Video of a recent race debate between MSNBC’s Pat Buchanon and Dr. Eric Michael Dyson that got a little heated.
Mr. Buchanon broke it down:
White folks in America are not responsible for the 70% illegitimacy rate in the black community Whites are not responsible for the fact that African Americans commit crimes at 7 times the rate of white Americans Whites are not responsible for the fact that many more children in the African American community (75%) are born out of wedlock All of these things are the responsibility of the African American community. And its leaders should address the problems in their own community and stop blaming folks who aren’t responsible, i.e., white people.
Didn’t watch the video but the title gets an “AMEN” from me!
Amen .. and waiting for the Media to “find” some incrimidating info on Pat Buchanan
I did not watch the video either, but he is right. We can not blame the white man for those things. No one is forcing black folks to keep screwing without condoms while they are not married and producing all of these kids.
The overall playing field is NOT and has NOT ever been fair/even that being said we know this from day ONE so we all need to do what we can to make our community better. It’s also about resources when it comes to schools/education. Kids shouldn’t have to suffer cause their parents live in a low income area with little tax $$$ going to the schools.
As far as the criminal justice system again the playing field is not fair and we know this and they know this. Lil Bobby won’t see juvy or the pen on a 1st offense or be put in probation but we all know Tyrone will 99% of the time. Again its about resources.
I wish you would’ve turned the comments off on this subject…
I don’t even have the energy to debate this mess.
400+ years…
They gave us welfare, drugs to sell & use to ruin our community, ended segregation but wouldn’t allow us to own anything.
I may get flack for saying this but we were better off being segregated.
It’s a little more complicated, but if he did in fact say this (Sandra makes a lot of schitt up), he’s right!
I understand what you are saying Daisy, but we as black folks already know the justice system is not going to be fair, so that is why we should do our best to stay out of trouble. and i am tired of black folks using the excuse of all they know if the ghetto and what goes on there. all of the television these kids watch these days they know there are better things out there for us. hell they can take the bus a few streets over and see people living better.
@Isc my mama always says de segreation was the end for black folks..lol
Black people ALSO need to stop making excuses for the phuck sh*t they do as well! First & foremost, I need black men to stop thinking it is OK to rob for what you want!
Daisy >>>>>I2I<<<<<<
So tired of certain people acting as if WE WANT TO LIVE LIKE THIS!!!!
Who the hell wants to live in proverty? Who wants to be a single parent? Who wants to make less than the man sitting next to you doing the same bc of ur skin color? Who wants to live on welfare… (that’s a whole nother story. Bc that shyt is designed to keep you on it.)
No we can’t out right blame anyone but there are factors that play into the game. & I for one will not sit around and act as if “da man” is not responsible for the destruction of the black community.
F’ing yt ppl still getting away with murder! A drunken driver killed a ped but bc he had money and the right skin color he didn’t even do a week in jail.
This post got me writing paragraphs. Sorry.
Pat Buchanon and all his lynching buddies are responsible
-they taught us how to kill
-they rippd the black man from the home and sold his children
-they are the reason some black girls look at themselves as see ugly and wish to be white.
-I could go on and on. My point being all of the issues we face today can be traced back to what happened to our great grandparents on down.
I also hold the media, BEYONCE, JAYZ, and anyother influential IDIOT who thinks it’s okay to promote drugs, more sex and more violence.
Hello All, Can I add to this list:
White folks can not blame black folks for the media looking the other way when it comes to all these negative stats that white folks also share with us!
White folks CAN be blamed for the 400+ years of slavery PLUS the 100+ years of Jim Crow that followed.
White folks can be blamed for the their hate and bigotry towards us for the past 400+ year, which has been the underlying problem all along.
White folks can not blame us for being born black in America because it was God’s choice.
BUT black folks can be blamed for loving sex. How did Richard Pryor, God rest his soul, put it over 40 yrs ago:
There will NEVER be a shortage of ni@@ers ’cause ni@@ers are fuching. I’m just saying…………….peace.
“IM FROM THE MURDER CAPITAL, WHERE WE MURDER FOR CAPITAL”
WHAT AN IDIOT. nOW SAY THAT TO YOURSELF 100 TIMES A DAY AND SEE WHERE IT LEADS YOU.
Sandra, just a little news flash “YOU ARE BLACK”. Mr. Buchanan and who ever said find trash on him they already did several yrs ago when he tried to run for President. He’s a defunct minister who had several affairs. Auntie, why not turn on comments where you talk about my President. Mr. President Obama?
Hey PAhair (waving) nice to c u join us…
If I say something, I know some panties are going to get in a bunch, so imma say it anyways.
Black people need to stop making these GD excuses. If you want ot talk about unequal playing fields, lets talk about immigrants who come here and make it with really unequal playing fields, often having language barriers and cultural misconceptions at play against them.
Asians, Caribbeans, South Americans and Africans come here, often times barely speaking english or with extremely accented English and in 20 years, not only have they put their children through school, succeeded in their individual career fields, completed high levels of education and own properties/businesses, they’ve done it while also supporting their families back home. Often time immigrant neighborhoods are the same poor neighborhoods with limited resources that “african americans” grow up in, but they manage to pull themselves out and succeed. So the cop out about unequal playing field is becoming less and less valid.
KaraZ I agree to a certain extent cuz when the immigrants come over they get tax breaks for 10 yrs get to go to school cheap or free sometimes depending on the circimstances and unfortunately they do something that black people have a problem doing. THEY HELP EACH OTHER, you can find 10-20 ppl living together and supporting each other and when they come up they pull the rest with them.
Buchananon also want to close the borders, unfortunately his wishes didn’t come true, we now have Sandra in America
Whoa wasn’t going to respond but after watching that video I have to put my two sense into the discussion. First of all that wasn’t even a fair dialogue on race because Dr. Eric Dyson kept have technical difficulties. If they were going to do something like that, they should have had both guys in the same room.
With that being said Dr. Eric Dyson agreed with Pat and said these are things that Rev. Jesse Jackson have been addressing for the past 40 years. And honestly if you read any book by any Black academic and talk to anyone with some sense they will acknowledge that Blacks have to take responsibility for their actions.
This who premise is so frustrating because I’ve had this conversation with my husband’s grandfather whose is a racist though he won’t admit it and there is truth in what they say. The problem is that everything is connected in this world.
The education system and its curriculum is not conducive to establishing a working relationship and retaining students. Why is this? Because the problems that African American students face are 50 times worse than their white counterparts in the suburbs. Therefore you can not have an education system that is the same for everyone because minorities have extraordinary problems. So if Blacks don’t get a proper education they drop out and they turn to the streets and they either get arrested, have babies, sell drugs, get killed or all of the above. Then we are left with mothers who either have more babies to get welfare, work but never see their kids and let tv and the streets raise the, or mothers who give them up to the system that doesn’t know what to do with them either.
Are all of these problems the white man’s fault? No but we must remember that History can not be erased from present dialogue about any group of people/nation. When white people first talked about basing slavery on racism (which previously had not been done before) they also talk about the future and decided to pit one group against the other so that many years from now are mentality would still reflect the slave mentality. Guess what, whoever that white man was that came up with that was a freaking genius cause it worked.
The fact is that we as a group of people didn’t start out on an even footing and then when we became “equal” we still weren’t due to segregation. Most white people come from well to do or middle class backgrounds, most Blacks do not yet there are a large percentage of us that do make it. But what do we do when we get put on? We go spending our money on the latest new shist and drive the hottest car and forget about our background and going back to help the community. We have become so assimilated into the white culture that we have forgot about what kept us united during the times when we were persecuted and killed.
Yes we have to keep in mind that slavery did happen and racism still exist but we shouldn’t let that be an impediment. The same amount of outrage we have towards a Black man being killed by white men is the same type of outrage we need to have at a Black man killing a Black man. I don’t care what anyone says the RAP MUSIC AND MUSIC WHERE WE TALK ABOUT OUR WOMEN BEING HOES AND BITCHES IS AFFECTING OUR COMMUNITY BECAUSE THIS MUSIC IS RAISING OUR KIDS. AND WHO CONTROLS THAT MUSIC? WHO CONTROLS DARN NEAR EVERYTHING? WE NEED TO THINK ABOUT THAT SHIT. THERE ARE A LOT OF UNDERHANDED BEHIND THE SCENES STUFF THAT GOES ON THAT PERPETUATES BRINGING US DOWN THE QUESTION IS DO WE CONTINUE TO FALL FOR IT AS A PEOPLE? DO WE CONTINUE TO LIVE THE WHITE MAN’S DREAM WITHOUT HELPING OUT THOSE WHO ARE LESS FORTUNATE.
SOMEONE SAID THAT THE WORSE THING THAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO US WAS SEGREGATION AND I SAY THE WORST THING THAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO ANY OPPRESSED PEOPLE WAS TO BECOME SELF ASSIMILATED INTO A CULTURE DESIGNED TO BE AGAINST YOU AND TO KEEP YOU DOWN.
That’s my whole take on the matter…
Eyes WIDE OPEN (o)-(o) @ the end of Naima’s post. Now you do know that Sandra will be reading these comments later… as in C U later….
IMO it all comes down to 2 things…INDIVIDUAL choices, and COMMUNITY responsibility. What happened to those old sayings like EACH ONE TEACH ONE…and WHEN YOU KNOW BETTER YOU DO BETTER????? I just had this discussion the other day with my BF, it was actually about the Obama cartoon (the infamous one). He was all up in arms about it and my opinion on it was that we have bigger fish to fry. Nobody is forcing these 17 year old girls to have babies out of wedlock. Nobody is forcing them to then have more babies to get more welfare. Nobody is forcing our young men to sell drugs. Nobody is forcing us not to parent our children. I am not in denial about our past and the injustices and atrocities that have been commited against us, but why do we have to continue to perpetuate the cylce by abusing each other?
luvly you are wrong. I’ll use myself as an example.
I am an immigrant, my mom didn’t get any tax breaks when she was raising us, and you don’t qualify for free nothing unless you’re a US citizen (or certain protected refugees) so please come again. She was ostracized from our immigrant community because she left her husband, who gave her no financial, emotional or physical support. (Divorce still carries a huge stigma for most Africans). She put herself through school, while working 2 full-time jobs and raising 4 kids. We received no government assistance due to our citizenship status; the only break she got was when she filed taxes, which is the same break any other single mother of 4 gets. My siblings and I were high achievers in HS, and all got at least partial merit scholarships for college, and have gone on to get 9 degrees between the 4 of us (I am the underachiever with only my Bachelor’s but I’m starting my MBA program this year, so mommy will get 10 degrees after all). My mom’s story is not a unique one in the immigrant communities, and not all immigrants help each other out. Lord knows Nigerians surely don’t. One thing that I know is common with immigrants is that we know that SUCCESS is our ONLY option.
So not only were we living in the hoods of racist ass Boston, we are black, low-income, growing up in a single parent home, as immigrants, we also had funny accents and “unusual” names to boot.
@ kcicero
I agree wholeheartedly with your comments
and @ karaz your last post makes me wanna stand up and shout and get my praise on
It does something to me to hear about those who have overcome great obstacles despite racism, prejudice, and economic status-I also taught that education was the only way to succeed under such strenous circumstances.
The problem is you have good, hard working, blacks-who are trying to succeed who sometimes are victims of racism but all in all are trying to live right
and on the other hand-you got niccas, the ones who don’t wan’t to live right and don’t give a damn about their neighbor, old folks, children, or women-and also don’t have a problem with robbing good folks because their too damn lazy to work hard for their own.
They don’t raise their children, run amuck, break the law, and disgrace our communities-what can be done about them???????
To be honest I’m sick of sorry azz people, who don’t work, and always got an excuse-will sit on their azz all day and watch tv, making babies, collecting a welfare check and will watch you leave for work and be in the same spot when you return home.
If your going to get assistance at least use it to better yourself-dammit
Sandra, I’ve figured you out some more today: You are not a black american, rather a black brit (right?). Anyhow, you remind me of the many africans I encounter in corporate america. They have a lot of solutions for the black race too, but it’s wrapped up in apathy and disdain.
I can’t live my life trying to please africans, non domestic blacks, or even the domestic ones!
All I know is I was cracking up at that guy being deported back to Nigeria on that Homeland Security special on ABC last night! (and I know it wasn’t right either.)
OK Karaz now ask an Arab how they bought the store on the corner or a legal mexican how they started their business.Tax breaks and low interest loans. I’m sorry your family did not benefit but most do and good luck on your degree and congrats to you family for being high acheivers.
Sandra you know Dr.Eric Michael Dyson also agrees with that statement but he also is not going to let the violence that white people perpetuated against Blacks be excused because it does still have a an effect both physical and mental on our community.
Karaz I applaud you and your family for what reaching for and achieving high aspirations! As someone from the projects in North Philly who is only the second person out of three generations to graduate from college and the only person currently trying to get their Master’s I know how hard it is to struggle and to finally reach a goal. KEEP DOING WHAT YOU DO AND DON’T FORGET ABOUT BRINGING OTHERS UP WITH YOU(cause all to many of us forget to do that)
@Luvly Your comments are just not true. Many immigrants that come over to America have some sort of business and/or money back home to begin with AND ARE already educated. Do you think someone who can hardly speak english and is uneducated is going to come over here and hill out an application and form for grants and tax breaks? Hello we Blacks can’t even do that so I highly doubt that most immigrants are…
Sandra, I highly recommend you to read “Powernomics” by Dr. Claude Anderson. If you provide your P.O. Box No. I’ll buy you a copy myself. If you THINK Pat Buchanon just broke it down (which btw is your usual ludicrous opinion) then you will be well enlightened by Dr. Anderson’s words of truth and knowledge. If you are really serious about your newfound political commentary, you really should tighten up your knowledge and stop being spoon fed by the backwards and shortsighted sentiments shared by the likes of Fox News and Rush Limbaugh.
luvly you make it seem as though all immigrants get some free money when their planes arrive in the country. It’s a falsehood and if that’s what you’ve been telling yourself, please stop lying to yourself. They’re just as many (actually way more) programs and tax breaks available to Americans and this includes black americans. The few programs made available to immigrants have twice as many hoops to jump through to qualify for the ” free money” than an American would, there is work involved, and many immigrants are willing to do it.
Most immigrants do not benefit from anything except their hard work, sweat, sacrifices and determination. If by Arabs you also mean Indians/SE Asians who own just about every gas station, they benefit from community collaboration more than a few thousand dollar tax break. If by Mexicans running all those cleaning and landscaping businesses, they too also benefit from community collaboration.
@intown, what did he do to get deported? I was flipping, missed the show

Could not agree with you more. We all have to take personal responsibility for ourselves, our families and our communities. Black people (myself included) used to know better and do better, somewhere along the way we lost our damn minds, chasing material things and temporary pleasures perhaps, at the detriment of ourselves and our futures.
You know what keeps the black race down.. People trying to Always lump us all in the same catergory.
While some may use yt holding us back as an excuse to not succeed there are lots, & lots of us who don’t. Don’t lump me in that f’ing category bc I bust my azz everyday like my yt co workers just trying to get through the day to day.
@ KC & intown & I’m a lover (wrote down book to purchase) great comments.
@kcicero, you baby is too adorable!
I hate to say it, but most Nigerians in the diaspora wouldn’t applaud us. They wouldn’t see my family as some sort of amazing success story, we did what was expected of us and is the norm in our community. Now if we all went to Ivy Leagues, maybe then we would get some sort of kudos.
Now about the talented 10th, I wish more people would subscribe to this theory; I think many people have shown us (Jewish, Koreans & Persians) that this is a proven way for success for any group.
Karaz, he was originally pinched for drugs, but then his sentence got ended early, but ICE (immigration) had orders to deport him from LA. It was only that feeling I have in my stomach from my african/caribbean/black brit, etc. brethren looking down their nose at me that made me smile. Again, I know it wasn’t right.
Also, you said you are a banking analyst, for another bank, a priv investment firm, a rating agency? (you mentioned in another post)
Thank you Iscream!
And after 50+ post nothing has changed for BLACK FOLKS..
Rhetoric does nothing.
Aw thanks Karaz
sigh … is all im goin to say …
Umm I would laugh at him too, why not? You didn’t force him to sell the drugs, that’s exactly what his dumb ass deserves.
I was a banking analyst for a commercial bank until those bastids laid me off. I saw it coming though, I guess it was my job to, hehehehe.
Now I’m an employment seeker. I don’t want to eat through my money that’s meant for grad school expenses.
Raise your children that’s all I’m going to say, stop blaming the white man.
Who wouldn’t agree with that statement. Its undeniable that we need to get our community under control b.c they could careless!!!! They love for us to prosper in negativity. My lord look who’s REALLY in charge of Hip Hop. Yes rappers can say what they want but its the Corporations in charge of these Labels that pick and choose which artist to fund and they seem to pick the negative (pick one) over the Commons/Talib Kweli’s any day!!!!
And lets not get to hyped over Buchanan making a point out of the 99.9% of the racist ish that comes out of his mouth.
If our community got underwraps (which hopefully we will) then who would he have to target…….Mexicans watch your back Buchanan will be after yall next!!!
@Karaz umm you must not know that those immigrants (sp) come over here and get LOANS ASAP w/o any credit (fact) and they will live 10-20 in a house and stack their money. Their kids in TX can go to college for FREE while the black student in the same high school cant even get fin. aid. So I am not buying it at all. The playing field is NOT even for us point blank period. That does NOT mean we still dont need to do what we have to do as a people to be successfull I am still going to call a spade a spade. I hate when ppl make that argument as if to say black are lazy and dont want to own their own businesses. Those same mexicans/asians you are referring to come over and run the handful of blacks out of business anyway in this day and age. Jorge and Jesus will always be cheaper than Keshawn and Reggie by under bidding. And let me be clear I am NOT mad at the mexicans/asians for making $$ at all. Do you!
*steps off soapbox**
I’m not African but I completely disagree with that statements. Black teens are lazy and people can say what they what (whether it is their fault or not) our teenagers are not motivated to get a good education. As I stated before part of it is due to the fact that the education system is not conducive to teaching African American or “minority” I hate that word students. The other part is our moral standards in the community and what/who we are allowing to raise our children.
At the end of the day the point is that Africans/immigrants come to American with a willingness to work. Many (not all) of Black Americans don’t do that. We don’t teach our kids to get an education/ to aspire to be educators/doctors and not rappers. We don’t teach our kids manners. We do give them whatever the hell they want and even allow them to believe that a fat arse white man comes down a chimney and gifts them with presents on a day that should be reserved for the worship of Jesus (who after all the holiday is suppose to be about). There is nothing wrong with Christmas but lets keep it real, allowing our kids to get whatever they want and especially during this time and telling them someone else is responsible for it only further teaches them to be unappreciative. (Honestly hope I don’t offend anyone).
I digress Daisy don’t blame Africans for having the work ethic we fail to display! Most of our kids are not even in 12th grade by the time college applications/financial aid applications are submitted. and I’m a Black student and got financial aid just fine and I know plenty of others who did as well.
At the end of the day I’m not going to support a Black store if the service is horrible and I’ve actually been to Black owned businesses. And I tell you right now I wouldn’t encourage for anyone to go to them. Unprofessional, Unclean, and Undermanaged is how I would describe most of our businesses. Instead of roaches being confined to outside of the customer’s naked eye they were crawling along the floors in plain view. The black businesses need to step their game up.
Again WE NEED TO STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR WHY WE CAN’T DO SOMETHING AND START DOING.
kcicero Says:

_______________________________________________________
That is such a broad statement. This is what I was talking about when I said people lumping all blacks in the same category. Maybe the black teens you have come across are lazy and not motivated. There are black teens who want a college education, who want to be successful. If there wasn’t any we would not have schools like Howard, Georgetown and ect of black colleges that have 1,000’s of students fill their classromms every year.
@Luvly
*******************
Girl I got your back on this one. Obviously no one listened to MICHAEL BAISDEN SHOW yesterday. Koreans come here day one and get a business loan for WHAT a beauty supply store. They own 70 % of all beauty supply store in AMERICA. Immigrants do get perks and checks when they come here HONEY. Like it or not. If shorty mom didnt get anything maybe she wasnt looking.
Now a black person here all their life applies for a business loan for a beauty supply store and they are turned down as soon as they sit down with the loan officer. WHITE PEOPLE GET RICh because they know the secrets we dont. CREDIT DERIVIATES tell me you knew you could get UBER RICH buying notes with no money down. WHO KNEW? THE WHITES!!!!!!!!!!1
AS for the AFRICANS that dont like us who cares. These are the same IDIOTS today who kill each other over HOW LONG some one’s nose is or what shade of black a person is. Need I say ROWANDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Africans need to get there sh&% together before they talk about us. We anit letting no white man say your sister is to dark kill her.
iscream.. How is Kcicero lumping all black people in the same category? She is referring to the teenagers that aren’t doing sh*t with themselves and there are a WHOLE LOT!!! The problem with a lot of people is that they interpet what people are saing in the way that suites them best. Black people in specific need to accept the fact that the are responsible for their OWN actions!
Every person CHOOSES where they live and who they interact with so I don’t understand why people are still feeling sorry for people living in places where there are no opportunites?? No opportunity= Get the h*ll on!
Black people can be just as ignorant as White people!
I am going to close by saying, this sh*t is NOT going to change and black people need to get with it! Black people kill each other DAILY!!!! Remember that!!!
Phucktards!!!
Thank you NYCUTIE that is exactly my sentiments about that statement. I went to college I made it but there are plenty of Black teens (more than the majority who do not) Check your statistics Iscream while these schools may exist break down the students by ethnicity and you will see that most of the Blacks that are in college are of Caribbean or African Descent. I just read an article about that the other day. Why is that? Because these 1st and 2nd generation children are motivated they don’t let things that happen to them get them down. Their parents are telling them that without an education it’s going to be hard for you to make it and you know what they listen.
You can take it or leave it what I’ve said, you and I both know that it’s not all Blacks but the majority of our teenagers fit that description. You don’t believe me? Then why don’t you catch a flight over to Philadelphia and have a walk around.
Kcicero, A lot of black people don’t like to hear the truth about their people. It is easier to place blame than to accept responsibility! Sad!! Wish them luck and I hope the don’t teach their kids that phuckery!
