaning employers can fire employees at will and they don’t need a reason.
Welp, so much for Obama bringing this country together and overcoming the racial divide.
Did you get laid off yesterday or do you know anyone who was laid off for supporting Obama? Did you have any awkward moments yesterday with people of another race?
I don’t have any coworkers but my hubby has a few hundred, he said the same thing. The white ppl did not make eye contact and looked dazed.
Regardless of at will or not if you are fired due to a political belief that is discrimination and it is actionable…thats the ignorance that is killing us thinking htat the discrimination only happens to black people.
Come to the cocolate city (DC) cause as far as I have seen its all love, there was dancing in the street by all races on Tuesday!!!

Nothing out of the norm here. Just the same ol look down at the floor when you say “good morning” or not speaking at all, or the same ol nastiness of them being in the cafeteria and bringing a spoonful of banana pudding UP TO THEIR NOSE TO SNIFF it and putting the spoon back in the tray and me staring at them with such disgust and sickness in my eyes, and then tsk tsk and shaking my head as I gather my food (which was covered by the way) and walking away.
Nope nothing awkward, just the same ol stuff.
Good morning Auntie and SR fam.
Well that is to be expected, but dont let others hate, encourage you to act the fool. We need to keep banning together for the entire country, not just the rich, wealthy and mostly white.
i shoulda known. this was gonna happen. the spin move.
Sandra Sandra Sandra. What is going on in that mind of yours my sister? I don’t know if you are just throwing out ridiculous, devisive statements to get us riled up or your really believe this mess you are saying. Of course SOME people are upset their candidate lost. I know how it feels. I didn’t vote for Bush either time and I was very disappointed in my fellow American’s when he won. I imagine that is how McCain supporters feel. They believed in their candidate. Barack’s supporters are not all black. They are not even mostly black. And ain’t nobody get laid off for being a Barack supporter. That is an ironclad lawsuit. Are you really tripping or are you playing with us? Girl, why can’t you just be happy about this historic moment?
@ prynsexx – Do we work at the same company?
I thought that only happens here!
I live in VA and work for the gov’t. It was mainly business as usual. I know for a fact if the election had of went McCain’s way there would have been a lot more talks then what it was. Anyway they aren’t gonna still my joy. Sandra maybe the Korean man didn’t speak english. Just a though!!!
I did, but I work in Forsyth County Georgia.
I was off yesterday …
anywhoo…
@ browni & prynn … taht is why I bring my own home-cooked food in all the time.
And of course commuting in to work there were long faces, but nothing to major outside of one incident in which an employee was sent home for ranting about the results.
It is what it is … people have to wake up and deal with it, and it will get better in time.
I could care less if the next person speak sot me, its always my attitude prior to election and after. It doesn’t affect me if a YT person doens’t acknowledge me and if they act rude in a public place, trust me the situation would be handled with grace.
So what you suggest keep sucking the white man’s d**k so that these bama asses will say hello to you? Sorry it won’t change the fact that you ARE black, always will be and they will always look at you as a monkey no matter how much ass you kiss. They can look at me all crazy if they want because I will slap the ish outta their mouth if they say anything sideways. If they fire you get another job, make your own ish pop off, that is the difference between those that make ish happen and those that watch. Rosa sat in front of the bus which allows us to do the things we do today, after she did it, ish wasn’t pretty for awhile but that is what it takes.
You can choose to be obedient and let them keep being your master because at the end of the day, they are just pissed off because their mental stronghold is now breaking apart and they have to accept that we will have equal power.
You have to fight for what you believe and fights with Usher don’t count.
Both the white folks and black peeps were elated yesterday.
Oh and for the record. Korean people are not friendly period. They don’t speak unless its money involved
How can Sandra get you guys to fall into this trap 61% of the votes that Obama got was from WHITE people so why should they be made? It was the young WHITE people who won the election for Obama not the blacks because we are outnumbered. Think people!!!!
I am in need of a history lesson in the Nader post… Also no one spoke yesterday at my company. Then they came around. I am one of 5 black people in all of IT. They never have much to say plus we are doing budget cuts so we won’t have to lay off people.
Yesterday I smiled at every white person I saw, while giving them the thumbs up. I didn’t get any smiles back, though.
Did you have any awkward moments yesterday with people of another race?
—————————————-
sometimes i have awkward moments with folks of the same race…..every day that i come to this site. but i still keep coming. and the world keeps turning.
luvly1957 is right….WHITE people voted for Obama. Georgia is a RED state so yeah white folks there are mad. The white people I have run into are all happy as hell. let’s think and have some intelligence about this election.
It was business as normal here in Columbus, Ohio yesterday. I expected some awkwardness but there was none. Though we can suspect those individuals were laid off due to their political affiliations, we don’t have any proof. There have been 760,000 jobs lost in America since January and economists are forecasting more before the end of the year. This wave of lay-offs started before Obama and should not be blamed on him or accomplishment.
He isn’t even president yet (which is why he is referred to as “president-elect), so why don’t we wait until January 21st before we start dogging him and commenting on whether he is bringing the country together or not!!!
speaks to me***
@ Fenix .. Sandra isn’t going to wait. She can’t say one positive thing about him, but it doens’t matter if she does or doesn’t becuase 64,058,829 supported him … Sandra’s support isn’t going to make or break. Mr. Barack Obama president elect …

I found it business as usual yesterday. I work for the state so I’m always dealing with the pompous YT attitudes. Folks were mad, but they had sense enough to keep their thoughts to themselves. One co-worker though looked like he literally shyted himself just trying to avoid my “Hello Good Morning!”
haha dblaq – You have to fight for what you believe and fights with Usher don’t count.
I almost missed that.
Funny

Right, so is auntie on TEAM OBAMA now….
Leave it to Sandra to try to shine some negative light on this great accomplishment! I read your blog everyday and I never knew why, but the more and more I read it, the more I understand why I should stop. You are definitely part of the problem that Obama preaches about… You are worried about the wrong things. It is obvious that if you are even telling the truth that you went out looking for the negativity yesterday as that is why you probably did not post anything because for the first time in a long time the majority of us were smiling and actually feeling hope in our lives. If you really do feel like this and this is not just for entertainment, then I think you should check yourself! Because you totally MISSED the whole picture of what just happened Tuesday, most of us simply felt like WE did something!!! Especially President Elect Barak Obama, he worked his ass off the make it to that CEO position..it didn’t just happen, now he has to show an prove!! Is it that hard to give him a chance? Instead of spreading the negativity, it would have been an harmonious move to post the e-mail circulating with the unified loving reactions around the world!! I understand that McCain supporters are pissed, but welcome to the real world…we have all been there!! Some of us, for our whole lives! Sandra you have a great platform, is the only way you can make money on your blog is by posting negative post? Is the only thing your mind can process is hate for another’s success? That is what I get from your site…and that is definitely not the state of mind I want to be in!!! I try to see the good in people, but you are just the worst!
nah. what i meant is she takes something and spins it to get us riled up. i think @bird on post #7 said it best….as she usually does.
My co-worker asked me if there is any predujices within my race… I didn’t even know what to say… I mean it’s so obvious.
Everyone was kind of quiet.
Well I work for a law firm and as my dept was preparing to leave we were asked to stay for a 2 min meeting…long story short NO MORE BONUSES!!! This means the monthly bonus, X-Mas bonus…NOTHING!! And this was 11/4/08 @ about 5pm Then on 11/5/08 the primary partner of the firm kept his door closed and wouldn’t talk to any of us. To make the day a lil worse quite a few of the calls I took were from ppl wanting to file charges b/c their home had been vandalized b/c of the outcome of the election…and most of them knew who did it (a damn neighbor)…ATL you have got to do better!!!! Just keep brushing your sholders off ppl…it will get worse before it gets better
You can all move to my beautiful city of CHICAGO, where we’re all happy that Obama won. It’s kumbaya over here!

Awkard moments? Everyday I come in here is an awkard moment. I’m the only black engineer here and I’m a woman. There is always another meeting that takes place before or after the “real” morning meeting. (i.e. Why the F##K are we even discussing this, since you already decided at the smoke shack how the hell we where going to proceed??) Sorry, I digress!
BTW, Nutrasweet in Augusta just started laying people off yesterday and it’s continuing today. Best believe it not because of who won the election and folks’ political persuasion. The economy is in the toilet, thanks to our previous adminstration.
Obama 2012!
up here in NYC everyone was just happy. at the election center at rockefeller center, everyone was there tuesday night with obama/biden signs. the business men looked a little worried but regular everyday folks like myself who are getting beat down with the economy smiled. in dc my friend told me that people were walking by her giving the fist sign and just smiling at eachother. i think all the states that mccain won will be giving us attitude.
and i cosign with @dblaq. only time i get acknowledged by a korean is when they are trying to talk me into the getting a more expensive pedicure at the nail shop. other than that it is “sign your name. we will be right with you.” when i walk in with my daughter, momma, and myself and they know i am about to drop some dough on services they *instantly* find some conversation for me.
and no this is not a racial statement as i know a.) the ones at my shop really ARE korean and b.) even my mom noticed and commented on it.
@ iyonah
and wrap it in plastic, put your name on it and hide it in the frig b/c those folk will swipe your food too…
down right nasty.
I DIDN’T GET LAID YESTERDAY BUT HOPEFULLY TODAY I WILL!!!
OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!
WOW – it must be good to live in So. Cal. – I didn’t experience any of that here. But then again people are not so open about their racism here…very open about their sexuality, but not their racism…go figure.
Wow, the spin machine doesn’t stop. So is it Black people fault that some whites and others have a problem with Obama being in office? I know when I came to work yesterday, both of the owners took off (white) and the day b4 the election they were in here talking alot of shit about mccain should win. lol Only time will tell. And why not vent about how the korean treated you instead of contributing it to Obama.. I mean come on, so because the chinese lady yesterday didn’t speak to me, am i to assume that its because obama won? hell no they don’t speak anyway..
Ok, Sandra you are one of those folks who love Obama so much you took the day off.
Sandra, I don’t know about all that so called 60’s stuff you’ve been experiencing since Obama won.
I live in VA and as you know we really showed out for the election because VA usually votes republican. I haven’t experienced anything different from YT’s since Obama won the election. Everybody actually seems happy and excited because it feels like a change is on the way, its not gonna be an overnight change but it will happen with some work and determination.
And as far as the lay off situation, I don’t believe Obama winning is the cause of someone getting laid off. Rememeber the economy is still jacked up. I know that Circuit City is laying off people at about 155 stores (Circuit City’s corporate office is here in Richmond, VA)
Hell yeah it was awkward in the office…..and also funny too, because it’s silly, inmature, and plain ole ignorant racism…….F uc k’em though…….2 legit 2 quit…..
My state is also a red(neck) state too……Alabama #1
Auntie,
I am really surprised at your boldness in the things that you say, afterall most of your readers are Obama, excuse me again Mr. President, supporters. You would think that some of the things you say might offend us and make us not visit your site, but we have tough skin and right now it is good to be in the skin I am in. Obama, Obama, Obama, Obama, and when you approach Michelle Obama or mention her name, it is now First Lady. hahahaha
For once, I’m with Autie.
Now, i don’t think that every white person that doesn’t speak to me is upset about Obama winning. I didn’t take her statements to blame Obama. It’s just a testament that we’ve come a long way but we still have a long way to go. For those who don’t live in urban areas or Obama’s hometown -people have serious attitudes.
My office is never quiet.. and all I could hear yesterday was the damn heat. It was comical too because had that have been american idol, that’s all I would have heard about. But not the presidential elections… can’t talk about that.it’s like they sent out an email to everyone but my sister, my aunt and myself not to discuss it. This bytch did tell me to quit smiling and I had to check her azz real quick. Any other day she’s calling me smiley because I don’t smile in this bytch. That was the only pass I issued yesterday.
Well people we have to realize that racism is alive and well, they have had there way so long, they don’t know how to act. Take a spoiled child for instance, try and take something away from them or tell them no. They don’t know how to act, they are more so afraid of not knowing, than of what is reality. (We) know that Mr. President can only do so much, we are just happy that we see some color in that White House, once you go black or (Barack) you never go back. hahaha
are you kidding me?? as if you didn’t see the last post,before you took the day off!! you had like 300 some post of difrent stories that took place after the election
@ brownii — you are right about that – people can def be triflin.
It only shows the true nature of some. I’ve noticed a change in the way some whites act, but its usually the older ones… The younger white generation for the most part are happy with the idea. I talked to a white chick today and she was saying how her and all of her friends are happy, but her parents aren’t cause they where mccain supporters… Oh well too late, we in there. Also did you see the worldwide reaction = priceless.
@hermosa
You can all move to my beautiful city of CHICAGO, where we’re all happy that Obama won. It’s kumbaya over here!

I had a great day at work and I am the only Black. Everyone supported Obama minus the Partners that own the company. They are Jewish and they were big McCain supporters. But they were very positive yesterday they bought Giordano’s for the office in support of our new President. If folks were mad they kept it to themselves. Chicagoans really came together!
all is well in chicago…EVERYONE seems happier than normal…
more newspapers had to be printed, free food, haircuts and all types of items are being given out…
i’m pissed i didn’t get in on the “obama” merchandising…i could’ve made some nice dough!
i can’t wait until this weekend so i can really party…
I must say, yesterday seemed so peaceful, sun out, no clouds, everyone spoke to one another. I work in Beverly Hills, where there are many white, wealthy individuals. Not once have I seen anyone upset or being disrespectful.My white coworkers (some of them) even wore there Obama gear; shirts, hats, pins. I sat at my desk just crying tears of joy as I sat there and thought about what has happened. I’m proud to be an American now. I can feel the power our country can pull together. We can reinvent this nation, shoot, ourselves, too. But I know it starts with us, mostly, my generation. I’m ignoring all negativity and ignorance…the texts about “white ppl reporting to the cotton fields for oreintation today at 7.” 15 ppl forwarded that tp me…they could have kept it.as much as I like to clown, I couldn’t find it funny. We are much better than that. Just pray for President Obama and our country, for his protection and strength in this journey. For our strength in this journey. Luv ya cyber fam…peace
I definitely got some crazy looks here in AZ yesterday, it’s all good though.. nothing could have made me mad though.
Good morning Sandra, for what you write, it seems my experience in DC the day after Obama was elected the 44th President was much, much more positive than yours. My boss, who is a white female and also voted for Obama, gave me a hug when I said to her: It’s “HUG A WHITE PERSON” day. All my white friends and colleagues thought it was hilarious, as well as my black friends. I guess the atmosphere is so positive because 97% of DC voted for Obama. Millions and millions and millions of white Americans also voted for him, except for maybe the south. Good ole southerners, just can’t seem to turn that racism chip loose but in due time, perhaps another hundred yrs, they will. Overall, America is happy or at least hopeful that we have a new administration that’s not Republican. I sure am. Peace.
Mzsuave I got the same stupis a s s text message too, that is too ignorant! I had to put folks in check.
Good Morning Everyone
@ Mzsuave:
Can you please tell me the joke about the white people reporting to the cotton field today – I promise I wont tell anybody you told me
i meant stupid
Sandra,
I work in Atlanta and live in McDonough which is a one hour commute. I work for one of the largest healthcare systems here. The community where I work is mostly wealthy caucasians and believe me, the patients that come in and out of our clinics are old and very racist. The Administrator is a white male, he’s in his early 30’s, one of the good ole boys got him his job because he has no clue of how to run a clinic. He told his staff that if he hears anyone talking about the election, he would send them home. Sandra is absolutely correct about Georgia being a “fire at will” state.
Now, In my immediate office, everyone was super excited especially a bunch of the caucasians. I was surprised!
I received that same stupid text about white folks reporting to the cotton fields for orientation. It’s stupidity like this that continues to plague our people. Put a end to this mess and move forward. We are in a new era and we must make a change!
Here in NJ all is well aside from one snide comment from a yt guy who I already knew is racist but that was expected because he lives in N.C. and travels here every week to work. He was heated his district went democratic. LOL at him.
IF folks are being laid off/fired/looked at crossed eyes – that is not PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA’S fault. The fault lies solely with the ignorance of those who choose to be angry and bitter and take it out on other people.
Nothing happened differently in my work space yesterday and I’m in the South – Dallas to be exact.
Sandra, I really feel for you in the fact that you have to be completely 100% negative about this whole thing. We know you do not like Obama – but seriously-you want people to report to you if they have had a negative experience because of all of this? You are acting like the biggest crab at the bottom of that lonely barrel.
Yesterday at my job, I had a white lady tell me that Obama is not black. I had to get her straight. I had to let her know that they will not rejoice in this victory. I had to bring her back to the slavery days when if you had a drop of black blood in you, you were black. I had to also let her know that they even made up names so that they could be anything but white. Mulatto, tragic mulatoo, octoroon and all sorts of things of that nature. Now they want to say that he is half white. She quickly said, well I am just saying what they are saying. I told let them know what I said. Yes, this is an accomplishment for all people but let’s not make the mistake of getting it twisted. But other than that everyone was happy!!!!!!!! And I live in Texas.
I smell bullshit.
Period.
Good Morning Family
Hope all is well with you guys!!!!!

Your response should have been:
“If he’s not black, then why are you so mad?”
Reverse psychology. LOL I will flip the script on somebody in a minute.
I live in KY it was very awkward yesterday. Everyone was quiet no one was making eye contact and no one spoke yesterday. Black people were elated. Things are a lot better today.
I was disappointed that more people weren’t happy at a great thing in history the better man won.
@62 – Tell your coworker that if Obama’s not black (enough), then his wife, two kids and mother in law are definitely black and ALL of them Black folk are going to be sleeping in the White House.
I don’t know if Michele’s mom is really coming or not – but if it were me, she’d sure be moving her things to DC too.
i dont give white people the power, so what they pissed. good.
“Most whites that I encountered yesterday made eye contact with me a bit longer than normal — almost as if they expected me to say or do something.” ~ This is EXACTLY what i experienced….not necessarily hate but just like they expected me to go buck wild or something. I let them down and proceeded to act as I do EVERY day…wth?
And that’s prob. EXACTLY why you don’t hear ANYONE at my job speak on politics. It’s a very personal and private subject. Unless you are speaking to someone directly and discreetly about it you don’t hear people randomly voicing their opinions or who they are supporting. Personally I think it should remain that way in the work place as it helps you keep a professional environment.
I’m the only African American at my job and everyone was very happy at my job of the outcome.
Did you have any awkward moments yesterday with people of another race?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Honestly…if I did have any ackward moments I didn’t pay it any mind. I really don’t care if other ethnicities are offended Obama will be the next USA President…I have been offended for the past 8 years that a majority of our country would prefer an idiot in the White House rather than a qualified candidate.
I heard some negative comments but only from young, spoiled White children that don’t understand struggle or the state this country is in because:
1. They don’t have a mortgage nor rent to pay…Mommy and Daddy takes care of that.
2. They are not enrolled in a College nor University therefore they don’t understand that the cost to get a quality education is more expensive than ever.
3. Mommy and Daddy has bought there vehicles.
4. Mommy is the reason they have any employment whatsoever.
and
5. The majority of people they surround themselves with are fellow dummies.
Therefore, in my eyes their opinions simply are not revelant…
Well I live in Georgia and on election day all my coworkers were very friendly and were encouraging each other to go out and vote. It was a totally different atmosphere Wednesday morning. Most of my coworkers were excitrd that Obama won and the others were less than thrilled. At the high school two students who had on Obama t-shirts were sent home. These two young ladies aare very good students and also happen to be daughters of 2 pastors in our town. White students were saying things like “f*** Obama” and so forth. All the students were searched Wednesday morning before entering the building and their lockers were searched that afternoon and they were not permitted to go to them after school but sent directly to the buses for dismissal. I am just speechless. I guess it takes something historical like this to open your eyes to how people really feel about our race.
Did you have any awkward moments yesterday with people of another race?
HERE IN THE UK, THE VIBE IS POSITIVE AND ELECTRIC. I HAD PEOPLE STOPPING ME ON MY WAY TO WORK, SAYING (GOOD MORNING, HAVE A SPLENDID DAY). MY LOCAL CORNER SHOP OWNER GAVE ME A BOTTLE OF WINE FOR FREE, AND WE EVEN CRACKED JOKES ON HOW OBAMA SOULD REPAINT THE WHITE HOUSE BLACK (LOL).
INFACT THE ATMOSPHERE IS UNBELEIVABLE. I AND MY HUSBAND HAVE NOW DECIDED WE WOULD LIKE KIDS. SO SANDRA, THERE WEREN’T ANY AWKWARD MOMENTS OR SITUATIONS. IGNORE THE HATERS,THEIR HATRED IS JUST A REFLECTION OF WHAT IS GOING IN THEIR LIVES. REMEMBER LOVE IS WHAT CAN MAKE THIS (CHANGE) HAPPEN.
SO (YES WE CAN), WE CAN ACTUALLY LOVE THE HATERS -))*
That’s because we can be a very antagonizing race. we must understand the difference between being “happy” about what this represents and having a sense of “we won, we won”. That attitude alienates society and we quickly pose ourselves as the enemy. Even during the primaries I would see Black people with buttons saying “my presidents Black”. Again that is beyond pride and as a conquering spirit.
I work in a majority white location. There are approximately 55-60 people that I work directly with and know very well. I will say that there was a great divide among candidate supporters that was parallel to race. The whites more often than not, supported McCain but naturally, they all claimed that race was not a factor. For most of them, I believed them.
Most of the blacks tended to support Obama. One thing I will say is that a friend that works with me and is black said that she didn’t experience any out of hand issues or attitudes though she said things were very quiet and NO white employees even mentioned POLITICS at all! lol That was amusing to me considering thats all they have talked on a daily basis for the entire year!
My co-worker did say that a particular white co-worker that I am very close to remained true to his normal persona and didn’t respond any different to her though he supported McCain. I’m happy to know that because he’s proving why I’m so crazy about him (and hold a slight crush)!!!
Well Sandra you never stop when you have it in for someone. What logical person really thinks that Obama is going to change the mind of people that deem themselves superior or that are bigots? People have their minds made up and it’s just beautiful that enough positive energy was set forth to elect a man that is capable of being a conduit of change. All of your venom will be swallowed and go straight to your stomach, Sandra. It’s going to burn a hole is your soul.
Anywho~
My day was as any other–the white folks that don’t speak didn’t and the folks that didn’t like Obama still didn’t. And?
@ goat76 I cosign that…..I am currently in Alabama and these good ol’boys are mad. You know how you can look a person in the face and their face has that tight angry look? Ha, I was laughing all day yesterday and today because its sad and ridiculolus at the same time. These people need to grow uo and stop being so bitter. The people that voted wanted to and they chose: BARACK OBAMA
i’m live in l.a. and work in entertainment so everyone around me is happy with the outcome. democrats have been faced with disappointment for two terms (not to mention feeling robbed since one of the elections appeared to be fixed). still, we were optimistic that change would come and faced to accept whatever presidential candidate prevailed. i just hate to hear that the majority of some [red] states around the country aren’t as progressive in their attitude. let’s move on together (b/c there is no other choice) and work on getting this country back on track!
I live in Chicago and everyone I know, black, white, indian, hispanic, asian all voted for Obama. The rally downtown had plenty of white people with their kids all screaming for Obama. Me and this Indian lady were searching for a newspaper on the day after. So no, I haven’t experienced any of that.
I’m from atlanta but I’m a travel nurse in phoenix, arizona. I must say yesterday started off really good. I got to work very excited, feeling really good. Then I started noticing that some of the people, who are usually very friendly and saying good morning, didn’t say anything. I smiled and continued on but as the day went on, I became upset. Yes, I was born and raised in georgia. I know what racism is and has experienced it first hand but I never expected to hear the chief of anesthesia say in the hallway loud enough for everyone to hear. “You can’t tell black people nothing now” I was like no he didn’t. Then another person from anesthesia told a joke in the lounge. “yeah, their calling all hunters and people with guns to Washington cause there’s a coon in the White House!” I did not hear him first hand but he said it in front of a white nurse who told me. He doesn’t know that she has a black daughter in law and that her daughter’s son is black. She said she was upset that he just assumed it was ok to speak that way in front of her. My dilemna is what to do. My problem with them is this. You can think anyway you want but when you are in a position of power(putting patients to sleep) how do we know that your prejudices won’t interfere with your job. I am one of 4 blacks in that dept at the hospital. One of the other blacks told me to lower my voice cause they don’t like it. I looked at her like, she was crazy. I’m getting my letter together to write to the CEO. (something similiar happened at a hospital in atlanta near perimeter mall lol and it was a white employee making comments about black employees. she did not get fired but she had to attend a cultural sensitivity course. go figure.) I don’t know if it will be effective, but I got to do something. I don’t want to come off as the Angry Black Woman, that they think we are. But if I write a letter, how effective will it be since I got the comment second hand. I just needed to share this.
WELL DATS GEORGIA FOR YOU NOTICE OBAMA DIDNT WIN GA !! OBAMA IS THE PRESIDENT SAY WHAT TO WANT LIKE IT OR NOT TOO BAD I SAT THUR MANY YEARS OF NOT LIKING SOMETHING GET OVER IT. SO DON’T BLAME OBAMA FOR GA GA IS WHAT IT IS AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN
